The Dominica Basketball Association (DABA) is set to benefit from a $5,000 sponsorship grant from the China Railway 17th Bureau Group Corporation (CR17).
The announcement was made and the funds handed over at a press conference earlier this morning.
Project Manager at CR17, Jing Hoa, through his interpreter, expressed that the interest he now has in basketball was ignited after he first came to Dominica and has since grown, which is why he and his company are particularly pleased to sponsor DABA.
Hao mentioned that apart from the company’s primary concern, which is the construction of the Roseau to Portsmouth main road, CR17 is also concerned about supporting the Dominican public in different areas.
Hao said, “When we leave Dominica, we would want the Dominican people to have not only an impression of CR17 as a construction company, but as a company interested in other areas, like sport. In the future, I, in my capacity, would always like to try to give as much assistance to the young people in the DABA.”
DABA President, Dave Baron, while making mention of the national team being currently in training for the Windward Islands Basketball Tournament in September, was grateful for the support granted and looked forward to more contributions and support at games by CR17 and their employees.
“Raising funds is always a challenge here in Dominica and to have the management of CR17 come onboard and support the DABA means a lot to us and to the players that the money will go towards,” he stated.
Baron also urged CR17 to consider assisting the DABA with the upgrading of a couple basketball courts, but reiterated the Association’s gratitude for the support.
Thanks CR17. We know that this is for public relations purposes in light of the bad press which you and the government are getting about the West Coast Road Project.
On another note about basketball: There was a call for the resurfacing of the Massacre Basketball Court; was that done? If not, will it be done in time for the competition? I remain optimistic.
There is also an electrical problem at the Massacre court that needs to be fixed.
Any assistence is very much appreciated. How do you say that in Chinese language. Mesi bokou nonetheless.
Good job CR17 is all you that getting project so is all you to give back now. DA business brokes.
We appreciate. Next stop… La Plaine basketball court.:)
