Dominicans are being urged to turn out in large numbers later today, as the second session of the People’s Parliament gets underway at the Marigot Credit Union from 6 p.m.
The event is being organised by the Movement to Restore Democracy and the Dominica Citizens Forum.
According to Chairman of the MRD Sam Raphael, all Dominicans, especially those who have concerns regarding the way the country is being ruled should participate.
“We will have a number of discussions on where we should go in terms of the economy, crime and whatever effects the people on a daily basis,” he said.
According to Raphael, the meeting will like to attract a cross section of the public. “Farmers, fishermen, business men and young persons with children are all invited,” he added.
“It’s more than the crowd, the quality of discussion is also fundamental,” he said.
Members of the United Workers Party namely, Leader Ron Green, MP elect for Marigot Edison James and MP elect for Salisbury Hector John are expected to play lead roles in the event.
The People’s Parliament was invented after a decision by the UWP to boycott the parliament, following what they say were irregularities in the December 18, 2010 general elections.
The next People’s Parliament is scheduled for Salisbury.
DNO CORRESPONDENT.
I didn’t see Prevost name being mentioned as playing one of the major roles.
Is that saying something?
I’m glad you are not interfering with any nonsense!
Spraggs hector u are intelligent and young with much to offer your country. speak some sense to your associates. time for you to get sworn into Parliament. Ron and Eddison not on your side, but they using you. Garcon go and get sworn in Bary people want you to be representing them in parliament not in Marigot. why ron dont step down and they make u leader of the opposition. Prevos and James should be mentoring you preparing the ground for the next election in five years, instead they have u doing makackwrie.
@ Jason Dominica doom eh?
Let me tell you.
People like you in the DIE-ASS-POORER Will do just that Die A**. People like you that stay Overs and flap your gums and do nothing to help the country but talking down it’s people. I dislike you Dominicans who do so. Just like some die-ass-po0rers claiming Dominica has no Coffee lmfao when was last time any of you people came back home?Dominica has improved in the past 9 years. When The Blue was in power how much better or worst was this country? While we were on the black list for all them years what uplifting thing did they do to turn around the country for the best? Best you stay overs with your form of thinking. Keep thinking you better than us. I m a FIRST CLASS CITIZEN IN MY COUNTRY. What class are u?
Well yes they want to restore Dominica to the broke treasery, undeveloped place that Eddison had when he was in power, Ron the people of Dominica will never forget what Eddie did and how he run this Country to the ground.
Cant you look around mr MRD lots of young people are actually working, their are projects going up left right and center, You even came back home and invested in this time, not in Eddie time when the country was in dept so thats what the people see so tell us why we would want to change that for what Ron and Eddie offered that did not work so move on and go represent the few people who still believe in you and actually went out and voted for you.
shame on big men who love playing games with people lives.
jason ka foo
Jason what seems to be intelligent to you may not be to all. If Dominica is doomed you better watch out for when Doomsday comes you will be one of those who’ll be among.
UWP’s People’s Parliament is ‘Children Maylay’
boy…Movement of Retarded Dominicans on the move again…choops..CHOSONI…TIME WASTING
Edison and Green it is high time now to stop all this nonsense and get serious. Life is just for living.
@ Jason. The development which is occuring in Dominica is testimony of the DLP’s work, so please let this government continue its good works. Rome was not bulit in a day, therefore it takes time to progress in every sector. Also, Dominica is not the only place with a high unemployment rate (so u say), majority of countries in the world have this problem.
The holders of the People’s parliament are just sore losers who dont know how to accept defeat. But the people in those 3 constituencies should take note of their behaviour and vote out those 3 candidates. Give Labour 21 seats. hahaha. d road from Roseau to Posse on the way. delice water on the way. is that they vex about!
TELL ME WHAT IS THE PEOPLES PARLIAMENT AND THE REASON FOR THIS UNELECTED BODY
OF PEOPLE. THIS IS A LIKE A GOVERNMENT IN EXILE WHICH CAN BE CONSIDERED A FORM OF
TREASON IN A DISAGREEMENT TO THE WISHES OF THE MAJORITY OF THE DOMINICAN PEOPLE. WHAT GAMES ARE THESE GUYS PLAYING, IS IT A GAME OF INABILITY TO CREATE AN OPPOSITION IN THE PARLIAMENT WHERE THEIR VOICES AND IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HEARD BY THE WIDER PUBLIC. IT IS ABOUT TIME THESE GUYS SELECT A PARLIAMENTARY LEADER AND GIVE CONSIDERATION FOR THE CONTINUED ADVANCEMENT OF DOMINICA.
THIS WITCH HUNT ON SKERRIT MUST STOP NOW, THE DLP WILL STILL BE IN GOVERNMENT NOW OR ANY OTHER ELECTION. A FACT
The pappy show continues… Let Sam, Ron and Eddoe them have their fun, while they continue with their nonsense we will continue to bring development to the country like the ceremony to bring water to Delices this afternoon; Always ahead of those …..!!!!!!
MRD and UWP (the same people) just sickens me. These elderly folks need to find work to do. I believe they have too much spare time on their hands. The country is moving in the right direction, but they are just trying to put stumbling blocks. But, Dominicans are much smarter than that and won’t be misled. If these people did not learn anything from the last elections, well they will never learn. Dominicans have spoken and we need to move on and not look back. Its FORWARD WE GO!!!!
PM just do your job. The MASSES are with you. The minority can never be stronger than the majority. At no time.
Interestingly, Sam Raphael while announcing their “peoples parliament” for Marigot, is fretting about the Government having more frequent meeting of the parliaments!!! Guess Sam and the Workers crew have just began to see the light.
I feel sorry for Hector “Sprags” – the poor boy just finish school in the states and come back home. He is hijacked by a buch of people with their own selfish motive … (He cannot get salary because he has not yet been sworn in). De Bawi boy refuses to engage in public discussion on their current stance, however he is being sent on radio to talk crap about governance of the country.
Time will tell
Hmmm…
To The Day Has Come…
I do not know where you get your statistics from. But the records available show that unemployment has risen and so has poverty levels. Maybe you should do a little research yourself before you decide to take shots at Jason.
To Jason
I do not believe that Dominica is doomed. Dominica still has a lot to offer. If the country;s affairs are managed well how they are supposed to be then Dominica would be the paradise that it is being marketed as.
To All
This is a very good initiative where the people get to consult with the politicians. Why would you consider such an effort a waste of time? Would you prefer the politicians sit in their high chair and drive by once in a while to smile at you and throw a few caps and shirts around and then go back to the house and make decisions they believe can help us? Their financial situation grows better everyday while we are losing our jobs, our young people, our dignity (when we have to beg them). Go to these functions… let your voices be heard… Ensure these people know what we the everyday men and women need. As I am sure if you had the choice between paving a road between Roseau and Portsmouth or creating small business grants for D.S.C graduates and other Dominican citizens who would like to venture into their own business and can show how this business would benefit the country (taxes paid, young people hired, etc)….. we would choose the latter.
I am and will always be…
A True Patriot
Homey i support you 100%
Wheh garcon, DNO I tired with those people now. I swear that I was not even going to read their
koshonie. We tired with allu men of no shame and dignity. Please let it go.
Where democracy go allu want to restore it? We the people voted for Skerro. Wait for new election.
Allu will get plenty!!!!!!
So idle men if allu doh have nothing to do , go get a hobby.Go birdwatching or something.
Allu can even go and count leaves outside for all I care.
Allu cannot pull the wool over our eyes anymore. Our eyes daybaway.
Allu can mattay and sortay we love our handsome PM forever.
Chew on that!!!!!!!!
Jason should just stay whereever he is since Dominica is doomed, MRD are just sore loosers, they cant come to grips with the fact that they have no power. GREED
Yes it makes sence, Dominicans are all blind, but later will be greater!!!!!!!!!
Dominicans deal with the issues of the day….. It’s high time we look beyound Politics.. God bless the land of my BIRTH..
@ JASON— I rebuke your negative words in Jesus Name.. DOMINICA IS NOT DOOMED. Now to correct you, jobs HAVE increased in Dominica for the past 9 years.. Before you speak conduct a survey. Now as for the young people who have as you said ‘fled’ the country, where did they get the money to go and stay overseas?? It takes A LOT OF MONEY to maintain yourself in a foreign land, especially the US. Any young person leaving Dominica leaves not because of lack of job but because they WANT to go and stay somewhere else. OR they left to further their education such as getting their bachelors, phds, ect. JASON, LEARN TO BE A POSITIVE AND MOTIVATIONAL YOUNG MAN. You after all, is a DOMINICAN.
As far as I am concerned, the country is in good hands and is being governed well. As humans we all make mistakes and this is expected. So far the government is doing a good enough job. I will not be attenting the people’s parliament.
@jason……..the reason why you seeing those kind of responses is because the majority of Dominicans are not buying this “people’s parliament” thing.
I don’t buy it either and my reason is outlined below.
-I have no problem in discussing the way forward for Dominica. However, I would prefer to have the discussions held within a forum that is neutral, a forum that covers all sides on the political spectrum. Such neutral forums exist in many countries and is not impossible to convene.
We all know that the Movement to Restore Democracy and the Dominica Citizens Forum were formed after the last general election as direct opposition to the results of the polls. Would there be a sense of neutrality within a forum of that nature? I think not.
The losing side of the election has made themselves judge, jury and executioner of the poll’s results without the assistance or opinion of a third party. Why do you think there are umpires in cricket matches or referees in football matches? Precisely to get the opinion of a third party, which in essence should be neutral.
If the international observers at the elections had concluded that it was not fair, I would be among the first to call for the resignation of the government. But for the losing side to conclude that it was not fair and fraudulent is like going to a cricket match where the losing side is left to be the umpire and determine the outcome match after they had lost. Does that make sense?
Because of this the MRD and the “people’s parliament” cannot be neutral.
Give me a neutral forum to discuss Dominica’s future any day, and I will be the first to attend, otherwise, I am not in it!
MAD PPL REAL MAD JOKERS!!!
MM I THINK U MISSWHAT IS HAPPENING, BUT GOOD LUCK TO THEM I HOPE THEY GET EXACTLY WHAT THEY LOOKING FOR!!!!
Let go Ron and Eddie. DA want to hear more about bin and fertilizer bobol. When you all finish with that, tell us about the PM house. Keep that up and you will be in office in 5 yrs …..lol
You know, for all what it may before we sit here and make some ill informed judgment about the People Parliament thing. Let us try to sort the view of those who attend, before we just criticize.
I believe this is a wonderful opportunity for the ordinary citizens to vent their feelings. Good opportunity for social networking.
On the political side, I think this thing stand to benefit the party in power.
I urge those who have the time to atttend to do this and do not only listen to the political but make them explain certain things. For instnace, How Parliament itself is conducted. Something like a mock trial.
What is the dress code for this parliament? My mother have a large shapo pie. Will that do? But I have to put it when I reach because the wind will blow it. Interesting.
Sam and Ron should be in delices to take part of the ground breaking of there water project instead of that nonesence they going to in marigot.
No wonder Dominica is doomed. Just look at the kind of reponses to an intelligent discussion on the way forward for Dominica.
For all of you boasting of the DLP success. Answer this: how many young people have found jobs in Dominica over the past 9 years? How many have FLED the country?
Good luck people…DA in deep trouble!!!!
We dont need anymore of these people telling us how the country should be running.. they had their chance and only gained Dominica to be on he black list for years. when they came out of office we got off the list. give us a break you guys hungry for power its not going to happen. In times of economy strugles Dominica still managing to get structures built and done unlike some other well known and favored countries. We are doing better than some.
welll NEXT ONE IS SALISBURY FOR TRUE UNDER A TREE Lol..cause is by election and they going lose two more seats….lol..n if ppl vote dem again i doe think nothing will change..i waiting for the salisbury one wi hahai lol
I hope we are not going to hear or rehash what was done in the pass we need to move forward, what are we going to do to get this Country on the way should be the subject. I wouldnt be able to attend but I will be looking forward to read the feedbacks from the people and the directions from those of parties involved.
I believe stongely about the way things are unfolding on the Island expecially the way people think of themselves and the decisions that they make which will of cause impact the out look of the Island and the over all impact on our Young People they must be given a chance to be heard they have opinions too it is time we listen to them for a change
Keep on educating the people on the different topics that touches our lives the time for action is now so lets put the politic aside and deal with the issues of the day,
And remember if you want respect you have to show respect to get respect..
all you boys getting me real vex. Get work to do man.
Marigot again… all these people can promote is nonsense….. its time they realise that nobody is actually interested in what they are doin…. shame shame shame
I think that you mean “restore a republic” as opposed to “restore democracy.”
The term democracy is misused in this circumstance.
A republic, which the US is (not a democracy) does’t suppress the minority.
A democracy is essentially “mob or majority rule.”
In other words, the minority and their opinions don’t count.
It is high time that all the people and polititians learned the difference in meaning between the two.
Otherwise, use the word “freedom” state.
People use the word democracy to mean a state that is free, but, that isn’t necessarily so.
“We want to live in a democracy.” Oh really, you want to live in a place where everyone is not equal and does not have equal rights of expression, speech, etc.? A place that suppresses the opposition.
That sounds more like a dictatorship or communism to me.
It seems to me that this thing is becoming more and more a UWP affair. Or maybe it has been a UWP affair from the onset.
Why keep this “people’s parliament” in constituencies that the UWP have won? Wouldn’t it make more sense to have one in another constituency, namely one that wasn’t won by the UWP? This would make it more interesting, more attention grabbing and it would give it (at least on the surface) a sense of neutrality.
Or maybe they are afraid that if it was done in a non-UWP constituency there might be trouble like riots and things of that nature. This would be a poor excuse because we Dominican are in general a non-violent people.
In my book, this just don’t make sense.
All you find that Peoples Parliament thing making sence?
