Earthquake-rocked Haiti ‘cursed’ by a pact with devil: Pat Robertson

Commenting on the devastating quake in Haiti, evangelist Pat Robertson on his Christian Broadcasting Network asked whether the destruction were a “blessing in disguise” that may lead to rebuilding.

He also seemed to blame the nation’s pervasive poverty — it’s the poorest in the western hemisphere — on a deal with the devil they made to get out of French rule, saying Haitians have been “cursed” since then, while the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola, hosts resorts.

First I want to say that my heart goes out to all of them. I am truly sorry to see that they are going thru the disaster they in. I have prayed that God have mercy on them and provide for their basic needs, shelter, safety, water, love, kindness, and empathy.

As for Pat, timing is everything. You should have been more empathetic in your comments.

Haiti’s belief system of VooDoo, has been in their history forever and it’s tradition for them. I pray that God would forgive them for they “know not what they do”. That phrase is also for us, as we have days where we are not 100% faithful either.

Why in the year 2010, are we still fighting each ofther, in the name of {your god}, and killing each other. The world has become so advanced with science, knowledge, and understanding, but yet, we still live and act like cavemen.

It bothers me to see and hear people complain about Haiti not getting the help they need. I see and hear everyone stepping up to offer their support in the ways that they can with food, money, equipment, people, and other stuff. Doesn’t it seem that “Entitlement” always seems to cloud our vision and judgement?

Sept 11, US is terrorized with a Plane thru our buildings by the Taliban. There were more than American’s in that building. Why did they do it? Because America is an empire and they dont like us. Other’s want to bring down the so-called “Paper Tiger”. If America is so bad then why is everyone escaping their country to flee here?

Review this to see the history of Terrorism in the USA.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_in_the_United_States

The bottom line is that the world will always have one side against each other, since we can’t get along. It happens even in the smallest form, our families.

I’d like to buy the world a coke!

I don’t think that this is the time for Pat Robertson to say these how come he didn’t go out in the highways and byways and preach the word to them before this happen. I can truly tell you stories what I heard from Haitians myself, they themselves can tell you some voodoo stories that will make you tremble. You have to be really strong in God to survive them. Hear me dear heart I tip my hat off to them for their courage and bravery for freedom but I heard 1 fellow said that his mom was a christian and his father was a voodooist and his mom had to run from his dad. If a stranger come and pick a fruit from the garden he would stand on 1 foot right there and wait until his dad reach home. One Haitian man came and told my grandfather that he was sent all the way from Haiti to that island to destroy him but the Haitian said because my granddad is strong in God he couldn’t touch him. Whether you like it or not God is stronger than that obeah (voodoo). Pray for the dark souls of the people (not only haitians) and hope for a brighter future for them.

Hypocrites yes-I, you seem to be one that doh like books. Let us suppose haitians so evil like you say, I think endless dominicans would be ‘spoilt’ rotten, and walking tootooni in Roseau, because some dominicans taking advantage of them haitians exploiting them, making them work like donkey for qwas money…if you looking for obeah look no further than guada, is there that is ‘garday’ capital of the caribbean….voodoo is the remnants of several african religions mixed together, is true it is a form of paganism according to those who profess christianity, but haiti not de only place with pagan religion. A lot of the voodoo practices originate from West african tribes….and it got mixed up along the way with roman catholicism from them slave masters….

all where you pass have good and evil, even in ‘God fearing ‘ Blessed Dominica, people still spreading jaze infront their step, nailing horseshoe on their house, reversing to enter their front door after 12 midnight and putting all kind of mixture for their children to pass common entrance. You go in certain shops and they tell you u cannot buy salt after 6pm….that still happening in the country side…shopkeeper storing all kind of odd things in de money box, for de money to ‘make little’. Man unlike us them haitians preserve a lot of their african heritage because they had less time under slavery….

Doh give haiti all that bad press, those young and ole soucouyant and obeah man we have in Dominica there I sure their birth certificate saying ‘Place of birth: Commonwealth of Dominica’, and is not Haiti they go to take their training….

Allu too double standard. Everywhere you go people talking about Haiti and their obeah but today allu want to come and say is lie. Allu never find it strange that Haiti and the Dominican Republic sharing the same island and by all means every time a disaster pass is Haiti that getting it. WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!! The fact that 80 percent of the population is Christian doesn’t change anything. The majority of Haitians are evil people and that’s just the way it is. Google their history with obeah and you will see for yourself. By the way while allu there beating allu self and defending them they there bursting gunshots last night. ALLU TOO HYPOCRITE!

For all the ignorant supporters of Pat (Biggot) Robertson, i think you all are displaying how foolish you all are. Haiti is poor because the white French thought it possible to make the black poor haitian pay them for keeping them in slavery and then freeing them. So haiti had to pay france for its independence, which if i am not mistaken are still paying for today.

Ever wonder why so much rich countries can stand by and see such poverty and do nothing? Its because there is no difference between the white man from france or the whiteman from russia, or that from england. they control the worlds wealth and that is the bond between them.

Stop making religion and its promoted fear keep you all enslaved mentally..

I’ll agree with you that we do not know what will happen after death, but while you are walking on earth a good deed is a good deed. I will admit that i haven’t practiced VooDoo, but i have seen a few documentaries on the religious practice, and it isn’t something YOU would welcome.

A small point – the vast majority of Haitians are Roman Catholics and most of the rest are Protestants. Many also have some Voudou belief – leave the issues there to them, their churches and God. They regard themselves as Christians. Not devil-worshippers!

I always say: its not what you say, its how you say it and when you say it.

Pat Robertson isn’t making an incorrect statement, nor is he basing his opinion on rumors.

I will agree that this isn’t the most appropriate time, but if he had said this a week ago, most of you WOULD agree with him wholeheartedly.

I think, in addition to feeling sympathetic for the Haitians, we should be angry that more hasn’t been done to get this People on a more positive track.

Just think, when Dominicans emigrate they want to go to places like the US, Canada, or the UK. Haitians will take anywhere as long as it isn’t Haiti. You must ask why these people are so desperate, and why is it that our pals at the UN just sit back and watch.

    January 14, 2010

FSGE have you ever practiced Voodoo? who are you to refer to voodoo as evil? what makes christianity all good and voodoo all bad? do you know that before the european introduced christianity to us ( to keep us enslaved to thier preachers like Pat) the africans practiced voodoo as their religion.

Just for info voodoo is the belief that ancestral spirits can protect them from evil, just like the spirit of Jesus can protect you.

We must never criticise any religion whatsoever because non of us alive on this earth knows what happens after death not one of us irrespective of what book you believe in be it the bible, the quoran, the holy book of krishna or any book written to advice us how to live so upon death we will recieve salvation- none of us know with certainty what the heck goes on until we die, and when we do communicating to those alive is not possible.

Conclusion – there is no true religion they arte all based on faith i.e. believing in something we have not seen. We can only hope we were correct when we die!!!!!

Alot of religious clerics is aware of that so they say let me do and don’t do!!!!! lol lol

Seaman, the pentecostal comment was uncalled for, I am sure not every pentecostal shares the view of Pat Robertson. I think we need to have an understanding of haitian history, perhaps then we may come to understand a few things about our region and our Past. Haiti used to be a prosperous colony and prize possession of france (St Domingue), and they sought their independence in the late 17th century with Toussaint L’ouverture as their visionary and educated leader. Had Toussaint not been tricked by the french under the guise of diplomacy I suspect that haitian history may have been completely different.

Any one who has an interest in finding out why Haiti is afflicted by so much poverty and violence should do some research, and will come to realise that the french made this country pay dearly for their independence, the new government had to pay large sums to french slave holders to purchase their freedom which bankrupted their treasury. Furthermore the french had created a soceity with deep social division during their rule. I am of the belief that the current situation in haiti is as result of the steep reparations they had to make to french plantocracy inorder to have their independence recognised and the subsequent years of bad governance and poor agricultural and development practices, and the deepening social and economic divide between the rich and the poor.

we should all empathise with haiti and offer help, as without the haitian revolution slavery may have lasted longer, for it is this great revolution that made many European colonizers become uneasy with slavery.

Now take a look around the region and one will see that the countries that held close allegiance and intimacy with their colonial masters are more prosperous, just look at our next door FRENCH neighbours, barbados, st kitts, these countries were prized colonies because of their capacity for sugar production. This is why we as dominicans didn’t inherit much from our British Colonial Powers, we simply didnt have potential as a sugar producing country, so no large amount of investment was made into our infrastructure. The french had us they gave us away along with grenada as part of the treaty of paris.

People, the haitian people are suffering because of their strong stance against slavery and colonization. let us stand in solidarity with them and offer our unwavering support. We owe them that much. I aso feel the French government should certainly step foward and offer unprecedented assistance to Haiti, THEY OWE THEM THAT MUCH!

    January 14, 2010

its funny people commenting here talk as if Haitians are saints. their history is one filled with blood, violence, dictatorships, jealousy and envy. they have nothing to be proud of for attaining early independence. infact if they had remained under the french they might have been one of the wealthiest nations in the caribbean, and their turmoils wouldn’t have been so bad (and i would love to hear someone deny that fact).

however they like/ and a proud of their voodoo and black magic and i totally agree that this is punishment for their evil deeds.

lets hope they move from this satanic religion and to Christianity. cuz no matter what amount of aid they may receive it will all be in vain if the Haitian mind set doesn’t change.

Pat Robertson statement doesn’t surprise me one bit. Whatever HAITI has done this is not the time for statements like these. As a so call preacher he should be calling on God to have mercy on those people seeing the situation they facing at this moment. This man has no heart. He better becareful with his words, today is for Haiti no one knows who tomorrow will be. But again just look at mister associates Rush Linbaugh, Hanity on fox news. Jerry Farwell and many more. It’s a sign he didn’t say the earthquake should kill them all, just like how his good decease friend Jerry Farwell had made the statement when president Bush had got into Iraq he should kill them all in the name of the Lord. These fellows are SICK. God is going to bring a change to Haiti, my brothers and sisters hold on tomorrow will bring you a better day. God is still alive and he’s watching over you.

GO TO HELL!!!!! Pat Robertson, and the quicker you do so, the better – As people of faith, a time like this demands compassion, love, prayers and any support we can give our brothers and sisters in Haiti. You say you a christian? You’re not a christian and you’re a racist. Haiti was the first country in the western hemisphere to overthrow slavery, and for that you say Haitians (hint hint: black people) made a pact with the devil? GO TO HELL and I hope you die miserably.

  37. Oh OH!!!
    January 14, 2010

    @ God bless haiti

what research should we do? Haiti never signed no pact with no devil period!!! just so Christopher Columbus said he discovered the western hemisphere, and the caribs were war-like and fierce and used to eat the arawaks, now the same columbus killed off all the peace loving arawaks why?

Because Haiti could resist all these colonizers they went on with a dirty real dirty rumour to instill fear in us that haiti is an evil country, tell me where is more evil than the US of A itself!!! Think of all the evil they are doing, tell this idiot to pray for all the evil that is taking place in his own backyard – by the way did i read that he owns CBS? is that true? The bible said the meek shall inherit the earth and that it is easier for a camel to enter into the kingdom of god than for a richman- i guess that don’t apply to him!! His time will come we have no research to do so tell him and all his disciples to go to Hell!!!

He must have been there when haiti signed pact with the devil for their liberation, better yet it must have been with him they signed these pacts so he would know.

Why does he not read about the history of Haiti. A lot of the problems that Haiti is facing is because they dared to be free. They were the first to win their freedom from slavery and generations have been paying a very dear price for this freedom ever since.

I am more disturbed by the comments of ‘Not Surprised’ above than that of Pat Robertson, since anyone with any level of common sense who have been following these white racists evangelists who rants and raves on television ‘in the name of God’ but who are really a bunch of thieves robbing and stealing from poor people in desperate need for ‘afterlife insurance’ knows that these people care very little about humanity and are in fact the devil’s true servants here on earth. I amazes me that so-called born again christians here in Dominica (people of African descent) can so shamelessly defend such ridiclously offensive and historically inaccurate statements as expressed by Pat ‘Bigot’ Robertson. We really need to examine ourselves and our faiths and not be led like aimless sheeps without thinking rationally. I believe that government should pass a law here in Dominica to ban cable companies such as Marpin and Sat telecoms from airing networks such as FOX News and CBN since these networks are clearly run by racists ‘bigots’ who would very much like to see the extinction of the black race.

This man is dis-speakable!!!! As a “Christian” why don’t he focus on sending up a pray for the nation. I am a Christian but people like him really get me UPSET. Do they really know the history of Haiti?? Haiti was one of the 1st nations to abolish slavery and the 1st independent black nation. Their problems of poverty stems from the fact that for centuries their lands served as the main producer of sugar, coffee etc. This resulted in their land losing all the nutrients and becoming barren, not like the healthy and fertile soil tremendous amount of Haiti. Haiti will rise from this and maybe thats just the attentions its needs for the situation in the nation, that has been prevalent for the past over 100 years.
