One 16-year-old from Marigot says he intends to take Dominica by storm on December 24th when he release his first Dancehall mixtape, “My Mark.”
Ryan “Dynamiq Ryan” Jones in an interview with Dominica News Online said that the mixtape features some very positive songs.
“I have a variety of positive songs, songs that speak on reality, things that happen in everyday life,” he told DNO.
The young artiste added further that one of the songs that fans can look forward to is “When Things are Bright,” which he said speaks about friendships and “fake friends who only stand by your side when things are relatively good with you.”
“Reality inspires me, seeing things that happen with people, everyday life, in my neighbor-hood, in my family, friends,” he stated. “I write based on what happens in my life and in the lives of others. I know myself singing from since nine years old and I started writing my own music at about 15.”
He indicated further that he always wanted to be a singer and describes himself as young artiste “pushing to be out there with a positive mindset.”
Dynamiq Ryan is being mentored by local dancehall artiste, Smokie Cut, whom he says is the person that he admires the most.
“I respect every artiste that is out there before me but I look up to Smokie Cut in particular as my mentor. I listen to Alkaline, Movado, Vybz Kartel .. every one of them but I pay more mind to Smokie Cut because he inspires me more, his music and everything,” he stated.
He said he picked the Dancehall genre because it “chose him” since he feels that his voice is mostly suited for it.
Dyamiq Ryan further stated that he wants to finish high school, go to college and focus on his music.
Also, doing collaborations with big name artistes and getting the world to see that Dominica has talent is one of his long term goals.
The budding artiste advised others like himself to remain focused on their dreams.
“Always go forward, don’t let anybody tell you that you cannot do this and you cannot do that, don’t be a follower, always try to be a leader, stay in school, aim for the sky, don’t follow bad company, don’t do drugs,” he said.
