Young woman has manic-like symptoms

Dear Bella: I find myself being very depressed lately, a lot more than the usual. I used to feel that way when I was a teenager; however I find this depression has taken a toll on me.

It affects my relationship with others as well- be it intimate or a mere friendship. I can’t explain the reason for these feelings, and the times I get it are not during menstruation, still I feel real moody, and usually want to be alone. I even think this has led to my insomnia. Yet generally I am a positive person, who knows what I want and sometimes I just feel like my dreams are not being fulfilled.

Depressed woman.

Dear Depressed woman,

The reason for your depression may be more of a psychological thing than emotional. I say this because you said you’ve felt like this in your teens up until now. At times women are moody within their menstrual cycle, but we can rule out that factor because you feel this way out of that period.

While I am not a therapist or psychologist you sound like you have hypomania. Your explanation of your feelings sounds similar to a manic person. According to depression-guide.com, Hypomania is abnormality of mood but even normal euphoria and mania. Characterized by optimism, pressure of speech and activity, and decreased need for sleep. Some people have increased creativity while others demonstrate poor judgment and irritability.

Hypomania is a less severe case of Bipolar Disorder, which makes one take risks more often than the ‘ordinary’ person. To be sure of what’s really going on with you please seek some medical attention, like making an appointment to see a psychiatrist or psychoanalyst.

Depressed Woman: You are not alone. Depression hits many people. It is no respect of persons. I am a minister and I have known preachers who have suffered from depression. One type of depression is what «i call situational depression. It is caused by a loss or a setback in life. It could be the loss of a job, a lost relationship, the loss of a loved one, etc. Usually this kind of depression lasts about three months. it helps to get sufficient rest and do the things you enjoy doing to keep your mind off your troubles. The other type of depression is clinical depression. It may have no obvious cause and can last much longer. Actually, it is caused when the brain does not produce enough of a certain chemical to give us the normal sense of wellbeing. There are medications that can usually relieve this kind of depression so if the problem is severe or seems to last too long you should see your doctor. There is an natural herbal remedy called St. John`s Wort that is very effective in some cases and may be available at the pharmacy or drug store. It has been found to be as good as some of the manufactured drugs. You should talk to your doctor first before using any medications including St. John`s Wort and follow his or her instructions. Always remind yourself that you did not ALWAYS have this depression and you will not ALWAYS have it. It came and it will go! This is a good time to open your heart and life to God. He is the ultimate healer. Many people find it helpful to read from the Book of Psalms. Pray and as God to give you verses of comfort and healing! Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist. http://www.livinghopeministries.ca

Call on Jesus, he will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you know not…. only Jesus can deliver you and bring you peace and fulfillment… Jesus loves you and can be the best friend than any other can. Trust him to see you through.. rest in his arms and just talk to him. He understands and knows your pain….
