UPDATED: Dominican in St. Maarten knighted and inducted into Holland’s House of Orange

Bernadine Stephen

In the light of negative publicity Dominicans have received recently in St. Maarten there is a ray of hope with a Dominican living in that country being knighted and inducted into the Holland’s House of Orange by the Queen of Holland.

Dominica News Online has learnt that Bernadine Stephen, the daughter of Alice and Wilford Stephen from Paix Bouche, was among seven residents of St. Maarten who were bestowed with the prestigious honor on April 29.

Stephen attended elementary school in Paix Bouche and later moved to Roseau and became very active in the Catholic Church. She moved to St. Maarten in 1970 but her work in the Catholic community continued. She introduced St. Maarten to the Feast of La Salette where every year a priest from Dominica visits that country to preside at that feast. This has proven to be a huge success.

Her untiring work among the sick and shut-ins in did not go unnoticed and was one of the main reasons why she was knighted and inducted.

Recently the image of Dominicans in St. Maarten suffered a major blow when three of their fellow countrymen were arrested for murder and other heinous crimes in that country.

this is very good indeed, when it is good we have to talk about it. to often we don’t talk about the good that people do and quick to talk about the Bad.

Thank you Bernadine Stephen for a job well done.

Two weeks ago my family and I were in SXM and it was quite evident that Dominicans were hurt by the crimes these young Dominican men committed.

I believe that Dominicans who live and work abroad should do all what they can to respect the laws and culture in the country they live in. We should also do all withing our power to discourage fellow Dominican who are committing crimes because “Peter will pay for Paul”…………..One Dominican making trouble is just too much.

To all Dominicans like Bernadine who is adding more praise to our “Nature Island of the Caribbean/World…lol…, thank you and may God bless you.

Yes. Of course. There is a lot of good in us. 99.9% of it go unpublished. Like I did not publish my award in the warrior category for bravery from that country.
