ALIVE WORD: Charge the atmosphere with God

Ministers Wilbert and Jacqueline Richardson

“Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.  For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.”  Proverbs 8:6-7

Many times as Christians we underestimate the power and authority that God has given through the use of our tongue.  God has given us a tongue and we should use it wisely.  What are you using your tongue to do, bless or curse?  “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”  James 3:10

A man that has an unruly tongue, can be his worst enemy.  The word states in Psalm 34:13 “Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.”  Many times the devil gets blamed for situations that are caused by unruly tongues.  What do you speak when things are not going right in your life?  What do you say about God when it seems like things are falling apart around you?  What do you say when your enemies are raging war against you?  Hear what David said Psalm 39:1” I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.”  When you are tempted to sin especially when slander, lies and rumours are spreading like wild fire against you, do as David did, take heed to your ways and bridle your mouth.  Resist the temptation to open your mouth and speak words of death into the atmosphere against yourself or others.

Some people are like agents of the devil.  “They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips.”  Psalm 140:3  Among the seven things that the Lord hates is a lying tongue.  “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”  Proverbs 6:16-19  People sometimes think that this only refers to someone who lies on you but it can also refer to if you speak forth lies on yourself, meaning; if you say things that are not in accordance to God’s word.

You do not have to speak everything you know.  You do not have to tell everything you hear; for many times what you hear is not even true.  Give your tongue a rest!  Bite your lip if you have you and just shut up for a change!  “The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.”  Proverbs 15:2  More so, if you do not want people to use their tongues against you then do not use your tongue against others.  “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”  Proverbs 21:23  “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.”  James 1:26  Sometimes it is not so much what people say but it is important to know if you should speak, when you should speak and how to speak.

An unruly tongue can hinder you from seeing good days – for if as soon as God is about to come through for you, you say negative things, you can delay or cancel your blessings.  “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile.”  1 Peter 3:10  Remember, Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Speak forth the Word.  Give someone a word of hope, a word of encouragement.  Encourage yourself in the Lord by reminding yourself of the promises of God  “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary.”  Isaiah 50:4a  Charge the atmosphere!

Things may not be the way that you would like them to be or people may not be who you think they should be but speak forth the word of God over your life, your family and friends, the situations facing you and the people with whom you interact.

Charging the atmosphere with the word of God brings change and transformation.  Speak forth the Word without fear.  Speak forth the word, not wavering.  Speak forth the word!  Speak forth the word and watch God work mightily on your behalf.
