The Portsmouth Reunion kicked off on Saturday with a mini-carnival parade witnessed by hundreds of residents.
The parade was highlighted by the participation of over 250 French nationals from Guadeloupe who formed several different costume bands.
The reunion is being organized by Portsmouth Reunion Organization, Inc, a non-profit organization.
Activities will continue until August 12.
The parade started at the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School and made its way through Zicack, and eventually onto the streets of the main commercial area of Portsmouth Central.
The reunion continues throughout this week with several family activities. There will also be a Belle Marché on Saturday together with a Market Day Revival at the Portsmouth Market.
On Sunday there will be a Dinner and Dance, then a J’ouvert followed by August Monday Reunion Festivities in the second town.
See photos below of the reunion parade.

Well done Mr. Ian Douglas in taking the lead and facilitating such a wonderful event. Three cheers for Ian!!
let me do this;for all the reunions i miss and all the rest to come,
let me say:happy reunion, sewo all you sewo.
I does peepee behind that tree all the time.
Just curious…Is the bwa bwa a french group too. No mention was made of their participation. They were not 250 in number but I would like to think they made a difference.
Very empowering theme.
Mahaut should take a page out of Portsmouth book this is what you call organization not the rubbish the Pal.Rep from Mahaut say they slap together leaving out so many events like local bands and so forth you go Douglas you are a man of business hats of to the community of Portsmouth the parade looking good
First I would like to make it clear that Mr Douglas is not involved in this reunion. He was left out. It is a private organisation thing. Second there were no bands or troups from Portsmouth. Where is the program of events? Yes it is true that the parade was nice but again it was strangers making it happen.POrtsmouth is worth much more than that. We yet to see the opening ceremony, speech, culture in the park,as annonced.
If it wasn’t for Ian Douglas and his skills in International deplomacy those French people would not even have considered comming down to portsmouth.
As usual ian was probably working in the background trying to make the path straight and level for the organizers to have some smooth constructive fun.Ian is not looking for praise so he would never come out straight and say it but if it was not for him alot of this would not have taken place!!
ian did nothing get yr facts rite
Would like to know where were the Portsmouth troups? was it a Guadeloupe people reunion? How can you invite someone to an event that you are no part off. It is shameful.
it was a french reunion apprarently
from my knowledge there were several troups from possi that were contacted, none showed up to the event..i do hope thier upcoming events are more successful and the public would take part….you go possi reunion….its the first one in so many years…nothing beats a failure unless you fail to try…
