PHOTO OF THE DAY: Cricket on the road

These young people were caught grabbing a game of cricket on the road. The ‘pitch’ was actually uphill. Photo taken in Petite Soufriere.

I remember those days of cricket playing in wire. Sometimes the women’s league would play on a sunday afternoon those were the good old days. We too would buy frozen joyce and peppermit candies those were the days to remember. I dont know what happen to those days, they are gone but not forgotten. Everything is so different now, things have change, people have change also. We need those good old days back.

Awww… I miss those days of playing in the street. We always used to play “I declare a certain piece of land”….:), then we would go and get coconut ice pop by a well known shop keeper in DA. Walk in her backyard and scream her name thru her window. She was so nice and would also give us custard frozen joyce free. Boy look nice time!!! That’s the DA I know and love! Not this DA today nuh.

Beautiful picture. It brought back so much pleasant memories. At those times, farmers were at war with us. We use to pick the hard, green and immature grapefruits and oranges and used them for bowling.
I am now a farmer but I do not have that problem. The young boys are locked behind a computer, a smart phone or a gaming console. When they are out, its an iPod or a cell phone.

Those were the days. activities like these have been replaced by facebook, playstations, internet and computer games. At the end of such fun filled activity where everyone in the village would come out, we would find a cool river to jump in and have a bath, no knives, guns or cutlasses. Maybe a few but then tomorrow we would be at it again. Good fun.

I don’t know where you played your cricket, but where I came from, we would have our knives and cutlasses at the ready in case of fight. You never knew what those other rascals would do, so you always have to be ready for anything.
