LETTER TO THE EDITOR: More headaches for Gros Morne farmers

The farmer and his truck
The farmer and his truck

On Friday 24th June 27, 2016, a farmer’s vehicle got stuck in the Macoucherie River, second for the week, all in the effort of accessing farm in the Gros Morne area.

According to the farmer, he was on his farm when he observed that it was about to rain. He immediately rushed from the farm in order for his vehicle to be able to cross the river. While driving through the river bed, his vehicle got stuck and could not go further. For over 15 minutes he tried to move the vehicle from the river but all efforts were futile. Fortunately, it did not rain.

Eventually, a few other farmers came along and assisted him to remove his vehicle from the river.

A few days earlier, another farmer got stuck while accessing the same area. During the ordeal, the back brake lining got damaged and had to be taken to the garage.

To date, the farmers from Salisbury, Mero and St. Joseph currently farming in Gros Morne, located in the Macoucherie heights are unclear as to when assistance will come their way. What use to be a 10 minutes drive prior to the passing of TS Erika is now a nightmare. Some have already abandon the farm but others say that this is their only source of income.

A Government official once stated that the road will get assistance…

Gros Morne farmers in need of help!

It is becoming abundantly clear that this Government does not care about the roads or state of the roads in Dominica. Nothing is being done to ANY of the roads in Dominica as far as most Dominicans can see. If there is a hurricane or any really bad weather this is going to be critical. It is very, very, sad that the Government who are selling passports around the world and are getting a great deal of revenue from this are not spending any money in Dominica at all. I find it really amazing that the people who are benefiting from this money are not giving any of it to repair and revitalize their country. Do they not have families and children who are the future of Dominica. The selfishness of the Government of Dominica is appalling. I sincerely hope that these selfish, self gratifying individuals get their just deserts some how. Karma has a way of getting back to them. I feel very sorry for these farmers indeed. Nothing will be done while this Government is in power!!

Tony ass-ta-fan,this is why we need a REVOLUTION to OUST your corrupt illegal rogue government!

This evil incompetent cannot do rogue and thug government, just can’t get their priorities right! The productive sector, in this case agriculture, should be given priority and not the functioning bridge of Roseau. Putting people back to work after a disaster, especially the farming community should be first. All this rogue government gives is lip service, but their actions is as evil as their father the devil!

they are using the police to make a show of force, they are talking about bugging people’s telephone, they are reminding us that the police is the only organisation who can use legal force. when it is to rain teargas and live rounds of ammunition on members of the public at salisbury , when they are contemplating shut your act, they can do all that but our road network are in a very deplorable state almost beyond repairs and the feeder roads which are the life line of agriculture is almost non existent.this is the height of wickedness to have a gang of people who calls themselves a government to be imposing onthe citizenry in this manner. the fat cats are getting fatter and that is all they are good for.

No one deserves this. These people’s cries have been ignored for quite some time now. The only way for them to get Skeritt’s attention is for them to vote for him. How can a river be a gateway to someone’s garden? Are these people fish? Are they technically being told by el supremo that stage 1 of being amphibious was to suck salt now stage 2 is to swim? All villages that oppose the grandmaster and his royal kingdom will be made to suffer. That’s just the way it is and there’s nothing more to it. This evil regime doesn’t have a heart. All that some of these people have is their farms and they cannot access it. Yet they claim that they care.

    • Sure?
      June 28, 2016

Yes the government sent Ericka! All you wickedness catching up . Why would you choose to create your own invisible bridge. What happen to the villages that are only accessible by sea. Have you seen the Bagatelle Road..? Have you try going to Stow, Pitte Savanna, Delices etc. Some of these people are still homeless and cannot get around! You choose to drive on the invisible bridge or in the raging water to prove a point. Another political stunt

You are shameless enough to mention about inaccessible villages, about a year after Erika?….Well this shows the gross incompetence of this corrupt government…So much money is being wasted…These farmers really deserve better.

This is a sad state of affair in the land. I don’t understand why a government see it fit to punish people for exercising their democratic right. Marigot and Salisbury are paying a steep price for doing just that and no one can deny. We can say all we want about UWP and LL and Spags but truth is the DLP has targeted these folks and they MUST rebel. You can’t just sit and say god is good folks, you MUST take action by any means necessary. You are being punished and you should not take it seating and hoping the DLP will throw some scraps at you soon. Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights!

You are surely one of those who believe that if you continue to cling on to the tip of Skeritt’s garment you will be healed don’t you? In your eyes these people can do no wrong. If they had the money they would do it already
