To the News Editor,
For the first time in Delices history and maybe the country, there are 17 people vying to represent Delices in the upcoming village council election due on Monday 11th August 2014.
In light of that fact, it is critical that I am given some media exposure immediately to bring to the attention of the community major issues that need to considered before even a single vote is cast.
One might ask, why are so many people going up for election? Here is the simple answer!!! The village has lacked any form of meaningful representation for the last 3 years. This has created a feeling amongst the community that the village council is a waste of time and therefore they just won’t participate in the electoral process.
I want to address some major issues that falls under the auspices of the village council and solicit the village full participation in the upcoming elections.
• Issue # 1. The White River Bridge; this is not just a village council issue and it is not just a government issue. This is a national crisis in the waiting. It is a disaster waiting to happen.
• Issue # 2. Sports and the youth: Sports and sporting facilities in my community is meager at best. No community can survive without sports. Promises upon promises never raised discipline well-mannered young men and women who stay away from drugs, gangs and violence. Delices need a council that will revitalize those things that propelled folks like me into a good future back in the day.
• Issue # 3: The Elderly; we need a council that will give more attention to the senior citizens amongst us. Be it social, recreational, basic or their financial needs. We need a council that is in tune with the elderly.
• Issue # 4: The importance of the community to come together, working in unity with each other so that the entire village can be successful in all our endeavors, big and small.
We need the full participation of the village to ensure that the right team is chosen to represent their interest.
This is important. These are some of the issues that I want to bring to the attention of my fellow villagers so that they will be inclined to participate fully on Election Day, this coming Monday.
Micheal S. Etienne is a candidate in the upcoming Delices Village Council Election.
Yesah. U said that right! ;-)
I nt goin n hide behind no fake name (janelle Guiste) but mr micheal. All of a sudden u care 4 the village the most hmmm am wondering why were have u been for the past couple of years am 23 years n I don’t kw you. mY mother Joan hilaire guiste have been doin her best with the village n its in plain sight n she will continue n for those of u that think its a joy ride enjoy #and Mr man charity begins at home okkkkkk
I wonder if serving on the Village Council was voluntary (free-ness), how many of those persons would have volunteered to serve.
*micheal ettiene was rejected to represent the constituency as parliamentary rep ..he should be rejected as a councillor as well..
* mickey u talk about the elderly happen to the paupers allowance when you served as council chairman in the 90’s your record was not good then i n it is worst now,,
you were suppose to go up for a particular political party and they denied you like the apostle peter denied jesus wi so y u have the mentality that you have won already….. I wonder who told you that you should go up as a candidate. I rather vote ABNER ETIENNE…………..
The change that Delices needs is not political, it’s that the people (village) needs to return to God and serve him as back in the days. Back in the days the village was so united everyone helping each other, where have these days gone. Those days were lost when politics began to divide the people and the people slowly turned away from God. My wish for Delices and Dominica on a whole, is that the people who profess to be Christians, will begin to promote God more than their political parties. Therefore stop being political junkies and be ambassadors of the kingdom of God. Ambassadors go out, promote and represent their countries. As ambassadors of the kingdom of God go out, promote and represent God. People of Delices and Dominica return to God and make noise for him not political parties who will eventually disappoint you but God will never do. Go out and serve God today.
I don’t think this letter should have been posted on Dominica News Online but rather be discussed as a community via a community meeting. We can’t depend on the government to do everything yes its their responsiblity bit the people in the community have to work together. So to Mr. Michael call the community of delices together and have them express their views….
pure ……………………. Michael take the lead and they shall follow gosh man
Stupes yes follow to his pocket.
I wonder if half of the young people who’s going up for election know what the duties of council entails. some of them just going up for show or publicity or I should say the money, these people never get involved in any youth activity in the community, when they get elected they just going to show up for one or two meetings and drop out of the council like the council never exits. that why I will vote for the older foaks insted
agreeed . 100%
So true
While I applaud the efforts of the people who want to go up, history has shown is “too show, too flam” It was a vibrant team that started the seats at the playing field and up to today the energy gone. Let us see what happens by December when the honeymoon over.
Joan is doing a great job and she will remain as chairman. Y.Michael is just there for his pocket. Let us not forget how he desyroyed the Delices village council the last time he was there
We do not want a repeat. This time he and the clerk will have their heads together.
woosh is dert………………. Joan good where she is…..
I wish you God blessings in your endeavors, Mikey. Dominica needs more educated, progressive people like you. I am certain that you will make a difference in Delices. As a matter of fact, you already are.
Tell him go make a difference in his children “s life. Stupes.
woye they will send police for alu wi haha me self one child i know he have
I keep hearing I and I are you the only one who will be on the council. First order of business the I mentality has to stop . There is no I in TEAM. I hope t hat the infighting that has brought the Delices council and the community to a new low will eventually stop. First order of business is to bring the community together, unless there is UNITY no productive work can be done .
Are you already declaring yourself the chairperson of the council? Its inferred in your discourse. again that’s where we create problems already declaring that you are the haed
@odo i am wondering the sam thing is he the chairman or something omg … because this “I” a one man show so that all the praises will shine on him…. that is wat it is ..Alot of politics in this village so it bring division.
@odo Maybe he learnt it from Skerrit. That’s why change is a must
stpz…… i skerrit smarter than all of alu that talking BOUT change is a must….. he and his goverment that paying for alu children bus fare, school fee(esp the st.martin sec students)
alu should be happy he helping alu,…. instead of bringing him down……. #ANOTHERFIVEYEARS
hum….these are serious problems!!!! and they should not be taken lighlty. all concerned should open their ears and eyes.
