LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Tony Astaphan

Dear Editor,

Were it not for this new culture of alternative facts and misinformation infecting us today I would have ignored the childishness of Miss Williams, who I do not know.  But I need to put the record straight.

  1. The only time I have every been paid by or from the Treasury is when I am officially retained by the Attorney General to represent the Government or Minister in their official capacities;
  2. I do not recall ever charging the Attorney General of Dominica $40,000.USD for a single case. But if I did, who is Miss Williams to question my fees for my professional services as a leading SC in the OECS?
  3. I have never been retained  or paid by the Attorney General or Government to handle any private matter for Prime Minister Skerrit;
  4. I have never ever charged Prime Ministers Skerrit, Gonsalves, Browne, Douglas, or Anthony  one cent when I have represented them in  their personal capacities or in libel cases.
  5. I will not be charging Prime Minister Skerrit for the libel cases I am going to file first against Lennox Linton and thereafter the others. I consider it my patriotic duty to do so. He is also my friend and I will defend him against this and all smear campaigns to the end;
  6. Miss Williams refers to an invoice of $40,000.00 USD . But she does not tell you what the case involved. Typical of a scandal-mongerer.

Best regards

    Raise the the Bar! ….Sir, this back and forth verbal exchange between everyone and you _as the common denominator is very much infantile behavior from a leading SC in the OECS; it’s entertaining for sure with all these conflicting statements and how you rationalize your own defenses. But at the end, the most acceptable defense will be that, just helping a friend _ a politician conduct public affairs for private advantage and that’s politics……never mind morals and ethics.

    What you mean new culture of alternative facts Mr. Astaphan?This far from new! It is our own, home-grown P.M. who has been a practitioner of this art ever since I’ve known him. In fact i believe that Donald Trump coined that from him, when he was introduced to him in New York by our oleaginous Ambassador of Oceans & Seas, his Excellency Zampolli. Poor Donald has not been the same since, and it shows.

      You will soon know who has been a practitioner in the art of alternative facts, ( lying), just to remind you, in a court of Law, there is no such thing as alternative facts, evidence is what required, a word that is ignored and has no significance to Dominicans anymore.

    There is such a thing as getting benefits in kind. Remember that authorized merchants of our citizenship like Caribbean Citizenship Inc. of Hibiscus Ridge need the approval of P.M. to operate.

    If the PMs not paying for legal service from the most expensive SC in the OECS that should be counted as income and be subjected to income tax laws.

      When your interim Government comes into power you will be appointed and given the responsibility to enforce such thing.

        February 7, 2017

        To Me

        You tell me when the interim Government will be installed, I thought it was today, D- day. The reality I face to day is, I am alive and Roosevelt Skerrit is the PM of Dominica.

    • February 7, 2017

      That is true it should be counted as income and taxed accordingly. Also I do hope that the tens of thousands of dollars Lennox received from his supporters to pay his legal bills were declared as income and taxed accordingly.

    Anyway, Kenneth Rijock warned you to stop pretending that you have license to practice law in the US. He said you keep sending him threatening emails and referring to attorney/Client relationship as if you are authourised to practise law in the US which is not the case.

  17. February 6, 2017

    Williams, and rightly so, questioned you integrity… not your fee. @4progress has that covered…working the personal fee into Government’s (read Taxpayer’s) bill.

    That is the problem with us. Whether you like Tony or not, why would one write about something they have no idea of? Was any research done and facts found to speak so boldly? What is wrong with our people and the idea of embracing misinformation? Most of the people doing this are the so call educated. Has education render us insane and dishonest?

    Anthony Astaphans, you claim that you do not charge the Prime Ministers for representing them in their personal capacities. Accepting this is true, surely you are paid otherwise, which is these Prime Ministers hire/hired you to represent the governments they lead which allow to charge very high sums to the taxpayers.
