Drivers be courteous – letter writer

I would be most grateful if you post on your newspaper the weather conditions today, especially for those driving.

I was out on the road just now and it is horrendous, especially under the Canefield cliff where a falling stone almost smashed my car.

I also urge the selfish bus drivers that it is ok to slow down sometimes because there are huge puddles of water along that route as well and splashing into it obscures the view of oncoming traffic. That’s not courteous at all.

We all can see that it is raining and need to be more vigilant especially now that some of those pot holes are filled with water we are unable to identify which is which.

Thank you kindly,
Traffic driver

I must say, there are some good bus drivers in Dominica, but everytime i visit, it frightens me to see how fast they drive on such narrow roads. I close my eyes everytime there is incoming traffic. and wait to hear and feel the impact of an accident. Going through Mahaut, going through the Bellevue road, one can scarcely breathe, it’s crazy

Just reading this. I have found that it is not just bus drivers a lot more Yes we need to embarrass them. but i don’t think that is enough . We know the police cannot be everywhere why can’t good citizens take number plates and get these people arrested. The over taking and fast driving .

    WE NEED SPEED LIMIT SIGNS

What pedestrians should do is take the numbers and embarrass the drivers who have no courtesy over all the radio stations and the DNO. That’ll teach them that they are not the only ones on the island man….Most people listen to Matt in the morning and Stephen on DBS and whoever is on at Kairi. Nonsense that now man

Safety can never be over emphasized, especially to those pedestrians who are a part of our community, and I really think that a pedestrian or a passenger should be able to report to the appropriate authyorities and fines inposed so as to curtail the misjudgement inflicted by the men and women who engaged in transporting Dominicans all across the country. While we do not have a public transportation system that would be more affordable and accountabiliy, it is the Goverment responsibility throught he police that bus drivers be policed to observe safety and traffic laws.

PIGS!PIGS YOU are so right, the thing that pissess me off is those same drivers when they travel outside of Dominica they obey the laws of the outside country to the extent they hide their tail between their legs. So therefore those culprit are just wicked and have no respect for their own. We have to keep calling them out use our cell phones and every means possible to report them to the authorities. AS the saying goes “IN THE LAND OF THE BLIND, THE ONE EYE IS GIANT”. Simply put those PIGS NEED TO BE TAUGHT A LESSON.

Bus drivers need to go through some kind of course, or do a special bus driving license before they are allowed to carry people.

There should be drivers’ safety courses in Dominica… apparently some folks forget all the rules by the time they hit the road. On a small island like Dominica, I don’t know where everyone is rushing to, so busy, that they are forgetting basic rules of the road… and basic courtesy. Nobody wants to yield the right of way and seems like everyone wants to be right. Not that you can enforce ‘courtesy’, but it seems that there should be more street/informational/caution signs and more police presence on the roads. Not to mention, the roads are just in bad shape and safety is almost never a consideration for those in charge of building and repairing roads. Hopefully, the roads that the Chinese are building will help elevate the level of construction and safety standards for not just the Roseau-to-Portsmouth road, but for ALL roads across Dominica.

What about those obnoxious drivers that are blinded by pedestrians on the road side when they rudely ignore that these people are on foot, well attired, and either awaiting transportation or simply commuting to work or otherwise and drive pass them and get them wet! It really angers me when we are so busy heading nowhere and we can’t even save a little time to extend courtesy. Have we drivers forgotten what its like to walk on the street and get wet by an oncoming vehicle?PIGS!

And let’s not forget pedestrian!! Hello, i can bet we know the state of the west bridge state when it rains. Seem certain drivers have no consideration for pedestrians. My goodness, if you are running late, there’s nothing much you can do. Slow down to avoid splashing people! I remember a few years ago, i was drenched by a family friend- whom i had no choice to curse (take note i was hoarse too)! The driver felt guilty by offering me a ride home which i refused. So, please DRIVERS be considerate on the road!

I agree….some of them just stop without indicating their intention to stop and just move out as well. They overtake three and four vehicles at a time not considering that it’s people they are transporting and not sacks of coals. They vex even when they are on your side of the road and expect you to slow down or stop when they are in the wrong….

I agree with you. I want to also appeal to the bus drivers especially that they should have some road manners and know that if their side of the road is blocked or something in their way they should slow down and allow the other vehicle to proceed and especially if the distance is close.

The bus driver just act on my nerve and wish something could be done to manners them.
