NCCU, LIME partner to provide technology loans

Head of Marketing at LIME Lorraine Mitchell

A new initiative birthed out of a collaborative effort between National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) and telecoms company LIME will allow NCCU members to access small loans for the purchase of computers and internet services.

The release was announced yesterday at an opening ceremony, coinciding with Credit Union Week, under the theme “All Together Better”. NCCU President Dexter Ducrey was grateful to LIME for partnering with the NCCU in this venture as they expand the products that they offer to members.

Ducrey said, “I want to thank LIME for offering to our members this opportunity. We have always tried to get new products for our members.”

Head of Marketing at LIME Lorraine Mitchell outlined some of the units that are available with financing from the NCCU and pointed out that the new undertaking would provide LIME with an avenue to achieving the goal of internet penetration throughout the length and breadth of Dominica.

Mitchell remarked, “The company sees as its responsibility to provide every child access to the internet super highway beyond the classroom through providing the service to them in the comfort of their home. This initiative with the NCCU provides LIME with the direct gateway to meeting this objective. This will see all members of the NCCU having easy and affordable access to LIME’s internet service as it focuses on making the [internet] access device more affordable to every Dominican.”

Members will have access to Lenovo computers from LIME including the Netbook-10e, Lenovo laptop, Lenovo all-in-one desktop, Lenovo CPU-15h or a Thinkpad Edge, through this loan programme.

General Manager of LIME Jeffery Baptiste pointed to the fact that his company’s goal is to support the sustainable development of Dominica and one of the central focus points of that goal is to support education.

“We think that ensuring that our people are adequately mentally nourished to take up the mantle of development of our country is key. Hence, we feel that this particular initiative speaks very strongly to that commitment. We are trying to ensure here that the average citizen has what is now considered to be a human right, that is, the seamless access to information,” stated Baptiste.

Totally agree with Tropical… We talk too much in DA… We must nourish our minds with productive material and stop all these stupid talk shows without value… note only the ones without value…This is an excellent initiative and LIME and NCCU should be applauded for that… Education is the key for mental emancipation… We must stop and think first before we talk… we talk then we think… reverse this cycle my people

my computer drowned in water during the flood that effected the West Coast couple weeks back! Now, i heard the PM saying that they will assist those affected. I am affected greatly because i use my computer to access my online studies. But when i tried to get assistance i understand that it is politically fed. I tried getting a computer from LIME to pay by monthly installments, they told me that is not allowed! Now NCCU tellin me take a loan for technology!

Writing at what cost will not assist. Pick up the telephone, send an e mail or make an appointment (preferred) to obtain all the information about the product which will include free loan protection insurance.

At what cost may I ask? Is it an arm and a leg?
