Ministry of Health hosts Epi Info workshop

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute –(CNFI), the Pan American Health Organization – (PAHO) and the World Health Organization –(WHO) is conducting a five day workshop on Epi Info— a statistical software used in data collection and analysis.

The objective of the workshop is to increase capacity in the areas of management and analysis of food and Nutrition Surveillance.

The workshop runs from June 20 to 24, 2011, at the Public Service Training Centre.

A total of 20 participants are attending the training which includes Family Nurse Practitioners, Officers from the Health Information Unit, Health Promotion Resource Centre, National Drug Prevention Unit and the Ministry of Education.

During the training participants will learn how to create questionnaires and enter data; know the basic statistical analysis and introduction to Epidemiological report.

This workshop is timely for two reasons:
1.    The participants will have hands on in the use of current data collected at the Health Districts and how it can be analysed.
2.    The Ministry is in the process of implementing the World Health Organization New Growth Standards for monitoring growth and nutritional status of children 0 to 5 year olds.

The training will be extended to the other health workers in the near future.

The workshop is coordinated by Nutritionist Marynese Titre of the Health Promotion Unit and facilitated by Renelle Aaron of the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CNFI).
