Jeff Joseph to get official funeral; day of national mourning to be declared

Cadence legend Jeff Joseph will be given an official funeral, government has said.

A date has not been disclosed for the funeral service; but government said that it will be declared a day of national mourning.

Joseph’s efforts as a goodwill ambassador to Dominica must be recognized, according to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, released on Friday.

The Grammacks star was also a major promoter of the World Creole Music Festival in Martinique and Guadeloupe and has been singled out as a major contributor to the preservation of Dominica’s Creole culture.

He died on Wednesday after a kidney ailment.

The flag of the Commonwealth of Dominica will be flown at half-mast on all public buildings on the day of Joseph’s funeral service.

    Life is a period of time given by the Most High for one to prepeare oneself to dwell in the garden of eternity;
    Death is the moveing on to the next level, from this world.
    Death have a bigger effect on the living than the dead;
    In death alot arise.Jeff’s death raised alot of awareness, alot of hope alot of determination at a stage when our Country is going through turmoil; and we need acause to get back on course befor it to late for the children future;There always going to have those who oppose but once there are more for, that is what matters.
    All the good memories poured out by almost everyone, qualified Jeff as a Leader, everyone he interact with, he left a positive impression on them.
    His passing is a good uppertunity to take stock of our action,our relationship with each other a chance to try and make a change for the good of our country, cause it has been a long time since a child of the soil pass with great effects on a vast number of people, and as life is uncertain, we need to be thankfull for the experience of Jeff as a hard worker, a go getter, an achiever,some one who had the power to bring people together, and should take this uppertunity to forgive, so we can move on than to hold on to the bad feelings toward each other which takes us nowhere.
    May Dominica get a chance to make a change in attitude,at his State Furneral, from the Government to the Opposition and all in between for the good of our soul and Dominica. May He Continue To Influence Us With The Positive Memories Of Him. RIP JEFF!!

    It’s such a shame that one can’t even die in peace these days. What’s wrong with you Dominicans? Have you all gone bonkers?
    If you guys have nothing good to contribute to this forum, why don’t you shut your trap. Are you all afraid that if you shut your big mouths something else will open?
    Shame! Shame! Shame!on you on you people.

    One of these days you gonna wonder what have you done with your lives.
    Some of you have no ambition. All you do all day is find faults and devise ways and means to destroy people who are trying to change theirs and their family’s lives.
    You all need to get a real life. Stop letting your idle brain go to the extreme because it’s nothing but the devils worshop.
    No matter what side of the fence you come from at the end of the day we are all Dominicans. I’ve always learn from the past
    that politicians will tear each other apart by day but come night time, they are knocking their glasses toasting to those idiots who are out there beating each others brains out for their sakes.

    Don’t you think it’s time that “we the people” come together in the best interest of our family and country?

    was Jejj contributing to the Dominican society? like giving a scholarship to a less fortunate child from his village? Did he donate anything like christmas time to the needy especially from his village? What was really his impact on the dominican society? I am only now hearing about heroism, ambassador, talk now the guy is dead. Yes he sang music, but that was his personal gain.that was his job, that was how he made a living. Yes he was popular, yes he was a great entertainer, but that doen’t make him a hero. That does not qualify him for a state funeral. Does it mean that everybody thathas good talent and is popular should get a state funeral?. So everybody like swingstars members, CK members, first serenade member, midnight groovers, KUbuli dance theater,and the list goes on and on.when all these people die, they willdeserve a state funeral too. and a day of morning too.

    Jeff Jo Goodwill Ambassador in the same fold/Diplomatic circles representing Dominica, just like several non-Dominicans with questionable dealings? How shameful !!! Jeff never would like to be in such company. Those crooks possess Dominica’s diplomatic passports to do what? Invest in the country?

    Certainly, DNO, and its readers must be acquainted with the news about those sales of our passports and those “foreign diplomats?” Are those revelations true? Have the authorities denied those revelations? Goodwill ambassadors like Ophelia should give Govt. back their diplomatic passport for the simple reason that international crooks, millionaires, those with questionable activities, also have our diplomatic passports, for all kinds of reasons but to invest.

    It means Jeff Jo, Ophelia and genuine Dominicans holding such appointments have been treated with disrespect and contempt. Do we as a people understand what is going on with the sales of our passports and the issuing of diplomatic passports for Big money to any, any body? That appalling situation must be condemned by all loving Dominicans here and abroad, musicians, singers, other artists, professionals, Civil Society and not hidden under the carpet.

    The press must consistently inform readers about those practices that are putting our country in extremely BAD LIGHT in the world. There are INTERCONNECTIONS here. Corruption? Fraud? Money-laundering? A FEW making MILLIONS, while the majority facing a steady decrease in their living standards. You all not seeing that? Is Dominica experiencing an epidemic of BLINDNESS or Lock JAW? Jeff will always be remembered as one with revolutionary ideals, creative and hard-working. Frankly, our cultural/musical icon should never be in the diplomatic grouping with those people we are hearing about. Never.

    All around the world where Jeff Joe is known whether in person or by his music, mourns the loss of a Legend, an icon, a great musician for Cadance lypso music and a true representative for Dominica and Dominicans both home and abroad. It is a sad time and a great loss to those who truly knew you and admire you in whatever way and you will live on in our hearts. Your music will continue to play on in our homes, in our cars, over the airwaves, in the clubs and in foreign land.
    My greatest sympathy to your family who have loss a member of the family. No one knows the time when our life will expire, but whatever last memory you shared, whether it’s a hug, a kiss, a handshake or even sharing the stage with him, let it be the living memory of Jeff Joe in your heart. Jeff is gone, but not forgotten. May your soul rest in peace. Long lived Jeff Joe…

    its very intreasting that jeff joe is no longer alive and all flowers are bestored uopn him. an official furenel, and the works.lip service is the oder of the day, hence my question is as follows,when the brother was alive and kicking why more recogniation was not given to him?,he making such a meaning ful contribution to Dominica and its culture as a genuine Dominican.why he could not recieve a parcle of land like Brian Lara recieved?, why he did not recieve more tangables for such a great work done on behalf of Dominica.He is dead and at this time all the flowers are given when its of no signifance to the brother.Such hyporicates this society is.
