Dominica’s cultural advisor says the country would profit from an establishment designated for the storage of carnival costumes.
Alwin Bully has been proposing the erection of what he calls a Carnival House or Carnival Museum on grounds that there’s no assigned area to display the costumes after the carnival activities.
“The problem is that after carnival, there is always a problem as to where those costumes are going to be stored and how they can be used to continue to promote Dominica’s carnival. Besides that …there’s always a problem as to where those costumes should be built,” Bully said, adding, some of the areas that were previously available are no longer on hand.
Bully has been emphasizing that a carnival museum will serve as a lucrative enterprise for Dominica and will end the problem of uncertainty regarding a place to build and subsequently store both the traditional and non-traditional costumes.
“A place to store the costumes afterward which could put them on display and therefore generate income through visitors of all types…looking at the costumes, seeing the work that was done over the years and having an understanding of what Dominica’s carnival is all about…It could be quite a very rewarding and lucrative enterprise, generating funds for the development of Carnival,” he said.
First of all, in order to put costumes on display in a museum should be built neatly and properly, the only costumes in my opinon which should be but on display is the Sensae (hope I spelt it right) I think evryone knows what I mean
We should first focus on adding a private wing to the PMH(Hospital) as we first had when the hospital was built, so that patients who are not in great pain should not have to be in the same ward as patients that are moaning and groaning ,it is not pleasant .I will never understand why they got rid of the private ward, I guess the government who was in power at the time who got rid of the priv.ward wing, because when they got ill could afford to fly to any of the neighbouring countries for medical care .
Good idea Mr. Bully. Having paid to visit the carnival museum in Martinique on a school exchange program, I often wondered why the carnival organizers in Dominica had not establish something similiar to attract revenue, which could be invested into the coordinating of carnival activities. I do hope that this idea materializes.
I suspect the idea is not original from….. it happens to reach the media better than the poorer of us.
about EC$8,000.00 Monthly advice. so we like it.
it was about time we got some body with brain in that country. che weeees
Excellent idea
That’s a stupid idea, let us first focus on equiping the hospitals and schools on the island
Yes…. finally some forward thinking. We would greatly benefit from that. It is all about our history and culture so share and keep. I propose the old staduim at canefield. Build the museum at the front and the garage/building area at the back. It would be an ideal location because of size, close proximity to the old mill cultural site and could you imagine that float parade of costumes leaving canefield on its way to the city for the celebrations. The streets would be lined with people. Please consider it.
mr bully always has the best ideas… maybe we should take what he says into consideration…
Fantastic Idea!! Always wondered what happens to all those beautiful costumes from Carnival. Showcase Dominica’s talent man!!! I hope this comes to fruition.
Oh i love that idea so much and i hope that its not only the costumes but the dresses from the shows. The best dresses and costumes.
lets see what happens.
This is a very excellent and well-thought idea, Mr Bully. Dominican at home and in the Diaspora, and most certainly visiting tourists will welcome this exposure. Indeeed, we need to showcase our talents and heritage!!!!!
This initiative will undoutedly be a “lucrative enterprise” for Dominica – generating much needed funds towards our carnival celebrations!
I applaud that move and fervently hope support from the appropirate authorities will be forthcoming to propel this notion forward.
Praises to you Mr Bully!!!!!!!
A Proud Dominican
Very good proposal Mr Bully.
