I did some of my high school SBA watching the erosion of the rock at secret beach. There was always a trail. I don’t think the trails to the beach is blocked. Haven’t used the trail in a long time because I have access to boats however I was told that it’s not block. The owners of secret bay hotel are actual doing a good job trying to keep the beach clean especially when all the sea weed washes ashore. To their credit, they pay workers the rake that place. When we were there in June the guys were there cleaning.

People PEOPLE PEOPLEEEEEE, comonn! let commonsense prevail her otherwise I’ll forced to assume the sense is NOT common around here!

If the land is privately owned the owners have all the right to make a trail and block it is they so wish to! It doesnt take a scientist to figure that out. And let me say this also, if there was a trail people used in the past and now it’s blocked of from the public, normally it’s ‘Paul that messed shit up for Peter’. In other words, Peter paying for Paul as the saying goes. If someone knows otherwise, please correct me.

Yes, I have a few more. From what I understand there is still a small pathway to get there but the main one was blocked off by ‘some people’. Hopefully they do not have the right to claim the beach as private.

It is unfortunate that some people have so much right and privilege that they can block trails leading to public beaches on the island.

FYI: secret bay was used by Dominicans for decades and generations… it was so called because it was only accessed by water meaning there was no trail leading to that particular area. to get there you had to take a boat. I remember going whale watching as a kid and swimming into the cave.
Secret Bay now has land access because the owners of the hill at the top have made it convenient for their guests to do so… but (correct me if I am wrong here) –ALL DOMINICAN BEACHES (AND RIVERS) ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC!

Secret BEACH (which is its real name) was always accesible by land. There’s a trail hidden in the bushes that leads down the side of the cliff. You can’t see it from the sea and there was no indication of that from the roadside so you would have to know to get there. As a matter of fact there were two ways to get there by land which I presume are blocked now by the recent development.

You are correct……rivers and beaches are public domain

But if those trails are on their land… isn’t it their right to do as they see fit with said trails???

Are you saying that people are no longer allowed to use the trail to get to Secret Beach?

right and privilege has nothing to do with it. Anyone can buy land surrounding a beach if its up for sale. If they choose to block it its their business. The beach is still public property and can still be used by the public if they have a means of getting to it as beaches them self are not for sale. Educate yourselves on issues before making such statements as it only perpetuates the cycle of ignorance. Anyone with the money to do so can in fact buy land surrounding a beach, not just in Dominica, but pretty much anywhere in the world.

Jounen Layvye Entewnasyonnal, World Rivers Day as desinated by the Uinited Nations is on Sunday, September 28. This is an effort to celebrate our Rivers and Waterways, we in Dominica have much to celebrate. The God of abundance – the God of 365 Rivers, is counting on us to protect and keep our Rivers and Water ways healthy for the next Generation.
