Test match move to Dominica causes controversy

Although it has been widely acknowledged that the third Test between West Indies and Australia and the Regional four-day matches between Guyana and the Leeward Islands have been moved from Guyana to Dominica, the matter is still causing controversy.

The president of West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has accused the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) of acting unilaterally on the matter.

CMC is reporting that Dinanath Ramnarine accused the WICB of not seek his organization’s approval to switch the matches.

“WIPA has not signed off on Dominica being both for Tests and the [regional] matches involving Guyana,” CMC reported Ramnarine telling a Trinidadian TV show. “In fact, we objected to it and we felt that the WICB made the decision and then informed us.”

Ramnarine continued, “We found out before the WICB had informed us and we wrote to the WICB indicating to them that we understand the matches had been moved to Dominica and we asked the WICB to provide reasons for such a move. We were talking to them right through and we asked them that if any decisions were going to be taken that there will be a discussion.”

Ramnarine said WIPA felt if the matches involving Guyana in the R4T were to be moved, the first option should have been to allow the opposing side to stage the contest instead, according to CMC.

“If the Leeward Islands are playing Guyana and if there is a move, at least you would say, ‘well, let’s play the game in Leewards, in one of the Leewards countries’,” he said.

“So we didn’t see the need to move the game and we wondered why,” CMC reported Ramnarine as saying.

According to CMC Ramnarine said they heard the Prime Minister of Dominica saying the island was hosting the Test match and, again, they raised that with the WICB and it was then the WICB confirmed that the Test match has been moved from Guyana to Dominica.

The regional four-day matches are taking place this weekend at the Windsor Park while the third Test between West Indies and Australia is scheduled for April 23-27.

yessss iiii!!!I do understand the mans point of view however how often does this happen to Dominica?Sorry dude shit happens get over it!….Anyway the reason why i think Mr Ramnarine is upset is because of the lost revenue…lets be honest man; this is not because of any moral issues it’s the money.

When I read the headline I was concerned. However having read the article, unless there is part 2, no where is it mentioned that Ramanarine is objecting to the test been played in Dominica……”According to CMC Ramnarine said they heard the Prime Minister of Dominica saying the island was hosting the Test match and, again, they raised that with the WICB and it was then the WICB confirmed that the Test match has been moved from Guyana to Dominica.”… Ramnarine objection to the 4 day match been moved to Dominica instead of one of the Leeward island is quite valid. The WICBC should at least give an explanation ….

Ramnarine you have absolutely “NO SAY”. The matches will be held in Dominica. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. If you don’t like it…lump it. People like you that causing problems in West Indies cricket. Dominicans have literally ‘saved West Indies cricket’ by the massive turn out for previous matches. Think West Indies Cricket and not ‘individual islands’ or else ‘Give it up!’

Ramanarine said he heard the match was switched to Dominica from the mouth of PM Skerit. You see, I always felt that Skeritt was to busy to talk. he is the Prime Minister and Mano is the president of Windward Island Criclet. Why not let Nanton break the news at the right time< Skerrit just thinks that he and he alone is the mouth and legs of Dominica, and if he does not do it to get credit, it will not be done properly. The man has an ego problem and it is already hurting the country. Relax Mr. Skeritt because before you Dominica was moving. You are not Castro or Chavez!

THAT BURN YOU TimeForTruth GIVE SKERRIT A BREAK.DOMINICA WAS MOVING BEFORE SKERIT BUT IT MOVING AT A FASTER PASE WITH SKERRIT SO GIVE THE MAN A BREAK AND TRY TO APPRECIATE THE GOOD THAT HE IS DOING AND DONT BRING HIM DOWN BECAUSE HE BROKE THE NEWS.AND TELL RAMANARINE FOR ME PLIZ RELAX AND LET DOMINICA ENJOYED FOR ONCE WHAT THEY ENJOYED FOR SO LONG, ITS OUR TURN NOW.THANKS GOD FOR SKERRIT VISION TO MOVE ON TO CHINA,THATS THE RESULT.

i find it hard to understand you point. This no secret, that the match was moved to Dominica, if Skerrit wanna express his excitement, he has the right to do so.
But No matter, people were gonna hate soon as the news surfaced, people like yourself. Guess its in your jeans to hate.
And what is interesting, i see the need for Ram to voice his concerns, but if you are Dominican, you need to support your leader no matter what. i understand you may have differences in your home but when an outsider tries to come at anyone in your home, you feel the need to defend.

If there were any reason to bicker about it should be the non inclusion of young Kavem Hodge on the wind ward team. Besides Ramnarine is right, the guyana leeward game should have been played in the leeward island. I for one would like to hear the WICB’s reason for putting a game between guyana and leeward in Dominica. if i were a leeward islander i would have been angry. And again let it be known that the test match did not come to dominica by and through discussion with WIPA. This is called protocol. but again we dominicans are so accustomed to things being done in dominica without consultation with any one that we find Ramnarine as being out of place. Frankly, he is not out of place, as a matter of fact i think he is doing what he has agreed to do on behalf of the players that he represents.

it was scheduled to be played in Guyana so the best next thine is to play it in a neutral location when Dominica was playing mexico in 2006 football for the return leg and we could not host it we did not play it in mexico we played it in the us remember so think of that

PPL I don’t think the issue is DOMINICA the issue is why it is one of the “Small Islands” because if it was in Barbados, Jamaica or Trinidad they would not be talking like that, I have a problem with when they treat us small islands like we are not worthy of these games when in the near future I see our Winwards & Leeward Team members taking alot of positions on the Senior West Indies side ONE LOVE Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada and the rest because Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados and jamaica feel they are West Indies Cricket and West Indies Cricket are them and to hell with us “Small Islanders”..

RAMNARINE REMINDS ME OF A UNION LEADER WE HAD IN THE TIME OF PATRICK JOHN.REGARDLESS TO WHAT THE SITUATION WAS,ONCE A PROPOSITION DID NOT COME FROM HIM,IT MUST BE DESTROYED. RAMNARINE IS THE SAME MAN WHO RUNS THE WICB CRAZY FOR MONEY FOR THE PLAYERS. THE WEST INDIES CRICKETERS ARE PLAYING IN EMPTY STADIUMS FOR YEARS, WINSOR PARK IS THE ONLY STADIUM IN THE REGION WHICH HAD THOUSANDS OF SPECTATORS WATCHING A TEST MATCH IN TEN YEARS,RAMNNY HAS A PROBLEM.

Remember the last series…… They played in other caribbean countries which had cricket matches over the years…… And the venues were rather empty, the W.I team was so disappointing…. Then we had a match in Dominica, the venue was jam packed, and we saw a massive improvement in that game, a lot of runs were scored, a lot of wickets were taken and the crowd was Blooming…….. Not only did the W.I get support but also did India.. It was so lively….. But in our brother and sister islands, its like cricket means nothing to them no more bcuz the west indies performance is getting more disappointing over the years, but i guess crowd support can play a major factor in the performance of a team…. Before when we didnt hav international matches in Dca, other cricket venues in the caribbean used to be so lively, now thats all washed away.. Right now, when matches are played in Antigua, St. Lucia Trinidad, Guyana, u can actually count how many people are in the stadium, the camera doesnt even want to show the crowd… But not in Dominica

So i say that all West Indies cricket should be moved to Dominica because we are the only country right now that comes out in numbers to support our regional cricket……

    • warma
      February 12, 2012

yes sir – you got that right – crowd support is a significant factor in spurring your team to victory. All you said was correct – it was really not until the WI team got to DA that they showed signs of life. That’s why all those professional teams in the world love to play in their stadiums or courts – its called “home-field advantage”. the verbal and enthusiastic support given by their fans can prove the decisive factor in the home team winning and can also prove to be a negative force on the visiting team and cause them to play with not the amount of vigor that they would on other occasions.

I say bring more matched to Dominica,,,and work a deal with L’Express des Isles to make early day trips to bring St Lucians over as well – let them come spend some money in DA

why are we so unjust? if they moved a match of the windward to the leeward we would have made lots of noise! so stop that nonscence dominicans. the match between guyana and leeward should be played in the leeward. plain and simple.

As A cricket lover myself am forced to comment

without being petty i believe some of these comments are one sided and senseless

Dominica is a cricket island itself and has produced some of the best cricket players and is still continuing to do so.

cricket is a west indies ting to some extent,, we are west indians and if Dominica was chosen for the game let it be, ( its not like if japan was chosen then i could understad the force and even so…)

Dominica was chosen for the game in order to be neutral. there will be no preferential treatment for guyanes player in guyana niether for leewards in the leeward isalnds

International cricket has been played at the stadium in the past and will be played there again.

as along as the staduim is available i say let the cricket be played there and stop all this mumbo jumbo about leewards and guyana.

now we see what solidarity means among west indians.. its just a farce….

Dinanath Ramnarine is just a controversial man, that’s all. He just like to be in the limelight. When he’s not, he’s angry !! He only create problems for Windies cricket.

    February 11, 2012

To all of you who are blasting Ramnarine, it would help if your comments were based on information and not emotion. The fact is WICB has an agreement with WIPA that both sides will agree when and where matches are to be played. It’s a binding agreement that they have. If the WICB takes a decision to place a match in a particular country and then informs WIPA, Ramnarine has every reason to complain. In fact, WIPA is within it rights to call its players off.

The major problems is the WICB which refuses to respect the players or accept their representative. Here’s one more fact. Over the past few years, WIPA and the WICB have gone to some form of arbitration or other ten time. WIPA has won every time. Ten out of ten. Now, tell me, who has a problem?

In the real world, WIPA wins every time there’s a dispute. The principal is simple. If we have an agreement that both sides must be involved in a decision, why would one side take the decision? How many of you are at the Leewards/Guyana game right now?

Ummm……criminals also go before the legal system and are set free. The justice system nowadays seems to be more focused on technicalities and loopholes of the law when coming to decisions rather than focusing on what is wrong or right.

The most interesting part of the quote was left out when Ramnarine or whatever is his name said WHY DOMINICA?

We need to support our cricket but launch a clean verbal attack on this man through mouth and signs to make the region know we belong and deserve our piece of our pie too.

  22. February 11, 2012

WIPA IMPRESSED OF OUR SUPPORTIVE SO MY PEOPLE LETS JUST KEEP IT UP,THEY LOSS HUGE OF MONEY FROM THE PREVIOUS MATCHES IN THE CARIBBEAN,DOMINICA WAS THE ONLY ISLAND THEY MADE MONEY,WIPA KNOWS THEY WILL GET A CROWD IN DOMINICA BETWEEN LEEWARD AND GUYANA THEY ARE SMART,THE WIPA KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, JUST BECAUSE IS AUSTRALIA IF WAS BAGLADESH TEAM THEY WOULD HAVE KEPT QUITE,

  23. February 11, 2012

I want Dominica to see, take a very close look at how CARICOM and OECS view us like if we’re not important, poor and low standard nation. It’s time for Dominicans to be positive, lift our heads high, think more of ourselves.

ALBA treats us better than our own neighbours, our own brothers and sisters. I’ve heard other islands question why is Dominica getting soo much investment? or we do not deserve certain developments.

Dominicans open your eyes and know your real enemy, they may be those who are closest to us. The green eyes monsters are revealing themselves.

the man has a point. its guyana vs leeward islands. dominica is not in the leeward islands so the match should really be played in a leeward island. we would be bickering also, if a wind ward island game was moved to a non windward country. allu need to be fair.

Ohhhh brother!! Once again the biggest problem in West Indies cricket ie Dinanath Ramnarine and his so called WIPA is out looking to stir up trouble. But who dat man Ramnarine think he is to even want to dictate to the WICB where it must & must not schedule international cricket matches involving the West Indies. Folks I will say this again – it seems that Dinanath Ramnarine is nothing more than a troublemaker out to score points against the WICB.

Well Dominicans, from April 23rd to the 27th, let us teach Dinanath Ramnarine a lesson he will never forget nah.

What is wrong with these people? What happen Dominica is not considered GOOD ENOUGH to host a test match? what? we too small? we too poor? we too black? what is it? It seems like everyone wants a piece of the pie and Dominica cannot get it too? Are the caribbean islands made up of Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica? so what about the other islands?
