    Critical moving forward, I concur with this statement.”We need a new Committee for National Salvation that can unify the people and abate the divisiveness of politics to enable us to deal effectively with this emergency.” To abate the divisiveness of our politics we MUST get rid of this corrupt government. It is not working, it will never work. Hurricanes come to us once a season every year. This corrupt Labour hurricane is with us everyday & every night for the past 17yrs with more destruction to come. This corrupt well established Labour wind is killing Dominica on a daily basis. We need to get rid this inept Skerrit and his corrupt Labour government. This article is well timed and meaningful. Dominicans must wake up.

    With only very limited access to the internet, I cannot find out more about this committee. However, regardless of their concerns, I doubt if the members have first hand knowledge of life in Dominica beyond hurricanes David and Maria.

    Who is going to be bestow the magical powers on this new Committee of National salvation to allow it abate political divisiveness and unify the people? Is this writer suggesting that we get rid of how we elect our government?

      In this island especially there is a tendency for people to focus on personalities rather than on the argument, which is what this commentator is attempting to do. It would be so helpful if you could make a contribution to the debate that this article is trying to generate. Leave personalities aside for a moment. The issues that confront us are too serious for us to distract ourselves by attacking the messenger almost as a knee-jerk reaction. I expect that the Committee members will reveal who they are in due course. But for now, please tell us what you think of the issues raised and how we can put our country on a stronger footing.

        Why are you afraid of focusing on personalities? This is a democracy and people have a right to choose their leaders. What is been suggested is rubish as the writer is not saying how this Supreme new Committee will be appointed. All his/her suggestions seems to be premised on the idea that the new Committee of National Salvation will create a utopian state……just more empty words.

    This article is well written and is so meaningful. It should be republished on a weekly basis as a reminder of what we need to start doing and continuing doing for our island. We need to take our blindfolds off and stop waiting for Jesus and God to put things right for us. God helps those who help themselves. We have to start actioning things. Just imagine if we all started respecting nature. Keeping our island clean. Being able to feed ourselves. Start to create our own businesses. Educating ourselves outside of the ‘education system’. Helping and loving ourselves. Just imagine how powerful we can become as a nation, to the envy of the world! But I guess we’ll just continue as we are. Using so much plastic. Throwing items in our rivers. Fighting over politics and religion. And envying each other instead of encouraging and loving each other. Let’s change for the better. Starting from today.

        Utopia plays an important role in human affairs. Nearly all the great strides that have been made by humanity have started as utopias which are later taken for granted and become common place. That is why in the French students coined the slogan “Be a realist; demand the impossible”. The commentator “Me” should ponder the words of Oscar Wilde, one of the most brilliant English minds of the 19th century
        “A map of the world that does not include Utopia is not worth glancing at, for it leaves out the one country at which Humanity is always landing. And when Humanity lands there, it looks out, and seeing a better country, sets sail. Progress is the realization of Utopias”.
