After pleading not guilty to stealing a cell phone from Charles Pinard in Roseau, Lorenzo Pinard identified the complainant as a potential surety.
Magistrate Ossie Lewis quickly responded to Lorenzo’s indication, by stating that a complainant cannot stand as a surety for any defendant in any matter of the court.
The defendant, who is known to the court, is accused of stealing a Nokia cellphone valued at $899 from the complainant on July 14 in Roseau.
He was remanded and will appear in court for trial on September 3, 2010.
