 After two years some of the comments on here still make me smile. I still can’t believe Mathias captured that image from a simple jump; one stone to another. Was a lovely day exploring the east coast at My Father’s Place. Blissful memories. :)

I am going to try running over rocks like those while looking away. I am sure my fat *%@ will kiss those rocks.

We have become so desensitized by the lack of authenticity in the world today that even those of us who once stood for something are falling for anything. Another case of pulling the wool over over eyes.

Have faith in yourself and your people, and stop underestimating the beauty of Dominica! You need to be positive for a change! That attitude can’t get you anywhere. And you don’t need ” Obama” to say that. Big up to all those who believe this is real!

The picture is gorgeous! Comment to all those who think Photoshop was used in this: I know these 2 people very closely, and was among the first people to see this picture as soon as it was taken by the Camera. So whether you believe it or not doesn’t change the fact that it’s real. And if it wasn’t real, do you really think the Photographer would have enough pride to post it on DNO? Seriously? The point of ” Image of the day” is supposed to show the ” real” beauty of Dominica, not the ” edited version”, so when other dominicans and even foreigners visit the website they can see the ” true beauty” of your island. You have put so much faith in technology that even your what is real you can’t recognize. Get real. Dominica is beautiful and so are the women here. And if you don’t acknowledge that, don’t “malparle” when someone else does.

    TO ALL:
I am mathias the picture taker. i can assure you that the picture is not photoshopped.
i took it with a linux 7.5 mp camera. i have the picture on my lap top and my camera still. If you want proof you can come to the college where I work.
I don’t blame you because DNO also sent me an email asking me if it was photoshopped.
I too was stunned when i saw the picture.

It was taken when i was taking another stunning picture of somebody else on the same stone at my fathers place beach in marigot, while I saw her jumping in the corner of my eye, so I asked her to jump again, and i took the picture.

    thanks for the comments

Yeah !!!!!!!! You well versed in photoshop but it isnot a photoshopped picture but as always we in Dominica are always experts on everything. Geeze. The way the picture was taken gives the illusion that she is running – I am sure she was not flying over the stones.

    – – Depth of field – – is the amount of distance between the nearest and farthest objects that appear in acceptably sharp focus in a photograph.

A typical example of a photo with shallow depth of field control is the close up picture of a flower. The elements around it will be totally blurred because of the focus on that object.

Our eyes work the same way. We look at our finger up close and EVERYTHING else will be blurred to our vision.

DOF is controlled by the Lens Aperture of a Professional Camera like a NIKON or CANNON.

The A – on the dial is for Aperture. When the A is adjusted, the F-number is changed and so is the Depth of Field.

The pic is beautiful, but the depth of field is not consistent. The sharpness of the woman is the same as the mountains, which is a few hundred meters away. So that picture was indeed photo-shopped.

The Mountains and sea are beautiful tho. And so is the girl. :-)

    • Truthofthematter
      September 7, 2012

Maybe that’s because she’s moving fairly quickly (as the whipping of her hair indicates) and so the resolution was distorted. So, her depth of field appears to be similar to that of the mountain in the distance. To me the only thing that could discredit the pic as being authentic is that she looks like as if she was just stuck onto that background.

What the hell are you talking about? It’s a simple photo take it for just that. You’re a professor or something?

    • Anonymous
      September 7, 2012

Thats exactly why I thought it was photoedited but I could not say it in those professional words. All I know is she is not resting on a mountain and the distance between the stones under her left and right foot looks fishy, that would be a hell of a long jump.

Come on folks, let’s not focus on whether the picture was photoshop or not. Let’s look at the bigger picture. The most important fact here is the background. No one can dispute this is our lovely Dominica the Nature Isle. There is none to compare. Now let’s look at the young lady. Simply beautiful! Dominica is indeed blessed.
