THE VALLEY, Anguilla, Feb 16 – Anguilla’s chief minister-elect Hubert Benjamin Hughes says the “economy” will be the first order of business for his new Anguilla United Movement (AUM) government following the February 15 general elections in this British Overseas Territory.

Hon. Hubert Hughes

Hughes told a radio reporter here shortly after was declared the winner in the Road South constituency that his government will “examine all the projects and see how we can get more going. It’s all about jobs, jobs, jobs……”

Anguilla’s longest serving politician said “we want to unite the people across this island. I know the coffers are empty. We want to work with all the other parties to build the country.”

Thank god for this victory. Its time that we see change in Anguilla. We have been exploited too much by the outgoing party. We all need one another at some point in our lives. With the help of God I pray that this new government is not going to mis use their power but use it in everyway to give glory unto our God Almighty who have given them this opportunity to lead his people.

congratulations and all the best. Its not an easy task.

The foreigner in Anguilla obviously wasn’t there the last time this …. was in power. This man and his party did more to ruin the reputation of Anguilla, discriminating against none black non Anguillians( Santa Domingans excepted- cheap labour see who will vote for him) probably than Victor Banks and co have done.
He starved the country of much needed skilled foreign workers- ie educators so that the children might get a decent education being taught by people who could speak proper English and write and who didnt think it was perfectly normal for girls to become mothers before finishing High school, or boys to have children with half the female population without living with/ marrying any of them
This is a man with extreme racist views who makes axa the laughing stock of the Caribbean.
Lets see how he and the …. who laughingly call them selves politicians here who have never had to raise money- they have it given to them and will not impose a tax regime on the population, preferring to live on handouts, whilst at the same time deriding the British and saying they want independence, but BTW we want more money from you
