Dear Editor: I am a big truck driver and my question is what is wrong with those Dominican women drivers? When it comes to tight spots they are a nuisance and a bother.
They meet you on a narrow, winding country road while driving, where two vehicles can pass closely, but safely and they just stop! They meet you coming down a road with tons of load and expect you to take the soft shoulder, while they remain firmly on the hard asphalt.
And ask for reversing – up a hill, between vehicles, down a decline – it’s one hell of a mess; it’s never in a straight line. Whenever they manage to back up with much assistance it is always “BOTTOM IN THE ROAD”; you always have to “wahzay” their tail, and they won’t even move up a bit to facilitate a smooth pass. Instead their foot hard on the brake and head straigh ahead.
Maybe they should stick to pottering about Roseau in their nice pretty cars and SUV’s, where there’s hardly anything coming in the opposite direction.
These people are the worst things on the road – a hindrance and a potential hazard to genuine road users.

In my observation as a driver, I have noted to two things:
1. Most truck drivers need to go back to driving school (some have never been)since experience alone is insufficient for driving. Theory and practical work hand in hand
2. Some drivers are just plain ignorant and need some lessons in anger management and good manners
TRUCK DRIVER I THINK THAT YOU ARE PRETTY IGNORANT, AROGANT, SELFISH, POMPOUS AND FULL OF YOURSELF. i AM A FEMALE DRIVER AND I AM FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO ME BY MY DRIVING INSTRUCTOR- DRIVE FOR ME AND THE OTHER DRIVER. ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS AND OBSERVANT ON THE ROAD. THE LEAST I CAN SAY FOR SOME MEN. I WILL NOT GENERALIZE AND BLAME ALL MEN LIKE YOU BLAME ALL WOMEN. DO A RESEARCH TO SEE WHICH SEX CAUSES THE MOST, IF NOT ALL THE VEHICULAR ROAD INJURIES AND ROAD FATALITIES.
Most accidents caused these days are by men acting like complete a**holes on the road with no respect to other drivers or pedestrians. And this truck driver is no different. It’s people like you that put other careful drivers on the road at expense and even harm. So don’t blame women for being careful or exercising caution, they don’t go causing arbitrary accidents unlike some male drivers. Check the statistics. Most vehicular accidents are caused by BIG BOYS who are supposed to be men. They try to intimidate women on the road like as if to say its a man’s world. If most of the male drivers drove with caution like the women do, then our roads would be much safer for all of us.
Its not because you own a truck, or maybe drive a truck for someone you should think you own the road. Instead, you should keep to your side of the road, horn before corners, and stop the nonsense and unnecessary speeding and we all will be like good neighbors on the road.

Women are the worst drivers…after bus drivers! Muchless for a female bus driver. Truck driver I feel your pain. THere should be a sign in the countryside saying NO WOMEN DRIVERS with a big X on it. Women should not be on the road……they are the main cause of accidents. If not behind the wheel, they are talking too much in the passenger seat; poking the man at the back of his bike, not deeming their light at night, driving in the center of the road, parking in the center of the road etc. If you are a woman and you want to get your licence easy, just wear a short skirt for the test.
Don’t be mad ladies we love you’ll but leave the driving to us and go back in the kichen. I’m going to create a driving simulation program called ‘Driving for Dummies’ and sell to women exclusively.
I agree with you 100% brother, Women should only be allowed to drive as specific hours during the day i.e. between 2AM – 6AM when there’s no traffic on the road. The worse thing you can meet is a female bus drive like yesterday turning around a corner on 1 of the busiest main roads in Dominica on a holiday (thats the west coast road for those who may not know)
People making claim of insurance and what not…. BUT OF COURSE WOMEN INSURANCE WILL BE LESS, cause like when allu go for allu license with the short skirt allu make a trip to the insurance company 1 time who’s work force is predominately male.
Its almost impossible to cause an accident and 20 miles and hour u know which is the speed limit the worst drives on the road drive (women) but hey what about the other 50 vehicles behind you that can control their vehicle past 20 MPH and not crash???

The truck driver may have chosen the wrong words to vent,and there are some fine talented women drivers in Dominica.But u all know there are some dotish driving on d/a roads.I say cut the man some slack.
I am seriously wondering why we bother respond to such ignorance. But just to lend my two-pence, perhaps we should do a survey to find out how many accidents are caused by women and how many women are victims of accidents caused by men??? Ask that truck driver how often does he hear women are having accidents? we are more cautious on the road than they are. I have been driving for the past 10 years and never had an accident. I have always heard people saying that i am a very good driver. Tell the truck driver take off those small shades he wearing and buy proper glasses instead.

You guys go not have respect for any other vehicles. You drive on these streets like they are freeways. Sometimes I wish that we had no huge trucks on our little Dominican roads. You guys drive like maniacs.
In as much as I would like to agree with this, the thought process has taught me not to make such “hasty generalizations”. I am a guy and there are men who do the same thing. Mr Truck driver, the rules of the road demand mutual respect by drivers.

am a truck driver and i can tell you the women driver need to pratice their reversing skill most time you meet them and they make a real mess of the road, so with those people making all those remake about truck is not yours that is wrong women learn to reverse

There are many women who are just as skillful as men. But maybe you are just too chauvinist to notice. Why bad-talk women drivers when you probably haven’t seen a lot of them in action? there is sure need for some regulation relating to traffic in town and out of town. some wemen do need to be more brave on the road. also, some men do need to be more careful and curteous on the road, no matter what vehicle u drive.

To think how they might be feeling and thinking? They may never be an expert driver like you, but they have the right to be on the road . My hat off to these women! I like the cautious approach they take. It is better to be safe than sorry, and in the end, this saves lives. Women are the safest drivers on the road. I think it’s their conscientiousness that got them acting a bit retarded on the road.
Men are more risk takers while women prefer the smooth and easier side. On a contrary our roads are very narrow and scary and every other bend is a precipice.

I reckon that this truck driver should be more irritated with the bus drivers of this country rather than the women. The bus drivers are the biggest irritants on the road today…stopping anywhere they wish ignoring KEEP CLEAR signs, overcharging customers when there are standard fares. How many women drivers have you heard of being involved in major vehicular accidents. We are very safe are responsible for far fewer injuries and deaths than are male drivers, and when we are in doubt about moving our vehicles that we pay big money for, we stop. God made us with good instincts and we use them wisely.

Is it any wonder that insurance companys are always ready to give huge discounts or waive certain fees when women come in to insure vehicles? Ladies continue being cautious on the road! Even if the big truck drivers and the bus drivers and other ‘think they own the road male drivers’ get impatient and upset dont be bothered because our objective is to always get to our destinations safely.
Just be courteous and polite to the ladies on the roads. They are no more sleeping ducks.
