New Zealand’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage

letter to the editorDear Editor,

The New Zealand Parliament’s dictatorial decision to legalize same-sex marriage represents a regressive ethic.

There is simply no evidence that the primary purpose of marriage has evolved to include gays and lesbians. What has evolved is the desire of some same-sex partners to change the definition of marriage in order to have access to the institution. Herein lies the real discrimination.

The fact that some politicians have been drawn away from Christian values today does not invalidate the family as the fundamental cell of society. The family – and through it, all human society – have their source and origin in marriage. Marriage is still ordered to the procreation and education of offspring even if this has eluded the minds and hearts of contemporary man.

As the basic expression of man’s social nature, marriage can only be understood as the lawful union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.

Let us hope that the U.S. Supreme Court will have the greater foresight and fortitude; that it’s members will work to uphold the institution of marriage as it is defined and not deconstruct it to appear as merely an expression of free love.

With respectful and cordial best wishes I remain,

Sincerely Yours,

Actually, it is the REGISTRATION of marriage that is about ownership and property. Marriage itself goes back much further. In some cultures it involved an elaborate ceremony and in others it did not. But marriage was instituted by God in the beginning when He gave mankind the pattern or model for all future marriages which was one man with one woman for as long as they both live. Christ said, ” … Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and cleave unto his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh.” (Matthew 19:4,5) A marriage was initiated by the public announment of their commitment to each other sometimes followed by a wedding feast. People of faith like to have a religious leader offer prayer for God’s blessing upon their marriages so religious marriage ceremonies began to develop involving the exchanging of vows. As society became more complex governments began to require marriages to be registered for reasons of land ownership, taxes, government benefits, insurance payouts, etc. Christians are happy to comply with this. But no human government has the authority to re-define marriage. It is not theirs to re-define! One man with one woman for life united by a mutual commitment one to the other made in the presence of witnesses is a marriage. Nothing else is a marriage regardless of what the Government of New Zealand or any other nation calls it. God calls it an abomination! Marriage is for the nutual comfort and wellbeing of husband and wife, the protection and nurture of children, and the development of families. It is the cornertstone of society. It is a gift of God. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

Fun stuff, a Canadian (resident or citizen) rages on a Dominican website against ‘dictatorial’ marriage equality in … wait … New Zealand. Nuff said.

    • June 17, 2013

UDO: You raise an interesting point. I live in Canada, and “rage” on a Dominica website about marriage equality in New Zealand. Thanks for noticing! Become of modern travel and the wonders of 21 century communications the global community doesn’t seem as vast a place as it use to be. Some issues are world wide in scope and of interest to people in many nations. This is why Dominica News reports events from around the world and DNO makes makes this information available to people world wide by the internet. I am an evangelist. My ministry is international because I preach in countries outside Canada and the U.S.A. My tracts, books, and DVDs have gone around the world, and my website http://www.livinghopeministries.ca is visited by people in many nations. Come to think of it UDO you are also intertested in what happens in New Zealand or you wouldn’t have clicked onto this page! Have a good summer. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

But how Dominicans like a Gay story so nah boy? All you hate gays, but all you love that subject so much I just doh understand all you.

All you just using the people to spread hate. Life them man alone. If they rape you son or daughter then deal with that, but them man do bothering all you. Actually check the careers of most gay people. Deem things we all enjoying today in terms of technology , systems, finance, fashion, music, entertainment etc.. is deem gay people that running all that.

So if you’ll hate gays so must alas alas, all yu better start creating stuff instead of setting all day talking about others. while all you talking and not looking out for all you own self,, deem man well happy.

while all u doh no where all you next lunch coming from, deem man well set. deem man well educated and stuff,,, and deem man are law abiding citizens…

and while all you bully, gay kids are committing suicide, because all you busy preaching hate instead of love.

The issue is not about right and wrong nor is it about sexual activity. It is about how families are built. Some societies have one man and many wives, some have one wife and many husbands, some have one man and one wife, some have one man and one wife but with mistresses or affairs, and today 14 countries around the world think that unions of two men or two women can be included…

    • January 27, 2014

You are describing a world that has lost its way.

God in the beginning gave mankind a model – a blueprint – for marriage.

Jesus asked the people of His day:

“…Have ye not read, that He which made then at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh? Therefore they are more more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:4-6)

No human government has the authority to to redefine marriage. It does not belong to them. It is not theirs to redefine. According to God Almighty marriage is

ONE MAN JOINED TO ONE WOMAN TO THE EXCLUSION OF ALL OTHERS IN A MONOGAMOUS RELATIONSHIP AS LONG AS THEY BOTH SHALL LIVE.

When sin entered the world spiritual darkness followed and man began to experiment with a variety of other living arrangements. Governments began calling them marriages.

Unfortunately the nations have fallen to an all time low and reached the depth of depravity where even buggery (a sin civilized nations once jailed or executed men for) is being recognized as “marriage”.

This is meant to make life easier for homosexual men who otherwise would have to cruise the streets, parks, bars, and baths looking for partners for an encounter.
But make no mistake about it. There never was any romance or love about these kind of encounters. They are driven by animal lust.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

As long as humans make their own rules, nothing will be wrong. With God removed and mankind making their own rules the boundaries between right and wrong will be erased. What will result ? Chaos ? Just think about it

      April 22, 2013

The question I would like to pose to you is what rules are you referring to. The rules I assume you are referring to are rules based on religion doctrine enforced with dogma which includes marriage.I will tell you this the only rules that are infallible and consistent are the rules and principles which govern our universe and these are God rules some of these rules are spiritual and unseen and can be seen and understood with science.Rules made out of religion are man made and not consistent that is what brings about chaos.Look at nature and what you see is love togetherness, Harmony.I will leave you with your own words just think about it.

      April 22, 2013

So, following on from your logic, the (many) countries in the world who are non-religious, are ruled by chaos, and those that believe in God are peaceful, as their citizens are the only ones who know the difference between right and wrong??

You need to educate yourself more.

      • Yes I
        April 23, 2013

        Really?

      • June 15, 2013

Countries may be non-religious but this does not mean there are no religous people there. However, the nations which tried to be non – religous by passing laws against the practice of religion did not do well. Russia is an example. When the iron curtain fell the country was indeed in chaos. Nations that acknowledge God and allow free expression of worship are not perfect but they are more desireable places to live. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

    • June 15, 2013

Concerned Citizen: God removed? No boundaries beteen right and wrong? Man making his own rules? What will be the results? What will we have? We will have a world where men have sex with whoever and whatever they wish, as many as they wish, whenever and however they wish. If fact in such a world this freedom would not – and could not – be limited to sexuality. You could choose your own speed when you drive your car, you could decide if you would send your children to school, or pay your taxes. But no! Thank God we have governments that make laws. God has delegated to them the authority to rule over us. Whether the rabid and liberal left acknowledge it or not human governments are ruling for God and ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO HIM! The head of state and those who represent him (or her) are the “ministers of God”. We are commanded to obey them (unless they order us to disobey God), and support them, which we do by paying our taxes. (Romans 13:1-4) Our Lord taught us to pray “…Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.” (Luke 11:3) Civil leaders have a responsibility to give us laws that recognize and honor the laws of God. Obviously not every moral sin can be criminalized and prosecuted n the courts. (a) We have no way of knowing who is commiting these sins, and (b) the courts could never handle the workload. But the more serious violation – those that strike againt the marriage and family – the corner stone of society – should be criminalized. Christians have a right to respectfully entreat their polititians to see that this is done. And they have a responsibility to vote for the candidates that will do this. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecosal Evangelist. I invite you to visit my website http://www.livinghopeministries.ca and read my ARTICLE “Things that Cannot Be Shaken”.

It is indeed sad to see New Zealand accepting same sex marriage. It was God Almighty – the Creator – who instituted marriage. He gave us one pattern or model for marriage. It is one man united with one woman to the exclusion of all others. No other arrangement of togetherness is a true and valid marriage. No human government has the authority to redefine marriage. Any government that does this is setting itself up for one terrible backlash. Evangelical Christians believe any law that is contrary to the constitution should be ruled unconstitutional and struck down. So far so good. Every intelligent and informed person agrees with this. But we (Evangelical Christians) also know that in the sight of God anything in the constitution that is contary to the Word of God is invalid. While we are a peace loving law abiding people our faith does not obligate us to recognize, honor, and obey such legislation. In fact, we are obligated to honor God at the polls and vote for those who reflect our values. Homosexuality is forbidden by God. This includes every expression of same sex relationships from casual encounters, to common law living togther, to civil unions, to so called marriages. The following scriptures should be noted: Romans 1:21-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10,

    • April 22, 2013

(continued…) 1 Timothy 1:9,10, and Jude vs. 7. However, same sex marriage will bring a major problem. One a government makes even one exception to the single God given model for marriage the brakes are off! There are other special interest groups waiting in the wings to lobby for their rights to have their particular relationships recognized as legal marriages. Since same sex marriage has been legalize in Canada we are already hearing rumbles from those who want polygamy legalized. Then there could be those who want adult-child marriages, parent-adult child marriages, or brother-sister marriages. The same civil rights organizations that pushed for homosexual marriages wlll support these other causes because that is what civil rights organizations do. And the UN and EU will be cheering them on! These governments have absolutely no idea what they are up against. I doubt if they know there is a large homosexual rights organization in the USA with their own magazine that is devoted to promoting pedophilia. This organization is crusading to (a) have the age of consent lowered, and (b to have ALL the laws eliminated that would prevent the from having free and unrestricted access to little boys. One of their fancy sayings in SEX BY EIGHT OR IT IS TOO LATE. Religious leaders and other who care must wake up and sound the alarm. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

OOhhh… What if I told you that “marriage” pre-dates the Bible, Christianity, even all recorded religions?

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage#History_of_marriage

One thing that the Bible DOES teach is to love one another. Jesus welcomed the lepers and the sick – who are you to banish and discriminate against gay people?

      • Max
        April 22, 2013

Also – gay people are two consenting adults. Children are not adults and cannot consent, therefore no thinking society would allow people to marry children.

        April 22, 2013

Rev, you are wrong. Gay marriage does not lead to polygamous marriages etc. Being gay and being a paedophile are completely unrelated. There are bad apples in every sector, but there are more heterosexual paedophiles in prison than gay pedo’s.

You cannot quote the bible as a guidebook to marriage. Otherwise, victims would have to marry their rapists, husbands would have to avoid their menstruating wives, no divorce (whatever the circumstances), wives have to be virgins (or you can execute her), no inter-racial marriages, and polygamous marriage IS allowed in the bible.

Live and let live. Please preach love instead of hatred. It is not for you to judge others.

When them so called Dominicans with no sin say or try to talk about the bible, one must laugh. They or most of them have nothing realy to do with there lives, but to sit around, talk about people, mind people buisness,so forth and so in. But i say to peeps who is anti gay in Dominican, ligalize gay mariage, what’s wrong with that?, nothing. But do what all you want, all you cant stop this, be it now or be it in 50 years gay mariage will come to pass in Dominica..

    • June 24, 2013

God forbid gay “marriages” should become legal in Dominica! .But if it does happen (and eventually it may) God will punish Dominia the same as He is going to punish my own nation Canada.

The Word of God tells us the destiny of all such people. “Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, ARE SET FOR AN EXAMPLE, sufferng the vengeance of eternal fire.” (Jude vs. 7)

You see faceup if here was no God it would still matter because homosexuality is a unhealthy lifestyle. Homosexuals have more mental health issues, a higher rate of alcoholism, a higher suicide rate, and a shorter life span.

But there is a God and He has given us laws to live by. Those laws are found in the New Testament and are binding upon the people of every nation. The pssages in the New Testament that forbid homosexuality are Romans 1:21-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, 1 Timothy 1:9,10, and Jude vs. 7.

So what if some Dominicans don’t beieve in God or the Bible? Let me illustrate it this way. They can say they don’t believe in the Prime minister of Dominica and they don’t believe in his gover nment. But they will soon find it makes no difference what they believe or don’t believe if they break the law! The laws of the land apply equally to all and those who violate them are apt to be punished. So it is with the laws of God. Those who break the WILL be punished unless they repent. But thank God, those who repent (are truly sorry for their sins) will be forgiven if they believe in Christ and receive Him as Saviour according to John 3:16, Revelation 3:20, John 1:7.

      Sincerely, Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

It is a falsehood, that the primary purpose of marriage is for the family. The primary purpose of marriage was and is about ownership and property, the domain of the rich landed classes, to add land to land and unify kingdoms,It is a social contruct about ownership, nothing to do with family but landownership. Basically the unlanded did not participate in marriage, until the church made it a sacrement. Then the bible was used to validte the position and marriage was extended to the poor also. The New-Zealand government have decided that all its citizens can engage in its social laws, not just some.

It’s strange how other people feel the need to determine who someone can marry. Life isn’t based on Christian faith alone; if you look outside there is a massive world with people of other interests.

No one told you how to live your life, did they?

    • May 23, 2013

Have you thought of what might happen eventually when men continue to marry men and women continue to marry women? How will procreation take place? Do we want our children of the future to be cloned or developed in a laboratory? Of course people have the right to love whosoever they want to; but think of what might happen to the future generation. Man and man cannot procreate yet, they want to have children. Can eat your cake and still have it. What a world?

Judge Dred – the Bible is a terrible rule book. These are things it ALLOWS:
        – slavery
        – stoning people to death
        – polygamy
These are things it says you MUST do:
        – marry your rapist if you get raped and aren’t already married
        – kill your wife if she’s not a virgin
These are things you must NEVER do:
        – never wear clothes made of two fibers
        – divorce
        – if you are a woman, speak over a man

Maybe if the bible also says gays are bad – we could use our BETTER judgement, and not blindly follow the bible, since we are ALREADY DOING THAT????

Yes, live and let live. Since we want to treat everybody with equality some think we should include pedophiles, those who commit incest, and those who practice beastility. Aftr all, we have no right to tell anybody who or what thy can love. There is actually an organized effort to have pedophilia declared an orientation based on the fact that so many men say they were born that way and cannot change. Unfortunately, people are sometimes born with with a physical deformity or a mental challenge. This does NOT make the condition normal. Loving parents and others will do what they can to correct the problem. To say we should as we please overlooks the fact that God has a right to tell us how we must live. To say we should allow others to live as they please is irresponsible and to do so would be criminal. If society did this it would not be safe to walk down the street. You would not want your children to play outside. It is time to fight back against this onslaught from the gates of hell! Let polititians who value political correctness more than the wellbeing of our children and the future of our nation step dfown! Let pastors, priests and bishops who do not have the courage to expose the sin in their pews and the corruptness in the government resign. Being gay is not illegal. The (unrelated) CRIMES you are talking about are illegal. Therefore you do not make sense.

Paedophilia, rape, incest and bestiality involve willingness in only one of the parties involved, and/or the power of an adult over a minor.

Christianity accounts for only around 30% of the World population. Do you think 70% of the population is lawless?

Rev you mention incest. Based on your teachings, of creation, (which was the last part of the bible to be written by the way) if life started with only one man and one woman, then incest must have been necessary for procreation.
        Think about it?
But i would suggest that you do more research regarding bible dates. All the books were return and then it was noticed that there was no beginning. They are many christians anthropologist that can explain it to you.
