The celebration of Father’s Day or Mother’s Day is nowhere in the Bible

Honouring our parents have never been designated to be an annual event, on any one specific day in the year.

No specific day to do such has ever been found to have come from the Bible. Any set date to do such is a tradition originating not only from man’s own imaginary carnal thinking and findings, but it is a practice which is just not found to be supported anywhere in the book of our Heavenly Father’s every spoken word to mankind.

In the absence of any given specific date in Exodus 20:12 on which to honour our parents the most, the conclusive understanding that must be agreed upon of this passage of scripture in the Bible is that it is expected of us, by command, to honour our parents everyday alike, irrespective of the circumstance.

This is how TMH feels about you all celebrating all these man made holidays including mother and fathers day including your birthday, argue with TMH about this, I am only letting you know how TMH feels about all this.

2 CORINTHIANS 4 ( Original 1611 KING JAMES BIBLE ) 1 Therefore, seeing we haue this ministery, as we haue receiued mercie wee faint not: 2 But haue renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftines, nor handling the word of God deceitfully but by manifestation of the trueth, commending our selues to euery mans conscience, in the sight of God. 2 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which beleeue not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine vnto them. 5 For we preach not our selues, but Christ Iesus the Lord, and our selues your seruants for Iesus sake. 6 For God who commaunded the light to shine out of darkenes, hath shined in our hearts, to giue the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, in the face of Iesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4: 1,2,3,4,5,6 ( Original KING JAMES BIBLE of 1611 )

As I sit here and read these comments, the more I feel like I wanna throw up. It hurts me to see so many people blow the Most High off. Comments like,” what’s wrong with me setting aside one day to give thanks to our mother. I love my mother with all my heart. But I love God more. Celebrating mothers and fathers day seem like we are going against the Most High will. In fact we are. Just sit back and observe what’s going on in the world today. People celebrating Christmas thanksgiving Easter labor day memorial day etc. Last time I checked the Bible told us what HOLY DAY (not holiday) we are to celebrate. You have the Sabbath Day, the new moon, and Pasch(not Easter). So for people to get on here expressing their feelings over a mother’s day tells me that most if not all comments come from gentiles. As an Israelite, yeah ISRAELITE (specifically from the tribe of Judah), not black nor African american, Im wise enough to know that we shouldn’t be dealing with those days

LaMont, You are absolutely correct. People have been told since the OT to not observe the way of the heathen yet some professing Christians can’t put down their pagan observances. We are still supposed to be observing the Holy Days of God and not the pagan infused Holidays of men, as well as the correct Sabbath. Which is sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. Some want to try and wiggle out of these God given laws with the excuse that Jesus established a new covenant with mankind. Even Jesus himself said this: 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Matthew 5:17 KJV. Too many people don’t think this through that everything in the Bible is Jesus’ own words. Why would he attempt to change his own inspired words to mankind? To pacify a bunch of people that want to celebrate a ton of catholic false doctrines that so-called Protest(ants) think are relevant? They aren’t protesting anything.

Well, my Brother… Today, people have been geared to watch, be entertained and have their souls deviated from true enlightenment. The enlightenment that can only come from relentless research in the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Christ, The Messiah left instructions, direction, and methods of his way, not ours which we can use to guide our understanding and actions. Truly, there is not a word in the BIBLE in the Old or New Testament about easter, father’s day, mother’s day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. These are all established pagan catholic holiday, not Holy Days… Once, I did the research and don’t get me wrong… It really never ends… But once you read instead of being passive and derelict to teaching yourself to what is in plain view… Education is Elevation, Knowledge is Power… The Power to understand and practice fairness, humbleness and know that “His way is better than your way…”

People, please STOP celebrating these PAGAN holidays! The Roman Catholic Church has ushered in a ball of lies. How deep is their rabbit hole???

“Mother’s Day dates back to ancient cultures in Greece and Rome. In both cultures, mother goddesses (Queen of Heaven). were worshiped during the springtime with religious festivals. The ancient Greeks paid tribute to the powerful goddess Rhea, the wife of Cronus, known as the Mother of the Gods (Queen of Heaven). Similarly, evidence of a three-day Roman festival in Mid-March called Hilaria, to honor the Roman goddess Magna Mater, or Great Mother, dates back to 250 BCE.
***Mother’s Day always falls on the second Sun-day of May, and like so many other holidays rooted in pagan sun-worship including Father’s Day which always falls on the third Sun-day of June, usually fall on the day named in honor of their most powerful god — The Sun!” We are so naive. We follow Mans teachings. We do not look up where these Holidays all came from.. Why?

    • Elizabeth
      May 6, 2015

You are so right. Jesus said do not follow mans teaching. I do not celebrate any Holidays. I look up everything,Because the Churches We have Trusted in are telling us a bunch of lies. They know where these Holidays Stem from and still celebrate them .. Even Sunrise Services… Doesn’t the Name “Sun Rise” say something about that day it was Sun Worship?? Pagans Celebrate all the Holidays. I will not be part of what the Lord feels is an abomination to him and his Father. If people cared they would change their ways. I was raised Baptist. It took me a very long time to change. But I did. I know in my Heart that I did the right thing getting away from these lies. “You shall have no other Gods before Me. 4″You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

Late reply but i hope this gets a read. Sad article. When we have something positive going, there is always someone to find fault. I will love my parents everyday of the year, treat them special every day, but treat them in an ‘out of the way’ way which I cannot do everyday. like sending something special such as a card, especially as i live out of state. I don’t think anyone is going to buy a card for their parent everyday of the year. Mum’s usually work their butt off. that’s our job. So what is the problem if I put my mum to sit down on that day and i cook, or my children do the same for me. What is the problem in putting my everyday schedule aside to pamper her one day of the year? There are lots of more positive that a person can do which is not in the bible. I would advise the author to become a positive person.

The main concern is God forbids it. You either do what God says or you make your own rules like many try to do. There is no middle ground with God’s laws. They are not burdensome. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:29-30 KJV.

I understand you and others Feel like Mothers and Fathers should be celebrated . We are to Honor and Respect our Parents Not Put anyone on a Pedestal . Did you know we are not suppose to call anyone Father except God? “The Problem here stems from Where this Tradition came from… ” And it is not from the Lord or his Father. As I posted it above.
** Let’s consider though that Mother’s Day is a spring celebration. And others around the world celebrate Mother’s Day in a distinctive way that involves worship to Mother Nature or Mother Earth. For example, the first rites of Spring are held over Mother’s Day weekend by Pagans in New England. It is a Pagan gathering that started in 1979 on Mother’s Day weekend and involves pagans, witches, and other participants from all over the world. Magical rituals are conducted during this…

      MOTHER’S & FATHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day dates back to ancient cultures in Greece and Rome. In both cultures, mother goddesses (Queen of Heaven). were worshipped during the springtime with religious festivals.

As Christianity spread throughout Europe, the celebration of the “Mother Church” replaced the pagan tradition of honoring mythological goddesses. The fourth Sunday in Lent (Weeping for Tammuz), a 40-day fasting period before Easter, became known as Mothering Sunday. To show appreciation for their mothers, they often brought gifts or a “mothering cake” (Jeremiah 7:18) and over time, it began to coincide with the celebration of the Mother…

Mr. Paul must have had some real issues with his parents when he was younger. I really don’t see the big deal in setting aside a “day” to honor our mothers and fathers. I don’t have either of them now but i miss them and always think of them. They can never be replaced: gone for good. So Mr. Pa-ul if u still got yours, be a gentleman and show some extra LOVE when that day comes along. Don’t worry about what may come out of the wallet, just think of what came out of them to make u who u are today. (oh, wearing a gold ring on the finger after one gets married is nowhere in the bible either, but ….. don’t we…..) Just thought I would mentioned it.

Of course it is not mentioned in the Bible that we ought to celebrate Mothers’ and Fathers’ day but the mere fact it says honor your mother and our father is good enough to designate a day for this. It is not mentioned to celebrate birthdays. It only mentioned peoples’ age but that does not prevent us from celebrating our birthday so what is so wrong with honoring our Mothers and Fathers on that day. I understand this should be done daily but for those people that miss out on the daily at least they get the chance on that day to make amends with parents. I think this in fact reminds us of the value of our earthly parents.

Of course our laws are based on old Greek and Roman laws. Who do you think they are? They are Europeans. For your information the slave masters did not teach us to read any thing but these European languages. When our forefathers were taken into captivity they were not Christians. They were Hebrews, who kept the laws and commandments of the Holy One of Israel. When they were brought into captivity they were forced to denounce their God and adopted Pagan gods.

They were also the cream of the crop who were brought to the Western world. That means they could read and built all the Empires of Africa such as Mali and Songhay. Don’t think that we were stupid and needed to be taught by Europeans. How do you think America was built? Don’t you know that the slaves also built America?

According to a brother called Ben Ami, “before the coming of the European, Africans had actual cultural traditions far superior to that of the white slave masters. African builders, astrologers, artisans and engineers had already created wonders which would baffle the European mind for a thousand generations. The brother goes on to say that the West and North African educational institutions were turning out geniuses at a rate unimaginable to today’s world. The children began their educational process at age three and by the time they had completd what would be termed elementary school today, they had an intelligence level beyond the highest degree attainable in today’s instutions of learning.” GOD THE BLACK MAN AND TRUTH” (pp 151-152)

Everything that was taught to them when they were enslaved was under the old Greek and Roman laws. The days of the week, the calendar, and almanac are all forms of Roman teachings. These days were called the First day Second day, third day and so on according to the Bible. All the days of the week and months of the year were named after greek and Roman Gods. For example:

Sunday day of worship of the Sun God
Monday Moon day, day of worship of the moon
Tuesday pagan day of worship of the planet Mars
Wednesday heathan day of worship of the pagan god Mercury
Thursday heathen day of worship of the pagan god Jupiter (Thor)
Friday Friggs, Scandinavian goddess; wife of Odin and goddess of marriage, love, and the
    heart
Saturday heathen day of worship of the pagan god or planet Saturn ( Ben Ami, pp149-150)

The Catholic churches were tools that were used to changed our forefathers’ names, giving them Christian names and Surnames. Even today, a lot of Africans have Christians names, depending on whether they are christians. and Arfican surnames as long as they became Christians.

Our parents are precious and irreplaceable and are to be honoured daily and not to be remembered only for a particular day of the year. We ought ro appreciate, love and cherissh them daily.

you’re a doing alot of talking but you really aren’t saying anything.

you pretty much clarified what i said about the slave masters teaching us to read and write by stating that they only taught us to european languages. last time i checked the english language is european!

in regards to all that other mumbo jumbo, all people have their own cultural traditions, their own language that they could read and write using hieroyglyphs or wateva method so i really am left to question the relevance of your “story”.

Really, if you are still mad at the white man/catholics, i suggest you get off his computer, OS, and stop using any other form of technology that he either invented or developed, change your name back to something of your beloved African culture, remove the white man’s clothes and go live in the bush!

However i see it fit to remind you that the africans are the ones who traded their own people as slaves for guns! yeah…thats how much the “homeland” loved our slave ancestors!

It was not the African sold there own people, the African sold the Hebrews to the white man, being they where from isreal, that flees to Africa from there homeland, for they where fleeing from slavery, and went right back to it.
And with this being said, the European came and killed, yes broke the commandments of God. Killed, murdered the Indians and obtained what they call the usa now. So before you speak in ignorants, this land is God, and whomever wants to reside here and God blesses them to do so. It is not us clothing or feEdina them. It is the Almighty God. Sure, the Bible does not designate a day to celebrate mothers or fathers, nor does it give a date to celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ, nor does it give a date to celebrate Christ birth. So what!!!

I think that out of 365 days of the year we should and must honor our parents but theres that special date that I get to give my mom a gift for being mom, and also for fathers.. I mean, is God going to send me to hell for that.. oh pls… get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not all Bible readers agree with the way that the message in this article is delivered. In fact, when people have such opinions then use the Bible as a means of condemnation, it reflects poorly on everyone and everything that is associated with the Bible.

You the writer, could have accomplished a lot more by using a wiser approach. You could have educated others on the roots of the holiday, and by exposing the roots, it would then be evident that the celebration of Mothers day stems from polytheistic religious principles. Principles that stand in opposition of Judeo-Christian values. Then, you could have introduced the scripture of your choice and explain how it applies.

In Exodus 20:12 the Bible says that we should honor our parents:

Honor (AE spelling) in the vernacular of biblical times is likened to Respect in the modern day. It would be absurd to be disrespectful to your parents for 364 days of the year and then on Mothers day show her respect. Likewise to show her “more” respect on mothers day as opposed to the other 364 days of the year. Honoring your parents is not simply bestowing gifts upon them on a specific day, instead it is living a life that shows reverence to and respect for them.

in using that approach, your readers have an opportunity to learn something new, and you can express your point without having an air of superiority with a tone of condemnation and judgmentalism. All of which are characteristics that are not befitting of a Christian.

It is amazing how ignorant and small minded some people, and more specifically some Dominicans can be.

Someone actually has a problem with a day being set aside to honour Mother’s and Father’s? Just because a day is set aside that does not mean that they should not be honoured at all times. It simply means you make a special effort to appreciate them on that day. To give back to those that brought you into this world and raise you and prepare you for life.

If Mother’s and Father’s day should be abolished because they are supposed to be honoured everyday then why do we as Christians celebrate the sabbath day when we should worship and honour God every waking second of our lives? Why set a day aside once a week to make a special effort to praise God and reflect upon our lives?

If we should not celebrate such days because it wasn’t mentioned in the bible then why are you using a computer to post this ridiculous article? There is no mention of using computers in the bible. Maybe you should move to zion and live in the bushes, or do like the Amish and shun all technology. That way the rest of us living in 2010 won’t have to read such rants.

Oh and to “Out of South City” did the bible ever specifically state that our original land is Africa? We all know that’s where we’re from, but since the bible doesn’t specify so should we deny that we are descendants of Africans?

I find it quite funny that this article identifies that the Bible does not designate a specific date for honoring our parents. This statement draws me back to the old adage of Christmas. You know what I’m getting at right? Why do we designate that day to honor Jesus Christ. At the last supper, Jesus asked that the designated few take bread and wine and that everyone remember him during this time. It was the eve of his death. Where is Christmas in the Bible? It’s all about tradition. We don’t question it because it’s fun and it makes us happy. Whether it coincides with Biblical texts seems to be of no consequence to some people. What can you do?

But even the bible itself said that if everything had to be written in it the world would not have enough space to hold books.

You think the bible can dictate everything?

The bible did not dictate that there should be a website call “dominicanewsonline” but here it is and people like the Augustus Paul can come and write foolish comments on it.

Here are just some of the things not found in the bible but is part of everyday life: the internet, democracy (actually democracy is a ancient Greek idea….weren’t the ancient Greeks pagans? Why is their political system the most widely use system of government today?) satellite TV. I could go on.

And oh by the way aren’t our laws are based on ancient Roman Laws?

I agree you have to respect your parents everyday but what is wrong if there is a special day where you can take them out for a nice meal somewhere. Is not every day you can take them to an expensive restaurant.

Sorry, not abundant fruits but FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control, righteousness, truth .

Really, what is the point of this commentary by Mr. Paul. It is writen to honor thy mother and father…

“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee,” Exodus 20:12. “Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee,”

So what if someone decided to magnify that by having a designated day/time to honor our mothers and fathers….This is not about mental slavery or anything, it is just about celebrating our mothers and fathers…..

Your logic is that if there is not mention about a special day in the Bible that it should not be celebrated….What if we decided to have a “Save our Youth Day” to address the ills of our society among the Youth? Would that be bad because there is nothing in the Bible where “Youth Day” is mentioned? I do not think so.

No one said that it was biblical, and no one said that you had to buy gifts for your parents. For mother’s day my mother never expected expensive gifts. We usually made her a home made card and even now that I’m an adult, I still don’t buy her expensive gifts. Some of you take everything and make it religious..geezzz!

@ Out of the South.. The only people that’s oppressing black people is those that believe that every white man is out to get them. “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery” Look around and see how many successful black people there are. Most of them don’t have that “We have Slave Masters in 2010” mentally! You bringing your self down cause those white people could care less.

Every day should be Mothers and Fathers day. The fact is we have become so unappreciated and ungrateful that someone saw it fitting to set aside two days called “Mothers and Fathers Day” to remind us of how important these two groups of people are to us. I must say it is a great gesture. Once in a while we need to be reminded about the things that really matters. My concern is that these two days have become too commercialized and so we have really loss the true meaning. May i suggest that we take some time to express our true feelings on those days not with a card written by someone whom we may not know but by ourself. Let it be a matter of the heart. Nothing is wrong with cooking that extra meal on that day or putting aside our personal agenda and focuss on the ones who brought us here. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all God fearing mothers.

Let me start with this question. Did christ tell us every living thing we should do in detail? Or did he give us a guide for living? Why are taking everything so literal and why are we so purile in our analysis of the bible? you quoted Exodus let me now ask you to look up Ephesians chapter 6 verses 1 to 3. Do you think if it was just something to be taken lightly it would be quoted more than once? We must stop looking at what the merchants do to maximize their profits and try to put some unfounded meaning in it. Let us look at the fact that the day was created to boost the importance of the honouring of Father and Mother and have us remember their significance and importance in our lives and the importance that God gave them.

ummm no one claimed that these days were designated by God or the Bible. We all know that we should honour our parents each and every day of the year but really, does it mother’s and father’s day hurt anyone? Teacher’s appreciation day was never mentioned either, but im guessing that is another celebration that should be abolished huh?

@out of south city, damn im hoping these merchants don’t fill your mind into buying their FOOD either! Showing appreciation to your parents doesn’t necessarily mean you go out and buy them something. It could mean a nice gesture. And how foolish do you think mature people are to still think that heaven is in the sky and hell is below the earth’s surface? Heaven and hell is this sense are simple metaphors as hell can be thought of as the eternal fire at the earth’s core. And what a way to show that you have been freed of mental slavery by thinking that every white man is out to get you. Oh did you know that the technology that you’re using right now is a white man’s hard work? and had the “slave masters” not taught the slaves to read and write you wouldnt be able to make this post. wow! i guess you’re jsut as brainwashed as the rest of us!

      Well Said Hmmm

It’s time we stop this nonsense talk about slave masters. We are the ones enslaving ourselves mentally with this foolishness.

  33. April 30, 2010

Damn! What is wrong about having a special day for parents. I agree it is not biblical, so what? We grumble about toomany petty things, does Mother or Fathers day, rob us of our salvation? Get a life people!

I agree, what’s wrong in dedicating a special day to the ones who scarified so much for us? Augustus Paul is just another hypocritical / one day a week Christian.

    Brother,

You are so right. It is a command in the Holy Scriptures to honour our mother and father that our days may be long upon the land which God has given us. (our original land of course- Africa).

You see, Christianity has made us to believe that the old Testament has been fulfilled so that all forms of Holidays, (not Holy Days), could be practised. Such as Birthdays, Easter, Halloween, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas, etc., so as the merchants would continue to fill our minds into buying their appealling products which have nothing to do with saving our souls from this hellish society.

Every Godly lifestyle has been camouflaged by those who have been controlling our minds into thinking that there is a heaven in the sky and hell is beneath the ground, while we are living hell right here on the face of this earth.

Just look at the destruction, disasters and diabolic thoughts that are disseminated throughout the earth.

It is high time that we realize that we have been brainwashed by the teachingsoft the slave masters. We must deliver ourselves from mental slavery.

If we are so literally guided by the bible, how come Catholics are the only Christian followers (i.e., followers of Jesus Christ) who still practice the regular breaking of bread, as Christ said at the last supper “do this in memory of me” and as the original apostles practiced this daily with all the first Christians (as detailed in the Acts of the Apostles)….?

Hey, I love my mother and my father ALL THROUGH THE YEAR, but I make a special effort to show it to them on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, their birthdays and Christmas. I love my husband all through the year, but I make a special effort on our Anniversary, his birthday, Father’s Day and Christmas to SHOW him how much I love him.

PS – Administrative Professionals day is not in the bible either… and guess what, the land that the Lord has given us, where we shall live long, is DOMINICA.

      Love in Christ.

perhaps if you visited a few more “Christian” churches you would realize that catholics are not the only ppl who partake in communion

I’m all for a healthy dose of ethnocentrism, but seemingly you do not know much about Christianity. Yes, it has been fulfilled, obviously not all of the prophecies, even some are after our time. No, it was not fulfilled so that we could celebrate all those holidays that you have listed above.

If we are going based on the Biblical Christianity. It does not call for the worship of any of the days that you have listed above. Easter included. Resurrection Sunday, is a different pot of fish.

Read and understand the WHOLE Bible FOR YOURSELF instead of gaining understanding it based on what others want to philosophize about it. There is a difference between Catholicism and Christianity, you also seem to be confusing them.

The Bible void of religious persuasion can be likened unto nothing else. I dare you to indulge.

      Much love.
