Importance of Santa Claus

Dear Sir or Madam Editor,

It seems each year a growing number of people are downplaying the importance of Santa Claus. I would like to express my concern over this so I have sent a letter about it which I hope you will print.

There has long been some opposition to teaching children to believe in Santa Claus. However, the Claus tradition has religious origins that can be helpful in teaching children of all ages the values of humility and giving.

The legend of Santa Claus can actually be traced to St. Nicholas of Myra, a bishop in the early Christian church who was known for his generosity and love of children.

One of the most famous stories of the generosity of St. Nicholas says that he threw bags of gold through an open window in the house of a poor man to serve as dowry for the man’s daughters, who otherwise would have been sold
into slavery. The gold is said to have landed in the family’s shoes, which were drying near the fire. This is why children leave their shoes out by the door, or hang their stockings by the fireplace in the hopes of receiving a gift on the eve of his feast day, December 6 or on Christmas Eve, December 24.

St. Nicholas is associated with Christmas because of the tradition that he had the custom of giving secret gifts to children. It is also conjectured that the saint, who was known to wear red robes and have a long white beard,
was culturally converted into the large man with a reindeer-drawn sled full of toys because in German, his name is “San Nikolaus” which almost sounds like “Santa Claus.”

In the spirit of St. Nicholas let us all make each day of the year like Christmas.

Cheers,
John Rogers

Santa Claus is an antichrist how do I know this because anti in Hebrew language means to take the place of someone like playing the role of Jesus. So we should stop and forget about Santa Claus and focus on Jesus and liers don’t go to heaven so don’t lie to your child about Santa Claus

Santa Claus is just a tactic and myth trying to blind us, moving our concentration from the real meaning of Christmas which is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the whole purpose why Christmas started to celebrate his birth, which later he grew to be a man, he died and was risen to redeem man, the whole world from sin. Satan is using all types of fake traditions to move away our focus from the main thing.

tell our children about Jesus not santa

Personally I have a deep concern about teaching children about Santa Clause. Sure his origin can be traced to the lovely Saint Nicholas but it also has a pagan origin as well. I strongly am apposed to Santa clause. Christmas is a time to teach our kids about Jesus not Santa. Stop this madness please! Saint origin or no, Santa clause is a made up myth focus on the real person: Jesus

I don’t mind telling my child about saint nicholas but there’s no way I’m going to lead him into believing that santa claus is real and will actually bring him presents…..why don’t they make movies or tell children about the real st. nicholas instead of that foolishness about santa claus living in the north pole and what not….I don’t support it at all. children keep talking bout santa and not christ….so think about it

    John…
It is 2009, and if you still want to teach your children fairytales then be my guest. But they only going to find out later on that santa doesnt exist, now wonder what they gonna think about you lying to them. Teach your children about humility, love, sharing, caring and being a good human being, not about santa claus..
Our children are being thought enough lies and fairytales in school, i dont think you should add to it..

    Proper education is the key….

Oh please spare us the nonsense. Now it’s Santa Clause we should be worshiping is it?. There is so much work to do. All of you people with these idle thoughts put your minds to some good use. Create something which is going to be useful to others.
