COMMENTARY: NATO loots Libyan gold as Tripoli falls

Portraits of Gaddafi being burnt. Photo credit: AFP/Getty Images

Precisely as we predicted last month, NATO forces and their Al-Qaeda backed rebels launched a massive assault on Tripoli in order to wrap up the looting and conquest of Libya in time for crucial talks at the UN on Palestinian statehood set to begin in less than two weeks.

On July 8th in an article entitled, U.S. Wants Gaddafi Toppled By September, we reported, “The United States and France have set a deadline of September 2nd to topple Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, with NATO powers ready to inflict a crushing blow if Gaddafi refuses to step down peacefully.”

That crushing blow is now in full effect as reports circulate of well over a thousand dead with thousands more wounded during weekend battles, led by by NATO warships and fighter jets as part of “Operation Mermaid Dawn,”which led to the capture of Gaddafi’s sons as Gaddafi himself reportedly went into hiding.

RAF fighter jets were deployed to attack key regime targets while the media pretended the whole assault was an organic uprising by the Libyan people, endlessly replaying footage of celebrating crowds.

In another report published on July 15, we stated that NATO powers and the rebel army would launch a final bombardment of Tripoli within 6-8 weeks if Gaddafi refused to step down, which is exactly what unfolded just shy of 6 weeks later.

Barack Obama and David Cameron are now busy milking the spectacle with tough talk as if they led the assault personally. In reality, the conquest of Libya represents little more than another act of colonial looting on behalf of the NATO war machine, with Syria the next target in its cross hairs.

The war was launched, with the gleeful support of the western corporate media, on the hoax that Gaddafi’s government was slaughtering “protesters” en masse. In reality, these “protesters” had commandeered military tanks and fighter jets. For weeks, the establishment press re-branded what was a civil war as a brutal series of crimes against humanity by Gaddafi’s regime, just long enough for the United Nations to pass a “no fly zone” resolution that instantly turned into a massive NATO bombardment overnight.

Global central banks will now get to carve up Africa’s most oil-rich nation while simultaneously divvying up around 144 tons of gold bullion – which might go some way to repaying Hugo Chavez after his announcement that Venezuela is to nationalize its precious metals industry. Unless of course Chavez becomes the next head on the chopping block for another “humanitarian intervention”.

The attack on Libya, spearheaded by Obama without Congressional approval, against the advice of his own constitutional lawyers, and on a promise that the conflict would last “days not weeks,” was a brazen illustration of how the so-called “war on terror” was a cruel hoax.

From the very beginning, and in violation of their own resolution, NATO powers armed, funded and trained Al-Qaeda militants who had killed U.S. troops, setting them up to command the rebels in the march towards Tripoli. As the Wall Street Journal reported in a piece entitled, Ex-Mujahedeen Help Lead Libyan Rebels, Al-Qaeda terrorists who worked directly for Bin Laden were tasked with recruiting, training and acting as front line field commanders for the rebel army.

The entire scope of the war was about capturing Libya as another launch pad for further empire building in the Middle East and north Africa, which is why PNAC neo-cons ordered “Peace Laureate” Obama to do it in the first place. The conquest was about securing the richest oil resources in the whole of Africa, it was about stealing 6 billion dollars in gold reserves, and it was about putting a halt to China’s efforts to virtually re-colonize Africa.

Although Gaddafi was obviously an autocratic dictator, he did reinvest much of Libya’s oil wealth back into the country, transforming it into one of the most well-developed nations in the whole region, which is why a lot of the middle classes in major cities retained their support for the Libyan leader.

All that is set to change now that NATO forces and the central banks that stand behind them will finally get the opportunity to properly plunder Libya for all it has. Living standards will plummet, corrupt strong men will take control with globalist blessings and run the country into the ground for their own good, so long as they allow NATO and US air force bases to be constructed throughout the land.

Save for any last minute counter-attack by Gaddafi forces, the globalist war machine can now focus on toppling its next domino on the road to world domination. Rest assured, whether its Syria, Iran, Pakistan or anywhere else, a suitable hoax will be invented as a pretext for invasion and the western establishment media will slavishly create the perfect narrative for a bloody assault disguised as a humanitarian outreach.

While I won’t shed one tear for Gaddafi, if I had to shed a tear it would be for the Libyan people who will find themselves with one dictator replacing the other.

The only difference to them is to whom their dictator is beholden.

The end of Gadhafi regim was decided by the Lybian rebells ( 80% of the population ) and supported by the Arab league itself.

So, to those who talk about an “attack from Nato or from racists people” : stop spreading this kind of news please : is Obama a white racist man ?

You all must understand that dictatorships have no place in this world ; 42 years in power isn’t enough ?
Hope the next ones to be thrown out are Chavez and Castro.

All leaders, no matter how long they have been in power have their supporters and detractors and Muammar al Gaddafi is no exception. In any country, the masses of people can have many valid and legitimate grievances against their government.

Libya, with the largest oil reserves in Africa and the ninth largest in the world has been a big prize for western oil giants because of the quantity and particularly the quality of Libyan oil.

After George W Bush lifted economic sanctions in 2004 and Gaddafi allowed the western owned oil giants back into Libya, the US government was furious to learn that Gaddafi was attempting to limit the powers and profits of those oil companies.

One Wikileaks released State Department cable from November 2007 (Wikileaks reference ID 07TRIPOLI967) talks about the growing evidence of Libyan “resource nationalism” by the Gaddafi government. The US and British governments employed similar language against the Iranian Prime Minister, Dr Mohammad Mossadegh who was overthrown by a CIA led coup that restored the Shah to the throne. It allowed the US and British oil companies to retake ownership over Iran’s oil until the 1979 revolution.

The same cable refers to a speech made by Gaddafi in 2006 in which he said: “Oil companies are controlled by foreigners who have made millions from them, now Libyans must take their place to profit from this money.”
Another Wikileaks released State Department Cable from Jan 30th 2009 (Wikileaks reference ID 09TRIPOLI71) discusses a January 2009 speech by Gaddafi stating “Muammar Al-Qadhafi suggested that Libya and other oil exporting states could nationalise their oil production in view of sharply plummeting petroleum prices.”
The Wikileaks released State Department cables make it clear that the basis for US hostility to the Gaddafi regime was about who should control Libya’s vast oil reserves, Libya or western capitalist oil enterprises.

For most Africans, Gaddafi is a generous man known for his support for the struggle against the racist regime in South Africa.
A long time backer of the African Union and a forceful advocate of stronger integration across the African continent he used billions of Libyan money to assist those in Africa and the Caribbean.

At the second Afro-Arab summit he apologised for the participation of some Arabs in the slave trade and urged the Arab world to ‘recognise this issue, denounce it vigorously and place it in its true dimension.”

The US$30 billion frozen by President Obama belongs to the Libyan Central Bank and was earmarked as the Libyan contribution to three key projects, the African Investment Bank in Syrte, Libya; the establishment in 2011 of the African Monetary Fund to be based in Yaounde, Cameroon, and the African Central Bank to be based in Abuja, Nigeria, which would have finished off the CFA franc through which France has been able to maintain a strangle-hold on some African countries for the last fifty years.

Before France conceded to demands for independence from fourteen of its former African colonies, it set up a common currency for them called the CFA franc and obligated those colonies to put 65% of their foreign currency reserves into the French Treasury, plus another 20% for financial liabilities which means these African countries have access to only 15% of their own money.
Furthermore, France has the first right to buy or reject any natural resource found in any CFA member country.

The countries bombing Libya have one thing in common, they are virtually bankrupt and if the CFA franc ceased to exist, France would be plunged into anarchy and chaos.
It has been said that after Libya the ‘western coalition’ will go after Algeria because apart from its huge resources, the country has cash reserves of around 150 billion.

If you think the NATO intervention is about facilitating the ‘Arab Spring’ in Libya ( actually, Libya is in Africa and not the Middle East) or to support the “will of the Libyan people” as stated by British Prime Minister David Cameron, think again.

To every action there is a reaction and if that is true and what the writer say is true can he then explain why is it that these head of states seems to be putting themselves in that dictatorial position for so long that there seem to be logical cause to have them remove even by there own people. After 40 years or 30 years is it that difficult to believe that people living in those country are actually fed up and want a change?

colonel Qaddafi was not removed by his own people / he was removed by the outside forces of NATO aided and abetted by others. the so-called rebels inside libya were mere pawns in a much larger conspiracy .

    • Gary
      August 23, 2011

      To Good ways

It seems that you clearly do not understand what is going on. First off Gaddafi was not removed by his own people as you want to believe. The removal of Gaddafi was spear headed by NATO with their Superior Air Force. Now you mentioned that Gaddafi was in Power for 40 years and Dictatorial, well what about the Rulers of Saudi Arabia, why they to are not removed, the Royal Family has been ruling that Country much more longer than Gaddafi, and are they not Dictatorial.

In the Game of international Politics things are done not what is right or wrong as we would all like to believe but is done for interest, power, and money. Justice honesty and integrity are thrown out the window. There is a difference between what you think it is and what it is. We live in this world and know nothing about international Politics, yes we my have our opinions and beliefs but they mean nothing to the people that orchestrate our affairs behind the scene.

‘The Nubians and Negros of other Africa countries, who were living in Libya before the upheaval began, were supposedly treated fairly by the Gaddafi government’. ‘The same favourable treated was extended to the European workers who were working and living lavish lifestyles there’.

So, I am given to thinking that if the opposition gains a strong hold on Libya, certain people may be treated less favourably.

These imperialists never learn. They transported hundreds of shipments, (galleons), of gold from the Americas to Europe. While the Spaniards, British and French attempted to exterminate the Aztecs, Mayas, Incas and other tribes from Mexico, Peru, Guatemala and other parts of North, Central and South America, they plundered all the gold and other mineral resources.

Despite all the stolen gold and centuries of slavery, Spain and the rest of the European Union are in economic turmoil. The USA is also in economic turmoil, despite its tremendous wealth. That wealth is controlled by the top 2% of the population. We may soon see the downfall of the “economic dictators”; the conglomerates; the monopoly capitalists. The writing is on the wall. It’s just a matter of time before Babylon falls.

Gaddafi was, undoubtly, a dictator who dominated Libya for 42 years. He handed the imperialists the pretext they needed to topple him.The imperialists do not tolerate regimes that nationalize their resources, deprive their citizens basic human rights and the means to choose their elected officials.

The British ruled India, Pakistan and Afghanistan for centuries and look what mess they left. They armed and trained the Mujahedeen Talibans in Afghanistan. Now the Taliban terrorizes NATO. The Europeans destroyed, divided and plundered Sub-Sahara Africa. Now they want to divert the attention of their people to the oil-rich nations of the Middle East. But, try as they may, no patch work will rescue capitalism. The dollar must die and the fall of Babylon is inevitable.

How can you “Zandoli” makes such a irresponsible statement…”The average Dominican is just insignificant”?..really?.
In my humble opinion, that is a very demeaning, and derogatory statement to make about your fellow Dominicans….It sickens me to see how low you stooped to insult, belittle and ridicule your fellow Citizens…
Frankly,it’s downright despicable and appalling. You should apologize for what you said, because those things were not very nice to say….

I do hope you reconsider…Even if you disagree with someone,or some People, you don’t have to insult them in that manner, especially your Countrymen;and over the Internet…We can agree to disagree more amicably.

What or who were you defending anyway?…The writer?….Can’t you see that he is insulting the intelligence of Dominicans?….That was all propaganda, and propaganda at its best, man. There were lots of inaccuracies in his commentary.
I am quite sure that he thinks like you do about Dominicans, otherwise he would never have this garbage published on D.N.O.
I have to question both his and D.N.O’s motive. I do not believe he is a Dominican, you on the other hand are. And that’s why I am very disappointed.

One of the things I don’t like is the lack of respect that we tend to exhibit toward each other……

This sounds very much like a bad “spin”, possibly in preparation for the fact that the new Libyan Govt. will find the treasury empty when they finally get to it. Would it not be more likely that Col.
