As we are in Independence week, DNO appreciates readers who send photos of what Dominica looked like in the past. They help us reflect on where we have been and how far we have come.

The above photo depicts a village somewhere in Dominica.

It was submitted anonymously and the date or the location of the photo is unknown.

Photographers – novice, amateur or professional – in Dominica are asked to submit photos, photographer credit and caption to [email protected] for consideration for the Photo of the Day feature, daily on dominicanewsonline.com or news.dm.

Submissions can be accompanied by a brief profile and contact information of the photographer. Submissions will be published in the order they were received.

Photos must be taken of Dominicans and things Dominican. Note that submissions advertising any form of business or business activity will not be published.

Dominica News Online also encourages the submission of a variety of photos, ranging from nature shots, people shots, weird shots, interesting human interest shots, and anything ‘newsy

That is Kouanari boy. Trust me, I know my village. That is Frazer looking at the mountaun from east to west.

Confirm that with Mr. Honeychurch. He has a good eyes for that type of thing.

    Enough said.

I will go for Balahoo Town, L’autre Bor, now Pottersville looking north. The hill you see there is Fond Cole, Glasgow. The photographer maybe standing where is now Elliot Avenue junction with Goodwill Road. I see what looks like tamarind trees in the back and there was a long avenue of tamarinds along the sea in the old days I hear. Old people said Goodwill estate had a stone wall along it to separate it from the village so that seems to be it on the right….Just thinking.

The hill in the distance looks somewhat familiar. That photo was pulled from the Dominica section of the Antanlontan website. The photo may have been from around 1904.

This is what you call history. Just a few days I was explaining to my daughters and grand daughter what kind of houses we lived in when I was growing up in DA. My grand daughter had a school project to resemble an Indian village. I wish the one who sent this to DNO could have just let us know which village in DA. The date would be nice to at least the village name would be great..thank you for who ever sent this to DNO because besideme two other people are going to be vert pleased to see what I tried explaining to them a few weeks ago. Thanks again DNO for publishing this. I am born and bread DA citizen writing from the state of Georgia in the USA.

I may be wrong but this area looks like that spot where Josephine Gabriel Company is looking east to Bath Estate, with the walls of the Gardens on the right. Like I said I may be wrong. I wish to know the exact location.
