Half a century ago Dominica had up to 25 factories dispersed throughout the island.
They were all were run on renewable energy and adding value to our raw materials.
Instead of giving away our mountains and importing petroleum waste for colas, the Public Works Corporation should be:
1. Building reinforced concrete roads that will withstand the high rainfall of Dominica and not sink under load.
2. Providing local industries with material to make blocks, paving stones, banisters etc.
3. Custom made and standardized reinforced concrete sub units for construction in the local and the export market.
4 Providing silica for a local run solar panel factory and or Refining silica for electronics
5. Providing for a local cement factory.
6. Meeting the global warming needs of the Caribbean by exporting locally made concrete wave breakers, sea wall slabs etc.
7. Exporting locally manufactured reinforced concrete slabs for the construction bridges, jetty, highway flyovers.
8. Value added pre-mixed cement products of various specifications using our various rock and sand types (just add water)
9. Manufacturing bathroom, wall and floor tiles
10. A minor portion should be the exportation of raw quarry material.
We have to get out of the mentality that all we can do is give our resources away and then turn around and import them.
iF WE ALLOW THIS NEW ACTING G.M SOME TIME AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THINGS WILL CHANGE.THIS GUT HAS ALOT OF GOOD EXECUTED PROJECTS TO HIS NAME. THE SOUFRIERE SULFUR SPRING ROAD,THE FIRST LEG OF THE GOODWILL ROAD,THE WARNER ROAD, VIELLECASE ROAD,MA PRINCE GOODHOPE,ROSS BLVD AND SO MANY MANY MORE.I JUST THINK THAT ALL THIS MAN NEED IS MONEY. I BELIEVE THAT’S SO TRUE.LET’S WORK AROUND THIS GUY.
These are good suggestions and this also reflects how the public service in general operates. Its an old machinery implemented or left behind by the British. We are in competitive times with so many contingency factors. We have many intelligent people in our country who can do the job and we should quit having people from overseas (Consultants) coming in to tell us what we should do…..Dominica will indeed be a better place on par with the rest…
SOME OF US CAN TALK SO MUCH BUT VERY LITTLE ACTION. SOME OF THE REMARKS ARE NOT PRACTICAL SINCE PWC IS THE ARM OF THE GOV’NT.
HOW CAN THINK OF A CEMENT PLANT,BALISTERS,PAVING STONES? ARE YOU JOKING SIR? THE ONLY POSITIVE THING I CAN SEE IS CONCRETE WAVE BREAKERS.SOMETIMES WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE MARKET BEFORE MAKING THOSE REMARKS.
Reggie the position is available if u good enough to handle it i.e
they can Do it, WITH GOVERNMENT SUPPORT!
Very sound suggestions. Just to bad public works is not looking at he bigger picture. Hope that they see it soon and make the co operation more viable. There is so much that they can do.
GOOD POINT. WHEN WE GET THE RIGHT PEOPLE AT THE TOP WE WILL START
Good sounding ideas. But why does the Public Works Corporation need to provide these products/services? Is it impractical for a private firm to do the same?
I totally agree, perhaps some of the investment into the state house could be diverted for that purpose. I remember in soufriere estate used water to turn the mechanism for crushing limes, maybe we can use solar
I think you should apply for the job as General Manager
