UWP appoints new senator

The United Workers Party (UWP) has appointed its former Roseau North candidate Danny Lugay as a senator in parliament.

Lugay replaces UWP candidate for the Salybia constituency Claudius Sanford, who is pursuing a Master’s Degree overseas.

His appointment came this morning at the start of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament.

Danny Lugay had contested the Roseau North seat and lost it to the incumbent Julius Timothy was sworn in today.

“Madame Speaker, I know Mr. Lugay for 16 years and Senator Lugay is a spiritual man, family man, a man of value and integrity and this is why he was nominated to be a senator and he was sworn in as a senator today,” Leader of the Opposition Hector John Said.

John also urged the new senator to be a servant of the people.

“I would like to ask of my good friend and colleague Mr. Lugay to respect the constitution of the commonwealth of Dominica, do not use the resources of the commonwealth of Dominica to enrich himself. To not get involved into fraudulent activities, to remember that you are accountable to the people of Dominica,” he said.

He said Lugay must remember to be a servant of the people and not their master.

“We want men of integrity, men who are transparent and men who will respect the constitution of Dominica,” he added.

Shortly after the appointment members of the UWP walked out of Parliament.

However this did not go down well with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

“We saw here Madam Speaker the swearing in of a senator who came just to get his name registered on the pay roll. So he can get his salary at the end of the month. I mean, we keep asking Madam Speaker, how many public and indeed private sector citizens can go to work, clock in, and clock out at the same time and get paid. The guys come here knowing full well that they’re coming in to clock in and clock out. To get a salary,” he said.

Meantime Leader of the UWP Ron Green says he is confident the newly sworn in Senator Danny Lugay will inject honor and pride in Parliament.

Green told parliament that Lugay will be a great asset in the house.

“The responsibility is ours to inject honor and pride in this house, the primary burden is on the shoulders of those across the aisle who lead now,” he said.

According to Green, “Lugay will deepen this parliament’s awareness for the need for a fully democratic parliament.”

Can you imagine the level of stupidity of this man which we called opposition leader, does he really understand the things that he says. Then again I guess he was happy to have his voice heard in parliament,POOR FELLA,atleast he got himself in the records of the house.
    “servant of the people”
Who does a senator serve mr John? i thought the role off the senator was mainly for parliamentary purposes. So how is he going to serve when eddie insist that you guys must be outside, and sadly you sas opposition leader has no say in the decision.
“Do not use the resources of Dominica to enrich himself” Strange again Mr John, tell me how is it that this senator is going to have state resources at his disposal in his capacity as opposition senator.WHAT FOOLISHNESS coming from a …….
Your problem is Mr John you must begin thinking for yourself and STOP repeating things that you heard which sound good in your ears.
For DA sake I do hope you learn Mr JOhn,there is more to it than allowing your idle hands to lead you stray on facebook.

    IRONY OF IRONIES:

“…respect the constitution of the commonwealth of Dominica, do not use the resources of the commonwealth of Dominica to enrich [YOUR]self… to remember that you are accountable to the people of Dominica”

How do we define someone who does not work, but collects pay?
Someone who continuously walks out of parliament, one created under the Constitution?

Someone who is accountable to ALL the people of Dominica, but who’s actions appear to only served SOME of the people of Dominica?

Hmm…well, i always knew that a spade, is a spade, is a spade!

Everything can be opened to interpretation – so i guess, obeying hte Constitution can be too. Just like the “alledged” actions of Skerrit? HELL YAH!!!!!!!!! Infact – PROVEN true.

How id Lugay going to “inject honor and pride in this house” if he only shows up to ensure he does not violate the rules of the house? How effective is he going to be in his capacity of an absent senator?

UWP never sees an opportunity they will not squander.

Danny Lugay will inject honor and pride in Parliament. Well that was a good way to start by following the three stoogges and walking out. That is what I call creating a first impression.

  10. A Christian Brother
    October 25, 2011

Danny Lugay, where is your christian conscience for collecting money you did not work for.You are a Christian – a born again soul at that. Where are your christian values in this regard. Its not all those who say Lord, Lord will enter his kingdom. Be the example Danny. Rather than hate Skerrit as you have so aptly demonstrated you must love him,. Pray for him and show him in love where he has gone wrong. Hating him will only heap damnation on you. Danny, preach the good news in and out of season, but use words only if you really have to. The moral of the story. Don’t tell me you are a christian, let me see christianity in the life you live. I am still looking for that Christlike attitude. When Christ got mad with the money changers, he chased them, out of the in love. Not with the kind of hate you are associated with today. Work for the pay you recieve. What will your legacy in the house be. A “walk in walk out member”. Remeber Eddy has served his time. His contributiosn to the debate in the house is well documented. What will yours be?

    • yes I
      October 26, 2011

You are so right about this issue of legacy. These younger guys are foolishly following eddie, ron, and norris, blindly i must add.At the end of their stint there will be nothing in the record to show that they were are part of the process. Can you imagine a young school girl from salisbury five year down the road doing some research in parliament going through the hansards searching for quotes from her parl rep..LOL.What a FOOL IS THIS Sprags John.Shame on my good friend Danny for getting himself mixed up in this foolishness.

I am old enough and experienced enough to know that parliamentary proceedings is just a darn formality. Every opposition that I’ve known in my life time staged walk outs. Mike and Rosie Douglas did it during Eugenia days , Brian Alleyne, Rosie et all did it during Edison days and now Edison and Ron are now carrying the lamp. How many of us can honestly say that the opposition truly influence government decisions in parliament.
When the cabinet makes a decision most times not even all the members are on board or even know about it yet the matter goes to parliament with the full support of the government side – some blind folded
Who really is the opposition? Most Dominicans were against the state house even if some people pretend to be in agreement for partisan sake and the government knew that Dominicans by reasonable thinking could not support the construction of a state house particularly in this present time yet the government went ahead. If 18-3 gave them the right to ignore the masses then why cry about the foolish behavior of the UWP zenzens who really have no voting numbers to alter cabinet decision.
Do we really believe that if Hector John goes to parliament then the government will truly cast an eye on Salibury when in 18 other locations the people are much to ashamed to cry out – farm access in every district in Dominica is deplorable. When Edison and Ron were in power they exhibited the same level of arrogance . Many of us will remember the arrogant comment by Edison – “ We on the stage now”
It is time to stop being paper dolls and see beyond these politicians Red , Green or frigging Blue. It is time for us to WFU and stop being so F*888888888 stupid.

“The responsibility is ours to inject honor and pride in this house”

Are the above words really correct so Danny just come to get inducted to get his pay and then perfom “walkoutmania”. Danny inject “honour and Pride” by letting your fellow bros know in order to do this they have to stay in the House and make meaningful contribution.

We will be watching you Danny! Inject some honlur and pride in their buttocks and jolt them to reality. Do you need an injection needle etc. I can give you one! Call me Danny boy! You know who I am!
