NATURAL HEALING: The dangers of drinking cold water

Lucia John, PhD

According to Natural Law, our normal body temperature is about 98.6 degrees F. If we raise that temperature a few degrees, the body starts to show signs of distress, and we say we have a fever. We try hard to return to homeostasis or normal functioning.

When we drink ice-cold water, juice, or any ice-cold fluids, we create the basis for chronic diseases.
If you purchase a bowl of cow’s blood at the market to make some famous black pudding, and you put a cube of ice in this blood, observe what happens. This fluid, warm blood becomes thick, sticky, cool, or cold blood and appears to be like jello as it clots. This is what happens in our bodies when we drink cold water or juice or any ice-cold fluids like beer etc.

The body is about 70% fluid, and any fluids taken into the body becomes part of that 70%. Knowing this, we have a responsibility to put into our bodies, only drinks and foods that will enhance its proper functioning. A body that cannot circulate its blood is like an uninviting swimming pool in which moss and bacteria grow. The blood may be thick, unable to flow properly to the extremities of the body, the hands and feet begin to feel numb and hurt, the toes begin to hurt, the toenails lose their shine and may begin to decay. The heart labours to pump the blood throughout the body, and the lungs fight to keep up. The legs may swell and become dark, when blood cannot be efficiently pumped back up to the heart.

When the blood is free from toxins and flowing freely and properly, we can then liken the blood to an inviting swimming pool, clear and clean. It generates happiness and perfect health, energy and creativity. This individual contributes maximum to the health and wellbeing of others in an innocent, natural way.

Illness may have many symptoms, but it is a process as we go from perfect health to ill health. If we understand the process of Perfect Health, we will recognize when something undesirable is happening in our bodies or minds and we will not allow it to become chronic before seeing our doctor. We need to change our fascination with disease to fascination with perfect health; then our lives will mirror our fascination and create it.

There are other things that make the blood thick and toxic: little or no exercise, little or no sunlight especially early in the mornings, junk foods and eating at the wrong times, especially late at nights and going to sleep with a full stomach. It settles and ferments instead of being digested and absorbed. Wrong breathing habits which cause carbon dioxide to back up in the lungs and pollute the blood. Taking hallucinogenic drugs of any kind and also the use and abuse of alcohol, have similar effects. Trauma and abuse, even on the mental and emotional levels will give similar results.

How to get rid of this undesirable condition:

• Visit your doctor as soon as you notice that there is something that should be corrected.
• Take warm and or hot fluids
• Take regular walks
• Start an exercise program
• Eat smaller food portions and eat more often to generate and conserve energy
• Have your blood pressure checked regularly
• Research, investigate, inquire, be curious to know more about yourself and your condition
• Do not be afraid to find out if something is wrong with you
• Have regular checkups with your doctor

Expect perfect health. It is your birthright!
It is up to you to work towards Perfect Health, the state in which the body, mind, behavior, and spirit function as one – in Wholeness. In that state, illness cannot exist or take hold. It is a state of constant cheerfulness, where positivity and right thoughts, words, and actions are the norm.

On the contrary, when ill health is attacking the body, the mind becomes unstable and negative. The nervous system is restless and also unstable, and we can’t be still for one moment. We can’t resist talking constantly, and cannot stop having negative thoughts. The emotions may be out of control, we experience anxiety attacks, panic attacks, depression, fear, phobia and the like.

Persons experiencing the above symptoms need to learn to relax and meditate. Even to pray, one needs a quiet and peaceful mind. The immediate need is to quieten the mind. Because of the intimate connection between mind and body, when the mind is quiet, the body will quieten down also and we experience inner peace, inner silence, inner stillness. In this state, the entire body becomes alkaline and illness cannot exist in an alkaline environment. With regular practice of stillness, silence day and night, morning and evening, the body takes the habit of functioning in a healthy rested creative but dynamic way, and inner happiness – bliss is the result. Such persons contribute maximum to the creation of an ideal society, free from crime and negative deviant tendencies.

It is possible to create such a society, as it is the individuals who collectively contribute their positive thoughts, words, actions, and intentions in a simple natural way to the collective consciousness of the nation.

I can’t say what this woman (Dr) is saying is absolutely wrong. However, i don’t believe what she said about cold water blah blah blah. Too much of everything is bad. Taking cold water every now and then is not good for the body. But she can’t tell me that a person who returns home from work in a very hotty sun and sweating profusely should still boil some water before drinking. In this kinda situation, a very chilled water is the best option.
I know I can’t be cold and still go for cold drinks; warm or room temperature liquids are the best here.

Most people commenting and praising this Dr. are/were addicted to cold/Iced water and I think that’s why this whole message is/was useful for them.
But in a situation whereby i am not addicted to it, i only take cold drinks when the need arises, i don’t think this whole fallacy is meant for me.

I do and my pregnant wife too. I have decided to be drinking warm, tepid and room-temperature water as a norm before I saw this sight today. It’s been up to a month now. And guess what? My belly fat reduced noticeably…and its still decreasing.

@Chidozie Eze, I congratulate you on stopping the cold water and starting to drink warm water instead. The digestive system can digest it immediately and also uses the hot water to wash off toxin from the body so you win both ways. Better digestion and less toxin. All the toxins it stored in the liver and around the waist area are flushed out and you enjoy better health. I’m very happy for you. Please keep it up. Teach this to your children also because they learn the bad habits in childhood.

If you drink a cold drink, it quickly gets warmed by the stomach, so
this advice is just rubbish. A cold drink will not cool down your
whole body. Your bidy will warm the drink. If you put a glass of
Ice in a hot room, the woom will melt the ice. The ice will not cool
      down the room.

some how it doesnot make sense , put an ice cube on ur hand and see how fast it melts , same is for body and inner body is hotter then outter , even if we eat ice , it will melt in few seconds even before reaching stomach or throat it will start loosing its cool and in few second the body heat will make the ice or cold water in to normal temp if u have heard of transfer of heat in physics it travels from hot to cold , inside our body there alot of heat , cube of ice or even bottle of cold water will not stand for few seconds or min till it warms up too , iuts totally a hoax that cold water harms and freezes stomach or arteries .

Who gave this lady a Phd?? in Phd eating the blood of a death cow is a good deal right? you should be lock up in jail for deceiving people……..
Our bodies do not expend calories when absorbing cold water. In order for water to hydrate the body, it need not be at room temperature, or even at the same temperature as our bodies’. As a matter of fact, the American College of Sports Medicine’s Position Stand on Exercise and Fluid Replacement states that fluid needs to be cooler than ambient temperature, meaning between 59 – 72°F. Colder fluids leave the stomach more quickly than warmer ones, allowing faster dehydration. During hot weather, when we tend to lose extra fluids, beverages in this temperature range will have a cooling effect on the body. Drinking cool beverages can help to cool us from the inside. Also, there’s no need to worry: cold foods and beverages do not harm any of our internal organs, so we can feel free to enjoy them.
By the way, sweating is another way to help…

Dear Dr, John, thank you for this information, which l notice is commonly taught in Asian traditions and maybe others. I recently have been drinking only warm drinks throughout the day and have experienced a host of benefits such as, better elimination, feeling calmer, warmer, more centered etc. I still drink 3-4 glasses of cold water with a lemon and ginger first thing in the morning though, upon awakening, as a daily cleanse, to support my liver. I do notice that l get cold feet after drinking this in the morning, which by experience l know would not happen if l drank the mixture warm. I do not warm the water as l do not want to destroy the Vit C contained in the citrus. Would you comment? Many thanks, Blanche

    • Dr. Lucia John
      February 20, 2019

Hi Blanche, Drinking warm water with lime will not destroy your Vitamin C. We are talking about WARM water, not hot water. Try the warm water and you will see great results. All the best to you and your health. God bless.

It is embarrassing for you to compare a bowl of cow blood, a dead, inert substance, to a fully functional, reactive digestive system. If cold water made our blood coagulate we’d all already be dead. You should be ashamed selling lies for profit.

If it ain’t at least cool I am not drinking it!Nothing worse than warm water. Now in the winter It is advised not eat snow because that can make core body temp drop only in a survival situation would I drink heated water.Snow must be melted first.Otherwise forget it.

    June 16, 2014

This story is old but I am commenting becuz I must say that at times I feel cold or cool drinks are essential to my feeling better and other times warm is. If I am cold I don’t like cold drinks, they do make me feel colder than I want and not comfortable. However I drink a lot of cool or cold drinks becuz they also tend to relieve inflammation in my body. Please don’t ask me how do I know this, I just can feel this happen. I also can feel it HALT the excessive sweating on a very hot humid day, or even if I am having a hot flash due to menopause and my age. I do feel it thickens the blood temporarily a bit and cools the skin to drink cool/cold water. For me it is a pretty good feeling! I also think drinking something warm feels nice when I am chilly. Of course this is warming my body, slightly thinning the blood/juices temporarily. I never drink anything too hot as I feel this actually hurts my esophagus but I do not know this for sure, I can just feel it in myself. Balance is important for me. But I think in general I need to lean a bit more towards cold than warm foods or drinks as it keeps the inflammation down in my body. I also want to mention that for me I can not splash cold water on my face after washing it as I actually get dry skin from doing this. So you see, the reason I mention this is that yeah, temperatures do have effect on us. Pay closer attention or wait until you start getting older like me and you will noticed this is ever so true. Some illnesses are helped by cold therapy and others by heat and others by both. I am a both. LOL

So… How exactly do mammals survive in cold whether? Do they build fires to warm their water before drinking? Seriously. It amazes me how many idiots are in the comments section…

“why do you think ice cream cause headache”

There are a billion articles on the internet on the science of brainfreeze.

The back of your throat has nerves. When those nerves feel cold, the muscles constrict giving the sensation of “brain freeze”. This generally happens when you eat or drink a cold drink too quickly.

You can actually CURE a brain freeze simply by pressing your thumb to the roof of your mouth, thus warming up the nerves.

You farce. You are literally lying to people with this false information.

Don’t be ridiculous, drinking cold water will not harm you at all. Whenever you drink cold water, you get a ‘brainfreeze’ signal from your stomach to prevent you from consuming more cold liquid as to prevent self-induced hypothermia.

This voodoo B.S. should not be left up here, as it will just end up misguiding more gullible people, with the idea that a good ‘ole cup of water will cause them a traumatic death.

If cold water was so deadly, then why isn’t this information known to everyone? Why don’t people die when they get hypothermia?

This advice is as effective as asking people to eat a handful of lead every day, after you eat. Like your information, it will only make people more dumb, and less understanding of the world around them.

As for the ‘curdled cow blood to make dat famuhs blood clot puddin’, Did you know that all blood clots after being exposed to air after a short period of time to prevent yourself from bleeding to death from a simple cut? These things are the natural defenses of our bodies that exist to prevent us from dying of ridiculous events. Kid accidentally cuts himself with scissors? Dead.

At least you now know why blood naturally clots, regardless as to weather it is hot or cold. as another person before had stated, if our blood curdled like old milk whenever we drank something cold, then how do we manage to survive at all in the research facilities in the south pole, or the Russians in Siberia?

As for food in your stomach fermenting and stuff when you sleep? HAHAHAHA, such blasphemy. Like the heart and endocrine system, they work independent of our control. does your heart stop beating when you go to sleep? Although it does slow down because of there being no need for it to be active, as we are at rest/sleeping, it does not stop.

The same is for your digestive system.

What does creating a utopia have anything to do with drinking cold water? (bottom of your article).

Do you even know what homeostasis even means? Gosh, lady. You might get more credit if you actually used legitimate material.

People, please don’t be gullible and do some research of your own. Don’t believe whatever some single article, but look up multiple sources to prove your information first before you put your faith in it.

Honestly, Wikipedia is more reliable than this guy any day.

I woke up two days ago at about. 4AM.cvs walked to the fridge and drank some ice cold water. Almost immediately I felt the water trickle down cold. And as I went back to lay down I’ve been coughing and getting worse as time progresses. I feel hot and cold. Very disoriented. Cold flu like symptoms.. so absolutely believe this is true.

I know of a friend who has had swollen feet and then feet and legs for the past 6 years. Things got so bad for her, that her doctor spoke about amputating one of her toes to save her foot. Luckily, I saw this article and told her about it. She was getting the brain freeze, the hand and arm freeze and cramps at nights. We never realized what was causing it.

We discovered this article about 2 months ago and decided to contact Dr. John. She advised my friend to stop taking ice-cold water and take teas instead. Hot, warm and room temperature. My friend loved her ice-cold water and juice and thought she could never get over it.

With the thought of amputation haunting her, she made an effort, and within 2 weeks, she stopped completely. Dr. John guided and coached her on the phone and on Skype. She also sent her some of her home-made balm that literally stopped the cramping in her legs and hands and arms. The pain is gone and the dark, black color of her feet and right leg is almost gone. Now within a month or so of applying the balm and just following simple instructions, and following up with her own physician, she is much better off. There is no more talk of amputation. She is delighted, because till then, nothing had worked.

For you Mr. Don’t Be Fooled, you can keep fooling yourself, but please don’t fool others.

When you say that a brain freeze means stop drinking the ice-cold drink, do you include the men who drink 10 to 15 Icy-cold beers and after a few years they can’t wear shorts anymore because they have swollen, dark and or ulcerated feet or leg (s)? Speak for yourself, but don’t mislead the people especially where health is concerned.

    August 27, 2013

    Oh Wow!
This article was bad. I don’t normally comment on these things, but this so-called “Dr. John” doesn’t know half of what she is talking about. The half she is spreading is incorrect, irrelevant, and she should be embarrassed. Good thing the info isn’t dangerous. Nonetheless, here are the basic facts one reading this should retain:
-yes, room temp water is better absorbed…but cold water leaves the stomach faster so it can be warmed and used to hydrate.
-no, cold water isn’t dangerous. If you drink too much of anything too cold, you will experience “brain freeze”. -a painful message sent from your stomach to your brain that will prevent you from ingesting more cold fluids for a time. It is a very powerful/painful feeling, and you will find it nearly impossible to consume more cold fluid until the sensation goes away. As previously mentioned, your body’s core will quickly warm it, so don’t take brain freeze to mean that you’ve seriously harmed yourself, or caused a reaction anything similar to the ice cube in cow blood analogy. It’s simply an inherited neurological trait every human has to prevent self-induced hypothermia.
-the cow blood comparison is irrelevant and has become rather funny. It is certainly a testament to the author’s ignorance.
-Blood is always alkaline (if you made it that far into the article without becoming distracted by the author’s incoherence)
7.35-7.45 is pH of blood, buffered by the bicarbonate buffering system. If your blood became acidic (or even neutral at 7.0) you are probably dead.

-i didn’t even want to write this much, but my God Dr. John…you probably have good intentions, but you first need to learn the facts.

I’m a doctor in the states and what she is saying makes a lot of sense when you understand pathophysiology. It’s a different way of thinking that the Allopathic medicine doesn’t endorse, but that doesn’t make it wrong. Most MD’s have some time of pathology whether it’s HTN, obesity, hyperlipidemia so I have learned to be open minded and accept health information from different cultures especially those that have been in practice longer than our own. I suspect if you think you have the answer you are probably wrong. Don’t be led by your own ego or insecurities.

In nature God did not give human being water to drink the only water that we have must be from the fruit, we cannot drink from the ocean or from a river, unless we have to wait for winter to open our mouth to heaven and pray God to send us some warm cloud

Medical research shows the following health benefits when cold water therapy is practiced over a period of 4 weeks:

Increase metabolism – Your body has to heat up to keep warm this in turn burns calories and helps in weight loss.

Increase immunity – cold water stimulates the release of a substance called cytokines, which help improve overall immunity and health.

Improve circulation – your heartbeat and breathing increases during the cold water therapy thus causing your body to circulate the blood better.

Improve pains – Your body releases endorphins during the cold water therapy. Endorphins are a natural pain reliever as well as a mood enhancer.

  25. Dr. Subramanian

What Lucia John has written is UTTER NONSENSE. She talks about “homeostasis” but does not understand its significance. She is doing a disservice to vedic science by propagating her misguided notion in the cyberspace. The plain fact is when you drink a cold beverage, although your mouth and esophagus might feel the chill, the cold liquid will warm up to the body temperature in a few minutes by the warm blood circulating along the stomach wall. That is what a homeothermic species will do. If you feed a snake a quart of ice-cold water it might die soon because it is a cold-blooded animal.

Now this cow blood turning into a jello when ice cubes are placed in it is an irrelevant argument. First of all the blood has been out there (not preserved cold like in the blood bank with some preservatives). The cow blood, if it turns into a jello, has a natural tendency to form a clot when out of its body for a prolonged time (take your own blood out and leave it out for a while “Dr.” John and see what happens. Pl do not mislead a lot of gullible people. I will say just this: You will not scare sensible folks by discouraging the drinking of cold liquids. However, drinking room temperature or warm liquids are not harmful either. You can drink a steaming cup of coffee and the stomach will not start boiling because the homeothermic ability of the body will bring the temperature of the stomach back to 37 deg C soon.

I thank God for this information. For years, I did what everybody else was doing; drinking glasses of ice cold juice with my meals, and whenever I am too hot, I gulp down ice-cold water. I even got up in the night to drink water from the fridge.

First, I started having brain freezes and I thought that it was some new sickness. Then my hands began to cramp and hurt like crazy. My legs also got swollen whenever I would stand for a long time.
The swelling would not hurt, but I noticed that under my feet started getting hard and the skin just kept peeling off.

I contacted Dr. Lucia John after I read her articles on this column. First she determined my body type which was intriguing, because she was very accurate. My body seemed to be burning up even in an air conditioned room. She recommended how to balance the fire in my body and within 2 or 3 days, the burning stopped. The uncontrollable anger, annoyance, uncontrollable foul language and impatience seemed to come to a halt too.

I thought I could never stop drinking ice-cold water and juice because I seemed to enjoy it so much, not knowing that it was actually killing me. I did stop it within the first week or two. This was a miracle, believe me!

Even my relationships have improved, because I am no longer finding faults in everything and everyone. I am much more patient now, calm and easy going.

My legs were swollen all the time, and turning black with lack of circulation. This too is almost back to normal with Dr. John’s Herbal balm, massages and care. All this at a fraction of the cost that I spent over the years trying hard to get my health back.

I just want to tell you out there, there’s hope.Don’t let Ice cold water and juice rob you of your life and replace it with early death.

Thank you Dr. John and I thank God for you also.

I HOPE MY COMMENT WILL HELP OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE TO MAKE BETTER CHOICES.

I am only 19 years old, but suffered from cramping hands and arms. This is very painful and it happened very often. I also have occasional swollen feet and legs, swollen and painful right knee, and frequent ‘brain-freeze’

I used to eat about 4 to 6 ice pops every day. Grown-ups sell the thing right here at my School and in the supermarkets and shops, so every opportunity I get to buy an ice pop, I took it. My body felt hot and on fire most of the time even when I am in a cool, air-conditioned place.

I could not understand what was happening to me until my mother read this article and contacted Dr. John. I have been to many doctors in the past 3 years without much success with the painful cramping of my hands and left side of my head. I was also obese and could not lose the weight no matter what I did. I thought I would never get to find out what was happening to me.

It was difficult stopping the ice pops, because I think I was addicted to it, but I did stop with Dr. John’s recommendations of diet change, lifestyle change. Knowing myself better has helped. I now know that I have a Fire/Earth body type, know the needs of my body, and how to avoid overheating which is what was happening to me and basically why I took a liking to the ice pops. I thought ice pops were the solution to my heat problem but it was killing me and fast. I thank God that I was able to stop all cold foods and drinks. I now know how to keep my body balanced. I also started Transcendental Meditation and did the Ayurvedic treatment. I still have slight headaches which are nothing like the head freezes I used to get daily. My feet and legs do not swell or hurt anymore. Another thing is that I stopped sweating. I would be hot but would not sweat. Now, I enjoy sweating.

I did a detox treatment with Dr. John and I can tell you, God will bless her for her Comfort Balm. She makes it herself from local fresh herbs. I have never tried anything that wipes out pain and swelling like that. I am now my normal weight. I lost 60lbs in about 3 months. I think it was because of knowing the rules of eating rather than dieting. We have so much to learn about ourselves…

Big mistake is drink whatever 30 minutes before and after meal. If you really want do drink (i guess 90% people doing this) its better to drink warm fluids. Same as if you have fever, drink warm fluids. Because cold fluids gain your body more tempeture in this cases – unfavorable and through your esophagus you get “cold – disease”. In really hot wheater it would be really nice to drink extra cold drinks, but it carries a risk of cold neck, in bad cases to angina. BUT if there are normal terms best is drink cold water max to 10°, best 4-5°. Calories to heat up? Yes, but its on measurable limit! Nonsense if someone talk, you are burning calories, your weight decreases.. You must drink fresh filtered water. its taste as from the well of the forest.
Human beings can adapt to arctic cold or to Sahara heat and survive many years. On a cold night, if we are out and we drink or eat something icy cold, what happens?? Well nothing, Eskimo love it ice water in icy weater and they are most healthy guys in the world with japanese who didnt know milk and pastry to 70. past century. Here in my country almost eveyone say – warm water is good, dont drink cold water, it makes you harm. Saying fat and often sick and tired people. Its damn tough urban legen! I am sorry for my bad english

Homeostasis: balance between inner and outer environments tries to keep inner temperature stable for the optimum functioning of the body, mind and mind/body coordination.
    http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Homeostasis
Human beings can adapt to arctic cold or to Sahara heat and survive many years. On a cold night, if we are out and we drink or eat something icy cold, what happens? We cannot warm ourselves back to our normal temperature with ease. We start to be uncomfortable and shiver because inside is too cold.

If we are in a cold environment, we cover our bodies to keep our heat within the body. The skin protects us very well, but if the climate is too cold, we need to help the skin to keep in our heat so we wear coats, etc. If we go to a cold country some persons must become accustomed to the cold temperature within at least two to three months in order for them to be comfortable in the cold. if not, this person will have a hard time keeping warm.

When we feel nice and warm, it is because the inner environment inside the body is balanced with the outer environment, the climate. If we feel too warm, we sweat to cool us down. If we are too cold, we shiver to warm ourselves up.

Icy water in a warm body is not the best that we can do for good circulation. Most of the chronic illnesses involve circulation problems in one way or the other. We cannot see what is happening inside our bodies, we can only feel the effects.
If only we could see what is happening when there are circulation problems, we would do everything to bring circulation back to normal.

When the blood circulates properly, the individual is happy and healthy, when the circulation is not right, the body slows down, have low energy and bacteria grows in the inner environment, toxins accumulate. One feels dis-ease or dis comfort. if this goes on without balancing, disease settles in. The blood gets as if too thick and the heart has a hard time pumping properly. Bad circulation seem to be the basis of most, if not all diseases.

part of the things you said are true but not everything you’re saying is true/right/correct. too much of everything is bad. Taking cold or iced water frequently is not good for the body. But do not say it is a bad thing or unhealthy to take cold water.
You talked about Icy water in a warm body is not the best that we can do, are you now suggesting that i drink warm water when my body both inside and out is hot/warm?
Do you know how that’s gonna feel deep in my stomach?

I come from a part of the world that is very hot and so resolving ti cold liquids is something i take delight in. Though i know it is not good for my body because i always have d chills, cough and cold when i take it in, i seem to be addicted to it. I believe it is not good for my body and daddy always tells me that too. But i have no reason that is convincing enough to get me to stop. Well, i can say i have found the light now. Thank u dr john for the enlightenment you have brought on board. I appreciate the fact that you have taken time to research on this subject matter. I agree perfectly well to your point of view. But pertaining to the cow blood issue, i have doubts about it. A skeptic to your article way up the comment stated that blood coagulates when exposed to air and from your point of view, it would mean nobody can live in cold temperatures. Well, with the exception of that aspect, i think you have than a great work. I would however be grateful if you throw mor light on the cow blood aspect. Whether ppl agree with you or not, its all good because u are encouraged by d ppl who agree and motivated to do better by those who dont. Kudos to your effort Dr. John!

Hot or cold drinks, anyone? Before I found this article, hot or cold drinks has been an and off argument between me and my partner and it extended lately to our family friends. Not nasty arguments, mind. Also, one of the lady friend regularly mentions to me about her toes and nails being numb and dead-looking. Sometimes it is her trouble finding hard to breath or chest pains. And she is one of those who put ice cubes in her glass of diet coke even if it’s a chilly day. Last night as we sat eating dinner together, the argument came about. I found myself being the only person who, by nature, can’t drink cold drinks unless it’s really a hot weather. So this morning as I’d like to find out why my body refuses to take cold drinks, I found this article instead and it seems to go in my favour. In addition, grannnies in the far east where I came from do tend to advice us that whenever you feel unwell, drink warm/hot water. I have tried this many times and it does work, particularly when it’s constipation (not when I’ve got fever, of course). So, by experience – mine and others – I’d say Dr John makes sense. Probably not a hi-tech-science-based-article, but are experiences not good enough evidence? 8-O

My wife believes the same, or close to the same as the person who wrote the article.
In my opion, I would like to see some scientific studies to substantiate the claims written.
I have found nothing in my search supporting these claims.
As for the cow’s blood comment:

If you purchase a bowl of cow’s blood at the market to make some famous black pudding, and you put a cube of ice in this blood, observe what happens. This fluid, warm blood becomes thick, sticky, cool, or cold blood and appears to be like jello as it clots.

I am sure she is correct in this part of her statement, but for the next part:

This is what happens in our bodies when we drink cold water or juice or any ice-cold fluids like beer etc.

This is an incorrect statement as we are not placing an ice cube into our blood but into our stomachs and our bodies are designed to maintain a constant temperature and when we drink something cold our bodies will warm it up in a matter of minutes. Also, blood clots when it is exposed to air to stop bleeding. If her statement was true then why does our blood not coagulate when it is cold outside. I would imagine with her type of reasoning then we could not survive in cold temperatures ever. Clearly that is not the case.

      William:
Will you please contact the author of the article and point out the fallacy in her article. You said when someone drinks a cold liquid the stomach will warm it up to body temperature in a matter of minutes. Absolutely right. This author (has a Ph.D—in what—voodoo science)—I am ashamed she brings disrepute to Ph.D degree holders.
She is aware of homeostasis but she does not know its implication. The body has an equilibrium temperature and if you make any change in it abruptly the body will react to counter that change. That means if you drink a glass of cold water the contents of the stomach and its wall will get colder (than its regular temperature) but the blood vessels around the wall of the stomach will transfer heat to the contents and bring the temperature back up to normal. Likewise if you drink a steaming cup of coffee quickly the temperature of the stomach will rise quickly but the blood will go to work soon to take that heat away and exhaust it out as sweat thereby bringing the temperature back down to normal.

This “Ph.D” author should be stripped of her degree or else she is going to mislead lots of innocent and ignorant folks.

    Dr. Lucia John

Your article is an excellent one and was greatly appreciated. The doubters and the denouncers are in dire need of such knowledge. What they do not comprehend they will doubt and deny. This is to be expected as in all things. A few will agree with you. Those who disagree does not mean they are correct. They are in need of this learning process. We cannot please everyone and those without understanding who also give people who write common sense thumbs down. They project their lack of intelligence.
I also read on health matters. So far, so good, I am older than some of them, still healthy and I do not take medication. I will avoid it at every cost, not because of monetary cost but for my health and continued one.
As I stated, at no time, do I drink ice-cold water. Thanks be to God. Frankly, I do not like ice-cpld wter and drinks. It is hard on thhe body system. Reason being is that your advice on this article is one of the ones I try to consistently practice. It is natural healing.
God bless you. Keep on writing your columns. You may not reach everyone; they may not all agree with you but there will be a few who will agree with you. This is sufficient. We cannot please everyone, some to their detriment and unhealthiness, leading to their demise and some early ones because they do not know what is good for them. I will always respond to what is dear to my heart and what keeps me healthy. This column is one of it which I am passionate about.

Everyone has a right to his/her opinion. This does not mean that the “No’s are correct”. I am informing you she is not taking rubbish. Those people do not utilize their basic common sense. It depicts a lack of basic common sense, intelligent and knowledge.
Have you seen any programs about those animals, especially the wild ones, bears, leopards, lions, wolves etc.? I have seen them. They act better than ‘some’ human beings.

This article is absolute nonsense and this so-called “Dr.” should do some research before even writing such an article. I did research myself and I did not find any credible source to confirm what was said in that article…not even one non-credible source even mentioned that drinking cold water had such an effect. First of all, when we drink water it does not go directly to our blood stream so that cow thing is already out the window without even mentioning the other 101 things wrong with using it as a justification for her point. Secondly, the warmth of our body starts to change the temperature of the water from the time it enters our mouth. By the time it reaches the blood stream it is at a warmer temperature from when it first entered the mouth. I do not think people who consider themselves to be doctors should mislead or try to scare people for no reason at all. I would really love to know where she got that information from and I hope it’s not at the market where the farmers were making black pudding. Come better than that Lucia John…smh

Some people will think that seeing and experiencing is believing. Then the credible source you are looking for is to stay out in the hot sun and for hours and go in, open the fridge, stand up in front of the opened door, get some ice cold water and drink it straight from the fridge. If nothing happens to you, thank God and your lucky stars.
I know better. I used to drink water straight from the fridge but no more. Let me inform you further, I may be older than you are. I do not take medication. I only take supplements and do my utmost to eat nutritious foods. I hardly ever drink coke. The last time I drank coke was a year ago and it was at a friend’s BBQ party after Caribana, in some rum – rum and coke. My preference if there is any, is whisky and ginger ale. Just a means of socializing with friends. This weekend I will be going there and may have some. Also ginger ale or sprite.
So, if you think what you read is foolishness, continue with ‘your foolishness of denouncing’ what the Doctor stated and you may just find out someday about ‘your foolishness’. Some of you have to get sick prior to confirming what you read and heard is factual. Some die and they never find out what hit them and made them sick. You may be one of those.
For those who socialize, they will sit or stand for a while prior to having a cold drink. In the meantime, their body heat temperature will drop. Even tough they are not aware of it, then, it is OK to drink a cold drink and with ice. Utilize your common sense if you have any. Think! Think! Think! It is a mark of intelligence.

There are things which have not yet been “scientifically” proved. That doesn’t mean they are not right. Science will prove them, eventually.
Yes, when we drink chilled stuff, the body does bring the temperature to normal. But in the process, I am sure lot of damage is done to the body, especially the lungs.
I have been drinking chilled beer for quite some time now. And now I feel there’s something wrong with my lungs. I start to pant at the slightest of exertions.
I remember on one chilly winter night I was drinking chilled beer and immediately my legs began to rattle uncontrollably.
I believe whatever Dr. John has said is right. A relative of mine suffers bouts of breathlessness. She also was very fond of eating and drinking cold stuff.
Consuming very cold stuff regularly will ruin your lungs. There’s no doubt about it. I know it first hand.
Good work, Dr. John. I hope I will be able to cut down on my cold consumption.

I would like to get further help from you. How do I contact you? Please email me at [email protected].

All reputable medical research indicates that the internal heat of the body quickly nullifies any temperature differences in ingested foods and liquids. The black pudding example is arrant nonsense. Comparative analysis requires duplication of the conditions being compared. What happens to cow’s blood outside the cow’s body has absolutely no bearing on what happens to human blood inside the human body. This article is incontrovertible proof of the old saying “a little learning is a dangerous thing”. Get medical advice from medical doctors and get philosophical advice from philosophical doctors.

You have followers and supporters who helped you and gave you thumbs up but this does not mean you are correct.
Many people have been mal-diagnosed and died prematurely from doctors errors – malpractice, operating on the wrong leg and lungs and misdiagnosed their ailments, if they have any. I am fully aware of that. It has occurred in the U.S. and in Canada much more in Dominica where there are no specialized doctors. I have read enough about this and as broadcasted and printed through the general Media. You are deceiving the gullible.
Dr. Lucia John made a good point. Some people will renounce what she stated but she is correct. You need to straighten your records. If you are a professional of any sort you may wish to re-enter college/university to further enhance your medical knowledge.

These days the main topic is health, dieting, eating nutritious foods and drinking what is essential for our body and keeping fit. Also citrus, fruits, vegetables and ample amount of water or tea, herbal teas are also included.
Tonight a friend and I had a relevant discussion over the telephone. We also discussed the Chinese/Korean restaurants, buffet ones, all-you-can-eat. Then the topic turned to desserts. This friend and I were at par when we stated that we love Jello after a meal because it is not heavy as cakes, etc.
When I resided in Dominica Jello was not a favorite dessert of mine. Residing overseas, for whatever reason, I developed a taste for it. It is light not heavy. By the way I read it is good for our finger nails; no doubt our toe nails. :)
Jello can also be made with fruit cocktail and vice versa. We agreed that after a meal our favorite dessert is Jello. The same applies when we are invited out to social gatherings. Cake is not my favorite; yet in previous years I loved eating cake. For some reason, no more; probably just a little piece. I will bake it for family and company but hardly ever have a taste. Strange, how we change (or some of us) our eating habits and tastes as time goes by.
Reading the comments, the thought came to me about Jello. In order to get it to thicken, we must first have a cup of hot, boiling water and a cup of ice cold water. We mix them into the Jello and place it in the fridge to set. Note what the heat and the cold can do to the mixture.
Does it not make sense that if our body temperature is hot, we should not drink cold water and that we should not mix hot and cold together? The body temperature does not subside to a normal temperature in a second or even a few minutes. I do believe that this is a good example. It is a comparison between hot and cold.
If per chance we eat hot, steaming food, do you think that it is healthy to drink frigid – cold water immediately after?
Has any doctor ever considered that, those who critic the doctor’s comments on drinking cold water when our body temperature is hot? Think of that. You critics of the doctor’s article, I would love to know your comments on this one, “Jello, mixing the cold and hot water to thicken it”.

Although this article is pretty dumb and lacks sources I do think that we underestimate the effect of cold water on our bodies, we cant just assume that it does no damage at all, even if our bodies warm the water up in a matter of few minutes, our cells/ blood cells, even if not directly, are still exposed to cold temperatures for a period of time, so saying that ice cold water is completely harmless is overlooking the fact that cells need to be a certain temperature to function properly and live and a disturbance of that temp. can possibly slightly damage them, so its not impossible that doing this many times can negatively affect health.

I presume that when you put the ice cube into the cow’s blood there would be a major difference in that it was exposed to different types of gases. Wouldn’t the cow’s blood be out of its body and therefore not regulated by its natural body temperature at the time? Unlike reptiles and other cold blooded animals, the cow is a warm blooded animal meaning that the temperature of its blood is regulated biologically. What about all those people living in snow, some of them all their lives? Their blood probably never circulates.

Common sense also dictates that if we are out in the sun, it is really hot, we should not drink cold water. There are some people who feel they must drink cold water, a cold drink and with ice at whatever time of day and night. This is not necessary. In years gone by prior to fridges and ice, our ancestors did without them. Some of them lived long lives and did not have the types of diseases (illnesses) which exist today. The medical profession cannot find the cause and do not have names for some illnesses, just as there is no cure for certain illneses. Let common sense prevail. The doctor is correct. Obviously, she writes from expertise also what she has heard, read and learned through the medical profession. What she stated makes good sense to me and worth practicing.

@Justice and Truth…I cannot agree with the argument that common sense dictates that we should not drink cold water if we were out in the sun. I really do not see the need for common sense to be applied here. I want to hear the medical rationale. I do not do things simply because it would be harmless but MIGHT have beneficial effects. Further, most of the diseases that exist today have existed for centuries. It’s just that medical science has advanced exponentially and today, people know what their ailments are, unlike centuries ago when many were unaware of what the diseases were that they were suffering from. Deaths were rather mysterious then. It is not at all obvious to me that she writes from expertise. All I want are scientific reasons. Don’t tell me about ice-cubes in a bowl of cow’s blood. That’s not a scientific experiment. Drinking a cold beverage can never be comparable to putting an ice-cube in a bowl of cow’s blood.
In my considered opinion, all this talk about vedic science and herbal medicines is not based on hard cold medical facts and that’s my problem.

Then, drink your cold water when you get in from the heat. It may not affect you now but wait later. In time it builds up in the body and exposes itself in the form of some illness. I hope you are healthy and are not on medication. Those who are on medication are not healthy and who knows how long they will live. If you are, examine yourself and pay attention to what you have read. As always, precaution is better than cure. We never know what will happen to us even with drinking a cup/glass of cold water. Never doubt what you cannot prove or disprove and this means everything, secular or religious, secular or religious.

    • July 30, 2012

      @Samantha

You asked: “Is this cold water theory accepted by the mainstream medical community worldwide”

That is what I would like to know as well. Because I am quite sure that the majority of people in this world drink freezing cold drinks–whether it is water, juices, milk, and or soft drinks, from day to day.

It is just last week I was my son’s father’s house and there was a friend of his wife on vacation from St. Lucia.

That lady was simply filling up a glass with ice cubes just to chew on them; she refilled the glass again and again. So that has to be a habit of hers, who knows for how long she has been doing that–I see nothing wrong with her health.

As the person named toots mentioned, the body of each person is unique; being adapted to what it can deal with. There is no medicine that the body cannot make for itself, as long as the person in that body eat healthy foods and maintain other healthy habits, such as exercising and sleeping. Because we ar human beings we are going to get sick, but when our body id prepared to deal with the sickness we have no trouble at all for all we need is a few days in bed.

The body will tell its person what is comfortable or not comfortable to ingest, based on the way the person feels after ingesting the food or drink. We just have to be careful by paying attention to what our body tells us and to do or not do it.

Some people are allergic to foods that everyone else indulge in. I have read in the news where a young girl died after eating a peanut butter cookie, because she was allergic to peanut butter. And yet peanut butter is well loved by both children and adults.

Somehow I am thinking that if that idea was factual, medical expects would have made sure that the world know about it–I have never read this anywhere else but in this news article.

Maybe I am too far behind through my existence in this world, but that does not make that idea any easier for me to swallow–I wont even try.

I just hope that those series of messages will stay on the idea of healing through the state of mind, when it is in good shape,

I dont know about allu…but putting an ice cube on blood is irrelevant…When you drink water it will takes about five minutes for some to reach to your bloodstream; half of the water in 11-13 minutes and completely absorbed in 75-120 minutes. I’m pretty sure that since our body loves to maintain 98.6 degrees…the water will be quite warm by then and wont turn your blood into a ‘thick sticky… jello’.

Well nothing, Eskimo love it ice water in ice water and they are most healthy guys in the world with japanese who didnt know milk and pastry to 70. past century. Here in my country almost eveyone say – warm water is good, dont drink cold water, it makes you harm. Saying fat and often sick and tired people. Its damn tough urban legen! I am sorry for my bad english

  53. Justice and Truth

The doctor is correct. Some months ago I received an email to that effect of not drinking ‘cold water’. Ever since I place the water in a container and leave it on the table. When it is finished I refill it. The water at room temperature will not harm or kill anyone.
Consider in a hot climate, coming in from the heat and drinking cold water straight from the fridge. People think that drinking cold water will diminish the feeling of being hot. It may temporarily alleviate it but it is not good for us.
When I visited DA I would drink water straight from the tap. It felt good and helped stabilize my body heat from the sun.
I have heard of people getting sick and even dying from drinking cold pop. Some years ago I heard of one such person in DA.
In addition, those who iron their clothes and use the hot irons as also it were in those days using ‘coal’ must be doubly careful not to open the fridge or not to get wet from the rain. This could result in catching pneumonia. I also know of someone in DA who ironed and opened the fridge to get something from it and got sick and eventually died of this ailment.
We do take chances with our health and life. Some of you may not have heard of those incidents. Therefore pay heed to what the Doctor stated.
As a child and student, every morning my mother always gave us fruits as papaya, sugar apple, etc., with our breakfast. Today I realize why.
It is known that we should not eat fruits during the day. The same reason being, if our body temperature is hot and we eat them, we could get sick. For some, it will be eventual death.
If we eat fruits, we should allow the body temperature to subside prior to eating them. It may not affect everyone but who knows who it will affect. I reiterate that what the doctor stated is correct. Pay heed and practice what she stated. From what I heard and also read I can vouch for that, it has been harmful to some people and who knows how many throughout the world. Precaution is better than cure.

This column was presented by another great Dominican, Mr.Ronald Maroni Abrahams. It contains very useful information as well and I encourage everyone to take a look at the information:

In closing, I want to touch on your sixth paragraph in which you mention the consequences of the use and abuse of alcohol on the body. while I share your sentiments on the abusive use of alcohol on the body, is it not widely accepted by physicians and medical practitioners that moderate or occasional use of alcohol is in fact beneficial to ones health as this helps to thin the blood?

Everything drunk or eaten in moderation is not bad for the health. When it is overdone then health problems commence.
I have read that red wine is recommended. I once heard a man state on a Radio Station that every night he had some whisky and he never caught a cold. Of course he resides in a cold country. Moderation is always the key. Overdoing it is harmful to the body. It is as simple as that. We must use our discretion.

  56. July 28, 2012

It is up to you to work toward “Perfect Health” the state in which body, mind, behaviour, and spirit function as one–Lucia John

The following paragraphs, from that statement above, do speak the message of Life, except that there is no mention of the Giver of Life. I mean that we need to have Life before we start focusing on “perfect health” But where did that Life come from? It is imperative that we know this.

For the only reason for, and ability of “perfect health” is because of our steadfast faith and trust in, our attitude of obedience and humility by which we glorify Him, who is the Giver of Life–that Him is God Almighty, Eternal Spirit of Love and Life through His Person, the Man Jesus Christ.

For “in Him there was Life and the Life was the Light of men”, and “by His we are healed”, both spiritually and physically.

We can be healed through His touch or by our touch of faith in Him–Like the touch of the woman with a 12 year bleeding, who recived immediate healing when faith talked her into touching the hem of Jesus’ robe as He walk among a huge crowd of people.

God Almighty through Jesus Christ is the reason we have peace of mind–the state of mind in Love, but only if that mind is connected to conscience, which is the home of Holy Spirit, when we are connected to our God of Life.

The mind is fed by the essence Love the Primary nature of God in Jesus Christ–that is why By His stripes or His blood we are healed through faith. The Spiritual nature of Jesus’ blood is Love.

Otherwise this mind is still carnal, and continuing to accept every seed that our senses sow on its ground for nurturing and production, but most of those produced fruits are the fruits of death–not of Life. Our reason for “perfect health” is because we want Life; not death.

And so people of Dominica, it is good to accept counselling for “Perfect Health”, but as long as we remain of the flesh, we cannot do it on our own. We need to know that the counsel we receive was conducted by Holy Spirit through the person who gives us that counsel.

Therefore let us continue in faith, believing that whatever we do to maintain perfect health–we do it by God’s commands through the teachings and guidance of Holy Spirit. By faith also, we will know that the idea in our minds is not of God, that is the way Holy Spirit guides and teaches us the Way of Life

We cannot be afraid or ashamed to mention God in our Lives because if not from Him we have no Life. God is a Living God of Love in Spirit, Truth, and Holiness.

The apostle James tells us that the Body without the Spirit is dead–we cannot talk about perfect health if we exist with a sleeping soul within, for in that condition we are as dead as a sleeping bat, as our mind remain in its carnal stature ingesting and digesting all the poisons that is fed to it from our senses.

Remember God’s Word which says: “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth”.

In order words God wants us to know that He is the highest among all those who thinks they are kings and queens, lords and ladies (among the nations) and He is the highest in this earth–which of course is below Him.

Our responsibility in Life is to exalt our God of Love in Spirit, Truth, and Holiness, otherwise we will suffer the consequences of not doing so–no matter how upright and blameless our existence in this world.

God help those who help themselves. The doctor is correct. I have outlined and confirmed what has happened to some people who drank cold drinks, etc. I am certain we do not know half of what may have happened to others worldwide.
God expects us to utilize our common sense and good judgment which He gave us. Doctors are there for a reason as given to us by God. Consider all those doctors in specifically Toronto who dispense medications. Are they religious? Do they cure anyone? Yet they offer advice as well.
It is also stated in the Old Testament that God gave us doctors for a reason. Search for it. You will find it.
There are some who do not utilize their common sense. Everything they read and hear they denounce. This is no way to live and to learn. I have enough common sense and intelligence to know that the Doctor is correct. This stems from also the experience of others, family members who informed me of about it. Their family members were unfortunate to die from drinking cold drinks.
Whenever I come in from outdoors, be it in summer or winter, I never head for the fridge. I drink some warm tea. I am not one who drinks hot tea or eat hot foods. They must be warm. They are soothing and healthy. It is sad that some people do not comprehend this. They are not correct and are beyond understanding. The hearts of many are revealed for no good.

      July 31, 2012

      @ sandw

You have raised a good point. If you are merely walking to the river from home it should not affect you.
As I recall, when we went on picnics it generally was in the morning and not midday or late afternoons when the sun is hotter, even though we were there all day. First we would bathe and then eat by noon. If possible, we would play games. This was generally the end of bathing for the day. We would leave the area by 4:00 pm for the latest to get home. Know that it gets dark by 6:00 p.m. if not a little earlier. It may be that in those days we were more disciplined.
Do you think if you were playing basket ball, volley ball or other such games you would bathe in the cold river water? The sea water is warm. I am informing you this could be an invitation for a stroke. This should not affect them but not the cold river water when their body temperature is high from playing.
Once again, we must utilize our common sense, hot, warm and cold in every matter.
I do not need a doctor to inform me about the health hazard nor should you.
However, the doctor has informed us and some of you wish to reject and question what she stated, probably for the sake of doing it, criticismand writing which some of you are prone to. I reiterate, too bad for you.
I am always willing to learn something new especially if I am not aware of it. Why not all the doubters? Common sense is required.

My school teacher told me it takes about 1 – 2 hrs before it reaches the system.
Doc I figure by that time there before it reaches the blood, the ice fluid taken inside the tommy would already get hot.

As an adult your school teacher must be as brain damaged as you are. You were too young then to comprehend it and think for yourself. A sensible adult would question it and not want to have a teacher as that. I would question that teacher.
From the moment you drink the water, it enters your mouth, to your throat, to your lungs and into your blood stream. This is your inner body.
Tell me, where does the water rest prior to entering your blood stream/body? I can understand food which needs to be digested prior to circulating in the body. But water which is fluid? Even cigarette smoke or other fumes immediately enter the blood stream into the body from the moment it enters the lungs. I do not want to insult or humiliate anyone but some of you really do not utilize your common sense. Some of you are so easily deceived by also the negative comments of others and your lack of intelligence and knowledge. Common sense should dictate that you do not drink cold water when you come in from the heat or even while you are in the heat. Medical doctors also do not encourage taking Vitamins. They promote medication. You do not believe what this Doctor stated. I do not have confidence in some medical doctors and would challenge them.
Let me further inform you. This is something I occasionally repeat this as with all good things and advice. When I came to Toronto I developed a nasal, throat and chest congestion. I kept going to a medical doctor. All I got was medication, fluid and tablets which made me drowsy. Later on the doctor recommended that I take a needle with a fluid which will assist my congestion. Never once did the doctor ask me if I had a proper breakfast; how much water and fruit juice I drank and other relevant information. I had to pay for this so-called sinus preventative fluid (at this point I cannot even remember the name). The Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan (O.H.I.P.) did not cover it at that time. Today, I do not know if it is covered.
I do believe that God was on my side. I got fed-up of this foreign fluid being pumped into my hand through my blood stream. I ceased taking it. I commenced taking more Vitamin C and tablets. I got a good relief. I do feel if I kept on taking it I probably would have died in time.
While I do not denounce all doctors, nevertheless, they will prohibit the use of what could cause people to get better. They stand to financially lose as also the pharmacists who dispense medication. This may be the reason why doctors will renounce what the doctor stated in this article.
Those who denounce it and in time they get sick, I hope the medical doctors will cure them. May they not pray to God to heal them for they will not be healed because they are not listening to good advice and reason. I vouch for what the doctor stated.

This analogy to back up her idea is so wrong. The blood at the market is under environment temperature. Your body is at 98.6 deg and anything it absorbs it brings it to that temperature. It’s like saying an oven at 100 deg and you place a glass of cold watering there and the oven will cool. The Dr is wrong about colld water!

Dr. John: « If we raise that temperature a few degrees, the body starts to show signs of distress, and we say we have a fever….When we drink ice-cold water, juice, or any ice-cold fluids we create the basis for chronic diseases.»

At the heart of this issue is the balance required in our bodies. Thank you, Dr. John. I have a few questions….

    1. Would your advice against consuming «ice-cold» fluids also apply to the consumption of fiery-hot fluids? Consider, of course, that we usually consume teas and other beverages while hot.

    2. How long does an «ice-cold liquid» in our mouths actually remain so ice-cold that it causes such damage as your article suggest?

You see, doctor, one of the assumptions in your article is that an ice-cold liquid remains ice-cold even as it moves from the mouth to the throat through the body system. This, is inaccurate. therefore, conclusions based on this inaccuracy are questionable at the very least.

Have you ever drank ice cold water and how it feels when it gets on your chest just as hot fluid? Your chest is your inner body and in your blood stream. Try doing that and you will find out.

But wait nuh Where mamzelle getting her Facts nuh,,,

And how can mamzelle compare blood that is already in a coagulating state with fluid inside our body that maintains its temperature at about 98 degrees,,,

So what about them Eskimos and all them man living in the frigid regions, dey should be all riddled with the dis-ease den, what-ever its name is,,,

      @ Rastar Marm

You raised a good question for educational purposes. Ask the Eskimos. :) For your information it is so cold outside that I would not be surprised that they never drink cold water but warm water/tea. Some of them do not have pipes. They live in Iglos which is cold. You and I could never live there for this reason.
The new, modern buildings probably would be heated. It never gets as hot in those areas as it is in the tropics and for a few months as in Canada. So what is your comparison?
A few years ago some Eskimos came to Toronto as exchange students, to learn about Toronto, what they could. I heard on the TV news they said that Toronto was too warm. I laughed at that for we felt cool and still wore spring coats and sweaters. It was only approximately 52 degrees F. at that time. If I was not mistaken 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I would think that they do not drink cold water at all. We must utilize our good judgment, if we have any about what Doctor Lucia stated. Please do not bring her down. She is correct. Mark my words and based on what I heard from those whose relatives were affected. If she was wrong I would not be writing immensely and trying to convince and correct some people. I realize once they made up their mind they will not be convinced but that is their funeral as the saying goes; not mine or the Doctor’s, if they fail to pay heed.

There is no credible scientific evidence to corroborate the assertion that drinking cold water is harmful to humans.

      • Be Nice
        July 29, 2012

There was no credible scientific evidence either when Noah told the people for years that a flood was coming and that they should prepare for it and build the ark to save themselves. They only jeered and condemned until that fateful day when the ark was finished building and the animals had all walked in and God closed the door of the ark with a loud bang. Only then did the first peal of thunder roll, and only then did the dark clouds start forming very quickly. That was when they started crying out to God to save them. Alas, it was too late for the people to do anything. God had given them all the time they needed but they closed their eyes and their ears and hardened their hearts. The result; they perished. Look at the people on your streets and see how many young people you see with swollen legs, dark patches on their faces and just plain old suffering etched on their faces. People who suffer from head freeze when they drink ice-cold drinks, the men who develop pot bellies when they drink so many ice-cold beers, or the children who cannot focus in school. People who have hands and feet cramping especially after drinking ice-cold drinks. Ask them what they like to drink and you will find out that their favorite drinks are ice-cold. Do your research properly, find the sources of this and share it with your people.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. Because this information is new to you does not mean that it is untrue. I am a medically trained (RN) and this is information that is dearly missing from our formal education. Many times the medical world and drug companies would prefer that we are not aware of these healthy practices as they would prefer to keep us $ick. They often do not recognize Homeopathy and like Chiropractors are refered to as Quacks. Heed the warnings. Dr. John is right. When I worked amongst the East Indians & Chinese patients they would always request lukewarm liquids – look at their longevity. Just saying. Thanks Doc.

before you ask yes Im qualified to answer this. This particular information on ice or cold water doing damage was removed from emails re the false information, please read up on how the body reacts to water cold or warm, the body adapts as needed. Please google myths on drinking ice or cold water

      • Bethelinaforjesus
        July 29, 2012

        @toots

You said that “the body adapts as needed”–that is a great piece of wisdom from you here, for I understand quite clearly what you mean

The body is unique in every person; there is no kind of medicine that our bodies cannot produce for itself and long as we continue with a healthy diet, and other healthy habits, such as sleep and exercise, for exampler–most importantly faith and trust in God’s ability to keep us healthy and alive in both the body and the Spirit.

God designed our bodies that it would heal itself, by the herbs, other plants, and water which He gave us to use for hunger, thirst, and medicine.

That is the reason Jesus compares the Living drink from Him as “Water” And nothing is more refresshing to the body, than a glass of cold water–especially on a hot summer day like what we are now experiencing in Toronto at this time of the year.

It is human wisdom and philosophy that continues to confuse our minds as they try to play higher than God Himself. But “by the stripes of Jesus Christ we healed” through sincere faith. How can we have peace of mind, when we are constantly told this, that, and the other thing is bad for us? And yet peace of mind is the most healthy state we, as human beings, will ever live with.

Our bodies tell us what we should eat and drink and what not to eat and drink based on the way we feel after we have ingest and digest those foods and drinks. We simply need to remain alert!

For example in the past, I could drink Scotch Whiskey on the rock, but if I drank one glass of rum with ice or with other mix, I would wake with a nasty headache in the morning, which would end with throwing up some time of the day. Then I would feel better.

Some people are alergic to certain foods and drinks–their bodies told them about it and so those do not eat those foods or drink those drinks.

For example I cannot drink homogenized milk it gives me diahrea, other people have no trouble drinking that milk. Some years ago I read in the news that a young girl had died from eating a peanut butter cookie, because she was alergic to peanut butter. Most children and adults as well, love peanut butter.

I know people who say that they cannot drink ice cold drinks including water, and so they don’t intake those drinks at their freezing temperature.

But the majority or people I know drink freezings drinks of all kinds–that includes myself. The only drinks that I want hot is coffee or tea. Right now in Toronto, we have Tim Huttons–a chained coffee shop who sells iced coffee; iced capuchino etc. What does it do to those people who drink those drinks?

I just believe it is an exergeration to say that the intake of icecold drinks can aggravate disease in the body, that would have been noted by world wide medical experts if it was factual–there are some things that does worth the mention, because it makes matters worse for everyone–especially creation confusion to the mind.

For example those who believe this report will now try not to drink anything from their refriegerator–but do not forget that many foods and drinks must be properly preserved when they are not in use–usually the refrigerator is the most common place for food preservations.

I not have spelling check here, excuse the words that I always spell wrongly.

@toots please read carefully then you will understand. And remember It’s never to old to learn .I’m a female talking from experience with cold drinks whenever I drank cold stuff before or during my period I gets really sick with cramps that was before I realize that it were the cold drinks were causing all that discomfort including all the clots that were accompanied by the cramps .people use to always tell me it were cold drinks causing all the cramps and clots .I never really study what they were saying until one day I decided try not drinking anything that is cold when my period is approacing and trust me it works .the doctor knows exactly what she is talking about .

        July 29, 2012

        @the doc is right”

The fact that your body reacts a particular way to the ingestion of cold liquids is not proof that cold liquids are bad for everyone. You may have a metabolic system that reacts negatively to certain ingredients. The heat may alter the chemical composition of the ingredients, thus making the drinks more metabolic-friendly to your body. So it may not necessarily be the hot/cold factor that is causing you harm, but more the effect of the heat/cold on specific ingredients in the drink. Be careful with cause and effect relationships; because “A” happpened first, followed by “B”, we should not jump to the conclusion that “A” caused “B”. Well, at least that’s what I think.

The doctor said “…when we drink ice-cold water, juice or any ice cold fluids, we create the basis for chronic diseases…”That is a far cry from your implying that she said that “…ice drinks causing disease…” What a distortion! Read between the lines – do not drink or eat anything cold when your body temperature is hot, when you come in from the heat. When you come in, allow your body temperature to cool down prior to drinking and eating anything cold. Should this be more explicit? I am ashamed of some of you who appear not to possess common sense and read between the lines. You question everything without thinking. What type of brains do you have? This applies when you are cooking.

“why do you think ice cream causes a headache”.

Headaches are caused by muscles constricting. There are nerves in the back of your throat. When these nerves get too cold the muscles constrict. If you chug down a cold drink too quickly for your blood to re-warm the nerves, it causes a headache.

You can cure brain freeze by pressing your thumb to the roof of your mouth.
