LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Minister of National Security asked to comment on crime wave

Dear editor,

Could you be so kind as to publish this letter?

The Honorable Minister of National Security,

We have been witnessing a wave of crime that has never been known to Dominica.

This concerns us when many persons have been disappearing and many strange and unsolved murders have been occurring both on land and within our territorial waters.

-Was it not reported earlier that Transparency International was concerned about criminals being used used as laborers in foreign aid projects?
-Was it not asked who are the imported workers?
-Did you provide us with an answer?
-Why is it that the law provides for proper research prior to work permits being granted?
-What are the requirements for work permits being granted for foriegn aliens?
-Aren’t the immigration, customs and quarantine departments being compromised?
-Can we Dominicans be confident that we are being protected from this strange and rapid upsurge in criminal activity?

We anxiously await your response.

Sincerely concerned

Born and Bred Dominican

You dont have any crime problems in you’re nation. I live in the Virgin Islands and our crime rates per capita is top under the US flag. So you all need to appreciate your peaceful country and work on the little spats that you are claiming to be problematic…

Protesters gunned down by government forces!!!
    Protesters arrested!!!
    Dissidents detained without trial!!!
    Opposition members arrested!!!
Are these not the headlines in reference to the so called “friendly governments of the DLP?

Is it not mirrored in Dominica?

“Opposition leaders charged”…because the speaker refuses to allow questions in parliament.

If the Minister of National Security could find half the time he spends on the Kairi FM rebuttal show to address every issue that Lennox Linton and others speak about rather than address the crime wave we probably would be more in tune with what is happening. The Minister rather than put his energy in addressing this serious situation spends hours upon hours in irrelavant and petty matters on the Kairi airwaves- no wonder he is the most ineffective Minister in the history of Dominica.

It is the responsibilities of each and every citizen to report and assist the law enforcement officers in fighting crimes on our beloved Nature Isle. Also, it is the responsibilities of the top Law-man, the AG and the political leaders to adhere to the constitution (Supreme Law of the land). Remember, the buck stops at the top.

Is this the new way of communicating with government and other statutory officials. Why should any official respond to such a letter, not knowing whether it’s some foriegn person seeking to gratify himself.

Please publish your name and get a reply.

Why dont we look within our selves first bfore looking on de out side. We must look into our conscience, think of who we are, are we bieng our brothers keeper or hater. Are we being genuine parents. Lets not play the blame game. Lets look and see first if we contribute or are part of the causes of the social ills of our community. I can assure u, it begins at home. Do a self test.
