I’m reading with great interest all the congrats and big-ups to Karessah et al. But I’m kind of puzzled to read all that negativity about De BOBB. I wish some-one would explain exactly WHAT that young man has done wrong to generate so much hostility and negativity. I don’t get it.

If you have to put personal feelings aside, this young man has the best voice in the Calypso competition. As far as I understand it, CLARITY and RENDITION earns the top marks. And let’s face it, which one of you can complain that you didn’t understand one word DE BOBB was saying?? This guy enunciates every word in every line.

If you are saying that he’s full of himself, I think that’s really unfair, if you don’t KNOW the young man on a personal level. All true artists have a bit of a “prima donna” thing about them. It’s what make them strive for excellence.

I see Dice as being full of himself too, but then again in the scheme of things, perhaps we Dominicans can only identify and align ourselves with “mal kassay”.

Personally I thought Bobb’s second song, although it was a “party song” as the second round is supposed to be, I felt it was a bit lacking.

But still, this young man works very hard to hone his craft, so why not congratulate him on his achievements? Stop trying to break him down, appreciate him for who he is.

A big thank you Sunshinegual! I know D/A is small and that someone would reply. I know Lousia is gone, but she is sometimes in my family conversation, in our thoughts for many reasons. God bless her son, Karessah. That early morning phone call was worth it. We still care for her and we are happy that the good Lord is looking over her son. She looked after us for mum. Lousia was like my mum’s daughter. Congratulations Karessah from your Aunty. Thanksssssssssssssss again for your help, Sunshinegual!

Why don’t the contestants of calypso competitions sing? apart from the women, the men seem to think that singing is irrelevant. Karessa has good stage antics and captures much of the calypso spirit; his topics are also very interesting, but the art form is about delivery of song. Calypsonians, please take a cue from Observer and learn how to sing. I am not inplying that Observer is a good singer, but I remember when he could not sing at all; he took music lessons to better his presentation.

Great job everyone, congrats to Karessa and all the other in the top four, i see so many people saying to tasha to hold strong and that she will get hers but you all are too bad mind and biased people like checker who has been in this for years why not tell him he will get his time, its her first year and she placed, Justice was a great written song but it was a song that sounded liek tarina last year, also sounded like a song on observer, Lady Star you should be focused and know your time will come i heard you said your 6th year in the calypso and 3rd year in finals, you have never placed but yours will come.

Tarina came and placed all her years except when she made her big mistake, she was all in states singing representing dominica, sugar S made it to the finals once but she too was in states representing dom, inica, tasha will be representing dominica too, you are one of the few calypsoninans who still sing calypso who remind me and alot of poeple of the great singing sandra but have you ever travelled to represent dominica even in the region NO but people want to tell tasha to hold strong and she will get hers,

Tarina came and left, Tasha is here now lets hope she is geniune and stays we have seen lady star for 6 years and her attitude has not changed still down to earth if she decided she goo dwith Calypso i would not blame her cause dominicans pull upo who they want and we have let her downa nd left her down.

For years I have been saying Karresh is the best because of literature. He has humor and wit and present his self with so much class. It like the old time calypso. Man I am so proud of you. Alas, our judges are judging CALYPSO and not CALYPSO MIXED WITH OTHER FORM OF THE ART

What a King indeed! Great performance by every calypsonian! How proud I was just looking and hearing all the talented individuals. I must commend the judges because that was definitely a tough show to judge.

Tasha P you were my girl from the time I heard your song on the radio. You did an excellent job for your first time. I saw you were a bit dissapointed at getting second runner up, but that was your deserving position. That show was just that good. Don’t be dissapointed Tasha. You did an excellent job and the Dominican public gave you tremendous support. Just take that energy and increase it for next years show. Trust me ……………… Caressa and Dice mmmmmmmmmmm what a combination that will be. Girl those shoes are big to fill, so stretch your feet and come harder next year. I will be your biggest fan looking forward to big things from you.

To The Bobb……………what a great performance…… and that voice. Jeez! Dominicans we have talent eh. Caressa just out did anything anyone could have thought of. He was just untouchable. Soul Puss great job also. My congratulations to all who participated especially the top four.

A little suggestion.. Put Caressa last next time because he just wipe out the show in the second round. Those other calypsonians did exceptionally well, but after that kind of performance……………. nuff said. Caressa congrats once again. Well deserved.

You guys are saying Bobb didn’t deserve the crown because you don’t like him..

We all know bobb has his ways but give jack his jacket and jacqueline her lipstick…Bobb was the most consistent in both rounds…yet still ….

tht was the same reason he left calypso …

    its all good though …

I agree that Karessah was weak in the first round but he made up for that in the second round. The man was excellent, nothing and no one I saw in the second round cld touch Karessah’s performance. Tasha u my girl and I am soooooo proud of you, in my opinion you deserved first-runner up if not the crown itself. Congratulations to my good friend the “soul-puss” man! I’m I proud of you! I am happy the four of you made it. I wld transpose the positions a bit, but great show! One comment thou DCA, what the hell was that about 6 drink tickets for VIP. Congratulation to King Karessah and Soul Puss you both did a wonderful job and you made us all proud especially the people of MARIGOT we made history by having two calypsonians from the same village cpmpeting for the Monarch Crown what a night that was.
I was sadden that TASHA P didnt place second she was it for me and she will always be she did a great job her songs and from how DBS and Q95 commentators were discribing her stage performances she was right up there but TASHA P you will always be in our heart and dont allow negative vibes from any one stop your determination to be the first female Monarch, God brought you this far and remember he haven finished with you as yet keep working hard and the Crown will be yours one day. I am also hoping that one day the King , Soul Puss, Tasha P will performance for us in MARIGOT what a show that would be.

I said the three to be placed were Karessah, Tash P, Soul Puss and any one else could follow and you made it so be happy go out there and have a wonderful Canival season enjoy yourself to the fullest.

We in North A’ica knew you did a wonderful job congratulations and you made us women proud.

CONGRATULATIONS TO KARESSAH AND SOUL PUSS. YOU MADE US PROUD. SOUL PUSS WAS VERY GOOD. I THINK HE DESERVED TO BE PLACED EIETHER FIRST OR SECOND RUNNER UP. HE WAS CONSISTENT. KARESSAH HAD TO COME GOOD IN THE SECOND RUN TO RETAIN HIS CROWN AND THAT HE DID. NO ONE BEAT HIM IN THE SECOND RUN. REMEMBER IT TAKES TWO SONGS TO WIN THE CROWN. MARIGOT AND THE NORTH EAST ARE VERY PROUD OF THEM. WE HAVE TWO KINGS THIS TIME AROUND. HAVE A PEACEFUL CARNIVAL. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE VARIOUS COMPETITION. YOU ALL ARE WINNERS. AH FUH AH WEE::::::

    February 14, 2010

WoW! !! Wow What a show!!! You know, before last night’s competition I just didn’t feel this year’s calypsos and in fact I contemplated not going to the finals, but boy am I glad I did!!. This was one of the best, most tightly fought, entertaining finals that we’ve seen in a long time. I must however add my two pence to the judging controversy which seems to occur very year. First of all I must admit that no one is perfect and everyone would be entitled to his/her own perspective when judging a show. I however believe that the calypso association should rethink its scoring method for the competion because it is clearly flawed. Let me first of all say that i have no problems with the placements last night if one has to base it strictly on performance and entertainment. Clearly the two individuals who more strongly brought out their songs on the night in my mind were the Caressa and the Bobb and as far as entertainment is concerned the Caressa was many moons ahead of the rest of the field. i paid 60 dollars to enter the show and i expected to be entertained and that made the show worth going to. however, if one really had to strictly follow the judging criteria which gave the vast amount of the points for lyrics and melody and only a small amount for presentation and rendition then I dare say that there were at least two or three other calypsonians (I wish not to call any names) who should have placed ahead of the Caressa and the Bobb because the Dog song, as clever and witty as it is, is not very strong lyrically (the song being one of my favourite calypsos for the year notwithstanding). I wish therefore to suggest that in the interest of fairness that the judging criteria be reviewed and maybe we could go ahead with the same for the first round of the competition, but the scores for presentation, tempo, rendition etc need to be increased for the second round and less emphasis should be placed on the lyrics. That will keep the show entertaining, while the people would have less reason to call the judges cheats since it is obvious judging from the show last night that the greater focus was placed on the presentation and rendition aspects of the competition. This would also prevent someone such as Daddy Chess who is one of the best up-tempo contributors to the competition from making such a drastic mistake that he did last night by singing two slow songs. The second round is clearly the ‘party, let go jacket bachanal’ round of the competition and all the caypsonians should be told that so that it could be reflected in their compositions. Anyway nuff said!! Big up guys for a great show. SUPER ENTERTAINMENT!! the Bull and Pawol were great MCs. The best in the Caribbean. Keep it up guys!!! Let’s keep on entertaining in our calypso shows before we allow it to slowly disappear like in TnT.

WOW.. was it Karessah or Sparrow I was listening to looking at last night? He has a bit of a look like sparrow, not much, just a little bit, but the voice, signing ability and stage personality is on par with Sparrow. You go boy, you are heading for the top and at a rate that ..hmm.. not even words can decribe. All the best schoolmate…

  42. Judge de Kaiso
    February 14, 2010

    Congrats Karessah

I am not one for negative comments but it saddens me to see how this show was judged. My biggest problem is with Bobb getting a place when his second song was clearly a Bouyon Song (a carbon copy of WCK Let’s Go Follow the Leader). Calypso is calypso and when these guys start to introduce songs that are 90% – 100% another form of music and call it Calypso we have a problem especially when our “learned” judges cannot even tell the differences. Shame. I have nothing personal against Bobb because I thought he won the 1st round convincingly.

This show is based on two rounds and there’s no way Karessah was even in the top three in the 1st round. Bobb, Tasha and Daddy Chess would have done it for me.

In the 2nd, Karessah, Tasha and Soul Puss were top three in my books.

In my humble opinion, I think the young lady deserved that crown. And I have a gut feeling she was punished for her last line in He’s a Boy…challenging the judges by saying ….

If you’re male and a judge and a woman cannot win Calypso, He’s a Boy!

I just loved that line. Anyways, the judges decision is final and we should all respect that, however we need to protect the genuineness of our Calypso. Congrats again to all, I know you all put your hearts into your performances. Have a peaceful Carnival.

DBS commentators must do a course in calypso. They do not know what is calypso. The best song on Haiti was by Karresah, yet they keep talking bull about soul poose song and Daddy Chess song on Haiti as better. People, its all about melody, arrangment, depth of lyrics. Soul Poose song on Haii was not a calypso and a gingle gingle. He used a Spoog beat and not calypso.

Congrates to the King you, by far the best calypsonian out there. One who is able to write for himself, That is the hall mark of a calypsonian.

I think it is tme they start letting the calypsoninans sing their both sngs at the semi finals. That will strenghten the quality of the show. Too many times they only have one song.

Congratulations to Karessah for winning the title two years in a row. He really put on a great performance at the show.

I truly thought some in justice was done in the judging; Tasha P should have gotten 1st place instead of The Bobb. I know them judges wouldn’t have let her win but at least they could have given her the 1st place position cause she deserved it although she had a spectacular winning performance at the show.

Congratulations Tasha P, you are truly great at singing and don’t let these biased judges kill your spirit & passion for singing. I want to urge you to just keep up your hard work & it will pay off soon doe fraid… You are truly a winner in my eyes. I Love You Girl!!!
