With all these unpredictable occurrences with climate change and pest and disease infestation, it can’t be to the disadvantage of anyone that we create an agro-tourism association in Dominica.
The main reason is to generate additional income, not just for the direct beneficiaries, but also, for the country at large.
Agricultural tourism can be described as any agricultural operation that brings visitors to a farm. Agricultural tourism, from my research, can also be extended to fishermen, seedling propagators, agro-processors, herbalists and florists since they’re all actively involved in the agricultural sector. Not only will they be sharing knowledge with, but also entertaining, and in most cases, feeding visitors some healthy, naturally grown, locally produced food while earning a decent amount of extra money.
It is extremely important, especially as the tourism season is approaching, that persons actively involved in agriculture work cohesively with each other towards a common goal of promoting agriculture through tourism. How? It is by forming the Dominica Agro-tourism Association (DATA) with a mission of educating, entertaining and earning through agro-tourism.
The Government of Dominica along with the Ministry of Agriculture should work with the association to ensure technical and financial support is provided to the young minds who are ready to take up the mantle of increasing the country’s GDP through agro-tourism in 2016.
Drigo turn momo. This man has no clue about agriculture.
If I was a farmer in Dominica, I would spend my days with Dr. Benjamin seeking serious counseling and coping skills, stemming from the constant lies from this Dominica Lying Party. The good people on the West Coast had to protest for feeder roads, so that they could continue planting, but here you go once more with another false promise. Alas Bondieu!!
pie in the sky. Min of Agriculture isnt serious about anything. sorry
Great and sensible idea but if the people involved are not Red you might as well say it’s dead !!
We already have a Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association. We also have a Farmers Association (DFA), only established in 2007 and already inactive without members. There is a Dominica Wellness Association, a Dominica Arts, Crafts Producers Association, Dominica Beekeepers Association among a plethora of others. In fact, we have so many associations I sometimes wonder where a small population like ours finds the time to do some real work. My point is, can’t the existing organisations not work together to achieve common goals instead of setting up yet another association. and so create strength in numbers instead of getting lost in proliferation?
PS. Local associations are so many in number they would not fit within the max number characters allocated by DNO for one comment.,
This can be extended to animals as well. How about a petting zoo? You would be surprised how many people who are raised in cities have never touched an animal. Goats, sheep, pigs donkeys, etc make great petting zoo animals.
Good idea but when I see the callous attitude of our people my heart bleeds. You only have to observe the stray animals in town. By the way, what does the Mayor do all day? We have not even heard her voice on the new bridge project in HER town!
