JUST DENNIS: Too Busy Snoring

Dennis Joseph
Dennis Joseph

It is a very poor democratic system that allows one side of the House of Assembly mainly the government side to expel a member of the other side from the House upon their whim and fancy.  Clearly such a system is open to future tit for tat abuse.  The attack on Danny Lugay was nothing more than a calculated, regimented show of power and punishment.  It was a warning shot across the bow of we the people with its accompanying explosion loudly sounding out, “We run things. Don’t mess with us or else.”  Lugay was arrested and charged for remarks made on a political platform for which he apologised, but a regime smelling blood remained unsatisfied.  Not waiting for the court trial and disregarding the creed that a person is innocent until proven guilty the PM warned Lugay to stay out of the House of Assembly and when he showed up used the Labour Party majority to kick him out.  It will get worse if the DLP guys are sent back in for a fourth term in government.  Personally I find that voting in a party four consecutive times is denying the nation of new talent and new ideas remaining stuck in the past and even unsuccessful way of doing things. The only party in Waitukubuli that was voted in for four consecutive terms was the Labour Party 1961, 1966, 1970, 1975 and in the fourth term the political upheaval of May 29th 1979 occurred.  The real shot across our bows is what that lesson of history has taught; three terms are strenuous and four terms, “is trouble we looking for.”

Things cannot change except we the people change them but we have to first wake up from slumber.  The rulers know that the people seemingly love their political party more than their Church and will forgive even the worst of transgressions by their favourite politician without asking for a confession or repentance.   For the most part the rulers are confident that despite their huge failings and false promises rather than hold them to account the people just prefer to snooze, “Me papa wake me up when it’s over.”   However according to Moms Mabley, “If you always do what you always did then you will always get what you always got.” We  were sleeping when GON Emmanuel and his wife  both in their 80’s  fled as best they could from their firebombed home on a dark pre-dawn Christmas morning three years ago and remained fast asleep when someone confessed to that attempted murder and to this date the police have done zilch.  It was Christmas morning when we celebrate the coming of Christ and this Christian nation closed eyes pretending to be asleep.  This proves that a Christian nation is not necessarily a nation of Christians.  We were snoring when the PM Skerrit proclaimed that no law not even the Constitution can stop him.  We were dreaming in   colours when Monell Williams a UWP election candidate was savaged at a DLP rally in her village of St Joseph.  We were turning in the bed when a platform speaker on the Labour Party platform asked for the elimination of the opposition groups in the same manner Obama goes after members of Al Qaeda.  We were in lullaby mood when retired Chief Justice Alleyne was ordered by the DLP minister to his toilet to hide himself and shut up because he expressed his opinion on a matter of national interest.  We were in sleep heaven when the present President Savarin was installed surrounded by the security forces in battle gear complete with war rifles.  It was too late in the night to hear the PM say that after his dual citizenship case he would deal with “dem fellas win, lose or draw.”  We remain with eyes wide open shut when we see the corruption around the electoral process and the falsely over-packed list of voters.  We pretend not to know that the courts of justice have become totally unrespected playgrounds; we didn’t hear their boast that the bishop of the Catholic Church is ‘their boy,’ and we are still in sleep wasteland when the media is securely placed under the control of the rulers.

Yet that is how absolutism begins its journey by controlling all the public voice and so while we were sleeping the Labour Party went about a job of acquiring control of the media.  The Labour Party seems to have   conquered most of the media outlets – DBS Radio, KairiFM, Vibes Radio, Marpin TV, GIS TV channel, and of late the Chronicle newspaper.  Even the last radio station still standing Q95FM which has limited antenna outreach seems stuck in a state of strenuously attempting to prove itself as free and balanced even going overboard repeating as news propaganda releases already aired on other radio stations.  It may not be long before an offer that cannot be refused is made for purchase of the Q95 station as the rulers relentlessly pursue total media control.

In this time when a pen can be in fact a video camera, phone tapping is the sport of local spies and private emails have become public mail those who are specially hired to do spying are having a feast every day. Rulers who are elected by democratic processes have used those very means to move toward totalitarianism safe in the knowledge that it is difficult for any opposition to rouse the people who insist on remaining in a state of sleepwalking.  They usually surround themselves with slow-witted men and women and a few clever ones with fluid tongues and facile minds who tell us what is right and wrong and who are there to be out on the media frontline.  The PM has been well manipulated into taking complete control of weak-kneed members of his cabinet and his handlers taking control of him.  They keep the people blissfully snoring and at the legally required election time get the PM to proclaim that he is divinely sent for a high purpose and make promises convincing the gullible that he will make them rise so high   that they will have to walk down steps to get to heaven.  The reality is that these promises are never fulfilled but are used to fool the people all the time and every election time the people line up to get fooled.

Some speculate an election day on November 27th  the birthday of the PM’s son which may explain what has become known as the goo -goo gaa -gaa silliness of the May 5th DLP rally at St Joseph, but whatever the date, with this vast array of media outlets the opposition has its work cut out.  The DLP at its disposal can spread its propaganda at will covering the people of Waitukubuli with a blanket of select information, disinformation and misinformation while we are sleeping.  The agents of the Prime Minister can use the radio against all they do not like whether because of politics or simply for personal reasons. The arrest of Danny Lugay by the ruling regime was orchestrated in the same manner the dictatorially inclined regimes of the world have done for years.  First destroy the person’s name by making a mountain out of a molehill or over exaggerating error and then move to destroy the person.  This also serves the purpose of diverting the attention of the people from real issues to “drama, bef and tory.”  That demolition job is done through the media mainly radio which is largely under their control.   The effect of this is usually public fear and intimidation, tentative talk and inaction.

However the wise Chinese saying, ‘The same water that floats the boat sinks the boat’ can apply in this case and Danny Lugay may well be the jutting rock on which the boat smashes it.  The Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes band of old sings the message lines, “Wake up everybody no more sleeping in bed,” but we the people did not hear that did we? No, we were just too busy snoring.

Simeone as Emile Zapato and others like Real Porssie, Fast N Furious there is only one paragraph about the Danny Lugay matter and Dennis Joseph did not indicate that he supported nor disagreed with Danny’s statement. He however said that Danny apologized for the statement made and that is the truth. He also like many others said that the decision to boot Danny out of parliament even after he apologized was or is an act of power abuse.
The article however covered many more issues of government abuse and inefficiency yet the above mentioned characters conveniently avoid those issues. As usual the Labor Party -ites cannot handle the truth so they would rather create distractions.
The article is about the people fast asleep while the country is going to hell in a Labor Party basket that is covered with decorating of lies, threats, victimization, money laundering, fire bombing , gunmen on flight to Dominica with lies from National Security on the reason for the gunman visit; bobol, vote buying, poverty heightening.

It is laughable that uwp and its supporters are trying to condone Danny Lugay’s actions.

Wait till the shoe is on the other foot. You all are digging a hole which you all will eventually fall in.

This is not about love for country and democracy this is about selfish gains.

I noticed that Mr. Joseph chose to remain silent on certain issues. Yours sir, is a campaign of hate and personal vendetta against the ruling party. This makes you come across as being very bitter. If you cannot be a little fair then what’s the point. Remember, for all you professed Christians, Jesus advised us to turn the other cheek. Then and only then you can convince someone that you are setting a better example and if you have faith the good lord will see you through.

Lugal makes the law as a member of the house, He broke the law so he should face the consequences. Dennis you were a victim of May 29th so you know better.
The Government is responsible for Law and Order, it has an 18 to 3 mandate from the people.
Remember that terrorism began in the middle east when the clerics began preaching violence to obtain political power. Why don’t you contest the next election and win so you can change things so DLP will no have an other 20 year run. This is normal practice, a public officer is arrested, then suspended. He is free to challenge the decision. This is not something to get violent about. The UWP is free to buy all the radio stations if they want to, no one is preventing them.
The DLP has survived for almost 70 years because democratic people want them and voted them in and they won several elections by wide majority.
The big question that need research is that if he is found qilty what happens then?

For Grenada—The Invasion That Almost Was
    27 April 1981, Dominica.

The detailed and excellently written material below is quoted from Matthew A. Lauder’s report “The Far Right wing Movement in Southwest Ontario: An Exploration of Issues, Themes, and Variations” unless specifically noted.

“Droege and Dominica: The US-Canadian Extremist Connection”

“It is a tale so bizarre that newspapers called it a ‘comic book escapade ’ and local police named it the ‘Bayou of Pigs.’ What makes the story so incredible is that, although it read like a Hollywood plot, the invasion, according to FBI anti-terrorism specialists, had a high rate of success. Commenting at the time, Eugenia Charles, the Prime Minister of Dominica, stated that the island’s police force was unprepared for the planned invasion and that ‘a lot of people would have died.’ ”

“On 27 April 1981, two Canadians, Wolfgang Walter Droege and Larry Lloyd Jacklin, along with eight Americans, were arrested in New Orleans by US government agents in an early morning raid. Later, four more Canadians would be arrested, including Marion McGuire, James McQuirter, Charles Yanover, and Harold Woods.”

“All of the Canadians and Americans arrested were members of the far right with the exception of Yanover and Woods. Yanover is a well-known Mafia crime figure from Toronto while Woods was a psychiatric patient apparently in love with McGuire who was arrested in Dominica when he tried to break McQuirter out of prison.”

“In Dominica, Patrick ‘PJ’ John, the former Prime Minister, Major Fred Newton, the commander of the army, three additional army officers, and two civilians (including Dennis Joseph, the former manager of the Dominican broadcasting service) were arrested. In total, more than 20 people were convicted of conspiracy charges in Canada, the US, and Dominica.”

    OVERTHROW PLOT

By 17 March 1981, Charles unveiled a plot to overthrow the government and its Dominican Freedom Party (DFP) by an armed mercenary group.

The plot was an invasion attempt, called ‘Operation Red Dog.’ It involved Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazi groups, American and Canadian mercenaries, and underworld elements from the United States. According to Canadian researcher Matthew A. Lauder,

[A] group of white supremacists and neo-Nazis planned to travel from New Orleans to Dominica on a chartered boat, land on the island at night using rubber boats, [according to a contract found on the boat] meet up with former Prime Minister [Patrick] John and his guerrilla force of disgruntled army veterans and Rastafarian rebels, and then lay waste to the police force and political leaders and install a junta government.

. . . the primary purpose of the invasion was not to establish a base of operations for white supremacists (although this was a secondary concern), but rather to set-up a series of lucrative businesses, including cocaine manufacturing plants, casinos, hotels, brothels, and a gunrunning operation, and to exploit the country’s labor and natural resources for the benefit of the mercenaries and the financial backers.

A detailed report, primarily by Matt Lauder, is available at Mercenary Activities – Dominica

Patrick John, a former Prime Minister, and senior officers of the Defence force were arrested with the assistance of the Barbadian Defence Force (BDF). Of the more than 20 arrested, and later tried and convicted, were Army Commander Major Fred Newton, three Army officers, and two civilians, one of which was Dennis Joseph, a former manager of the Dominican broadcasting service. Included in that count were people from Canada and the United States. Laws to enhance security, a Prevention of Terrorism Act and a State Security Act, were put in place.

I suppose if Denis had apologized for his role in the planned invasion of Dominica to restore Patrick John as head of government, he (Denis Joseph) should not have been arrested and charged for his crime against the people of Dominica.

In days gone by, we use to hear the talk, if not Skeritt, then who. A DELIEVER in the name of Lennox Linton has decided to do as Moses did a long time ago, deliver his people from the bondage of Skeritt. He said, he can produce 5000 jobs in three years. He said, he can build an international airport. He said, he will remove all duties on construction materials. He said, he has the best political team ever assembled in Dominica and possibly the Eastern Caribbean. He said, he can grow the economy by 5%. He said, there will be no corruption in Government, no nepotism, a cabinet of ten Ministers and he said, all Dominicans will be proud to be Dominicans. Having said all that, it would appear Dominicans are not listening and are folded in their warm beds snoring heavily. According to a local saying, they have broken sticks in their ears.

This article is replete with misquotations, repetition of unfounded allegations, lacking in diligent research and named references, except for the dog ears of popular entertainers who, to that writer appear to have set the standard for modern western philosophical thought. “The long habit of not thinking something wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right” – Thomas Paine.
We are not going to wish our problems away. Danny Lugay created his own dilemma and none in his party were man enough to inform the public that this behavior violated party rules. Maybe he was appointed judge and executioner for all the unbelievers and non-UWP supporters in this country.

Was it Jesus who said that his apostles fell asleep while they should have been taking care of business. Well if the apostles fell asleep how can I blame Father T, Evangelist A, bishops and other pastors for deliberately snoring while a bunch of criminals are poisoning and plundering.
As for the police, the electoral commission, the IPO, the president all of them drunk and disorderly. Some to lazy to get up so they do the 1&2 in the same bed

Denise you know what they call “cockma” . Well Denise I use to get cockma” and when cockma get you you trying to get up from the bed but you cyan get up- you kind of half awake and sometimes in the sleep you swinging and grabbing and broda noten happening. Well plenty Dominicans have the cockma you know and the real cockma is the hand outs- the toilets, the rum, the plywood etc.Plenty of them trying to get out of the cockma sleep but they can’t cause mepwis will fall on them just like the assassination gang turn on Marlene when she call them out on the radio. That is not to say that Marlene getting anything from them. They just have her as a mouth organ with keys- doh and doh sharp or doh flat

Dennis Iam sure they see you as the menace- Dennis the Menace. Lang Mama have a little vibes for thee Dominican people you know. Check this out.

The same Laborites that will defend all the wrong doing by the administration particularly the robbing of the treasury, passport scamming, money laundering found it very necessary to go report a certain principal of a school. In fact DNO the principal sent in a resignation and she did that with her union representative – she claim she does not want to answer any more questions. Almost $100,000 of the school money she took and that include the savings of the poor kids and $25000 that was given to the principal by the corrupt one and that money was given with no accountability. In fact when the principal got the check she told the corrupt one secretary dont tell the teachers.
I say all this to show that cockma is alive cause the same laborites who wanted the principal’s head reported the principal by writing a letter to the top brass because the laborites were so upset- parents cant get their kids money etc. These very same laborats will defend corruption in government like a “mother fowl”will defend it’s chicks. when you have cockma there is no snoring at all.

    Dennis,you again?
Dennis Skerrit and the government were elected by the people majority-18 to 3. Don’t you think there was a reason for the people doing so?Compared to the 41/2 years of the UWP?
Dennis for your information we are not going to leave what we have for something that we haven’t; especially when we see nothing encouraging from the other side to convince us. All we see from you and those you support is jealousy and hate. Remember you had your turn and try to remember your role at that time. Today you trying to play nice boy.
Dennis what you don’t want to see will happen again. Five more years for this Labour government and we are prepared to to let them rule till we ready to have them(it)changed
Dennis not because you repented of your sin make you believe you do not have to pay for it. Danny was wrong. Once could be forgotten but repeating twice is serious business. Danny’s apology was of face value. Even after his apology, listen to the manner he,Lennox and the rest of the UWWPites(like you)are addressing the matter…So because he apologize he must not pay the consequences? How long? Not long…Labour Rules!

You are full of BULL FAST N FURIOUS..What Lugay said might have been wrong if he deliberately called someone’s name when he wade his statements. Your DLP PM and some of his cohorts has in the past made worse statements and none of you are bold enough to let them know their statements were wrong. How the heck can the leader of a country state ” no law or constitution can stop him” and then if that wasn’t enough he told citizens of DA ” go to hell”. On Monday try going to him, that is your PM and let him know that this is not how the leader of a civilized country even though he is upset with residents. Then post on DNO how that meeting went..and maybe you can say that Dennis Joseph’s commentary is wrong.

A brilliant masterpiece! How long will we sit back and look while our citizens are asleep? So many issues yet this Government has chosen to deal with but what suits them.
G.O.N Emmanuel case which is three years now cannot be solved because of those who are involved. Do you know who are they? Your guess is as good as mine. Dominicans wake up!
It is now Danny’s turn but yours might just be next for maybe the simplest of things. It might just be that they overheard your conversation speaking against them and you might just be victimized and this can even apply to you die hard supporters. So many things was said by the ruling Government yet NO apology. Is this the image of a christian nation? Where are our pastors, priest, intellectuals, bishops, clergy men? Are they asleep snoring?

If only I didn’t know. I would think that Dennis is allegedly smoking something. Least we for get when the shoes was on the other foot. Politics aside. Personally. I shudder to comprehend that while I came forward with other comrades to serve my country and protect life and property and to carry out my duties without fear or favor. A certain head of state with his band of mercenaries were planning to swallow our country. Yes I was snoring when the members of our defunct military came to our barracks to main, kill, and take us away in our sleep. Yes need I say more????! It`s like yesterday and still sweating from that close call that`s why I submit that my good friend Dennis allegedly taking something or his brains is shrinking. But my friend those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Or like Michael Jacking sang” take a look at the mirror”. Mr Dennis and make a change, or else you will always remain part of the problem. I admire your fortitude to write or voice your opinion, but my friend when the full story is not told I have no choice but to like you less. Leo Austin , Deagazo must be rolling in their graves do not let them Down brother. Better luck next time. Remember technology can be a double edge sword that’s why I can respond to your blind sided what ever you may want to call it.! All the way from North America. Good luck going forward! Still love you brother.

#D/can# as per my namesake, I laughed with gusto at ur opening statement.
In the USA where I take i,t U live, Many states have voted for marijuana to be sold legally. Places like Colorado initiated this phenomenon, NJ, NY etc are in the process partially amongst other.
During debates etc on this topic it is often said:” Marijuana for recreational use or medical use”. here in our DA many members of our society are have been recreating for yrs.
Who knows he may well be on either for more than four years recreationally, medically or politically. Lol!
In DA we have to substances that are widely abused Marijuana and politics . So should we state Marijuana for recreational ,political and medical use?
You too# Dominican# must have burned many a pound back in the day literally and inhaled in the process. Like the much loved former president said. Lol! To add to it He said “don’t ask don’t tell.” You are now telling us lots of stuff. Sell out.!
Soon you’ll tell us :” I did not collaborate with these men in 1979.” recall his piece on Monica?
I think I know who you are #Dominican#

    August 1, 2014

When will you guys really do something good for DA. It is clear that Lugay allegedly did something contrary to law and order. He is charged before the Court and like any other Govt. employee (he is bing paid a salary by the Govt.) he should be suspended. Politicians must be held accountable for their action or inactions and a mere apology isn’t enough when they brake the law. Isn’t that the real change that we seek? It appears as long as it is someone that we support they should be given a free ride. We seek and preach change but only want it for others. Do as I say but not as I do. Go ahead and defend our own when they do wrong but punish and lam base those that aren’t our own. What a change we all should hope for.

  54. Oh Yes
    August 1, 2014

I love Denise’s writing skills. No one does it like he’s able to. His perspective may be slightly biased because of his personal experiences and views. However, there is lots of truth and wisdom in these expressions. If we allow ourselves to fall further into chaos when we have the power to change things and fail to do it then we have ourselves to blame. Premeditated actions that lead to division, misallocation of resources, deliberate compromise, injustice, fear and chastisement denegrate a society. You don’t have to love the Opposition but you have to dislike injustice in all its forms and manifestations.
    Dominica deserves better than that.
