VF Inc will be hosting its 4th annual Youth Series 2012, from July 23 – 28, 2012, from 9:00am to 4:00pm under the theme “Empowering Our Youth for a Better Future” and targets the Youth from age 10 – 19. This year, our focus will be on “Building Healthy Family Relationships”.

The objectives of the Youth Series are to:

Assist the youth in discerning their life purpose
Explore issues of self-esteem and self-confidence
Provide an avenue for self-expression and determination
Provide strategies for coping with peer pressure
Provide insights and strategies for managing adversity
Encourage and inspire the youth to be ‘the best that they can be”
Prepare the youth for the workplace and higher education
The topics include Building Healthy Relationships, Healthy & Wellness, Mapping our Communities, Leadership Development, Creative Writing, Learning Styles, Preparing for the Workplace, Impromptu Speaking, Self Worth, Sex and Sexuality, Coping with Peer Pressure, Financial Planning, Managing Your Money. The methodology fosters interaction and student active participation and includes field trips, panel discussions, role-play, lectures and story telling. During the break, we encourage play including cricket, football, dominoes, board games, and skipping. The students will be placed into three groups: Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors.

July 27th, from 9am to 1:00pm, is dubbed Open/Career Day and parents are specially invited to accompany their children to the various booths to explore career options. In the afternoon there will be a talent component in the Closing Ceremony and parents are also invited to be part of the Talent Show.

The Youth Series 2012 culminates with a Hike of Segment 5 of the Waitikubuli National Trail from Castle Bruce to Pond Casse, with a picnic at the Emerald Pool on July 28th.

The cost for the one week Youth Series is $100, and this covers, meals, material and transportation from Roseau to the venue and Castle Bruce for the Hike.

We encourage parents and guardians to register their children early. We also encourage persons to sponsor a child in their families, neighbourhood or general sponsorship of a child whose parents find it difficult to meet the cost.
