Correction lesding up to the caribana parade
It does not matter. it is all part of the two weeks celebration leasing up to the caribana parade
@ caribbean man, I totally agree with you. We must not seek to criticise and put down our own people. As you said, we are one and we must try to acknowledge, understand and accept each other for who we are as a race of African people.
They love Carnival/Caribana. Of course this is the influence of their parents.
It is too bad that Trinidadians take all the compliments. They go so far as to say that Carnival originated in T & T. Those who do not know better believe them.
Don’t slag Trinidadians, because if it was not for them we would not have Caribana. Let’s not divide our people, we are all Caribbean people. Let’s embrace each other.

Why take offence? How much do you know? Are you a Trinidadian? I did not slang them. I spoke the truth. In fact, it is never is my intention of slanging anyone and without reason. It is all in your negative and critical mind.
I know enough of them, some personally, the latter, we get along very well. They are dear to me. I have relatives who are from Trinidad and who still reside there. Therefore, I am not “bad-talking them”.
You must differentiate between speaking the truth, from one’s experience, what they hear and slanging them – people. Do not misconstrue what I stated and what I meant.
Since you mentioned about “slanging them”, something I would not have done, be informed that I played Mass in Toronto. The Trinidadians do not do it for nothing. Those who play Mass pay exorbitant sums of money for their costumes. It is a money-making event. The organizers stand to gain a lot of money from it and status. They think it is their show. I know very well what I am stating.
They had a lot of trouble – I mean trouble – bickering and in-fighting and more, in recent years because the organizers and others who were in charge of Caribana could not get along. There was also misappropriation of funds which could not be accounted for. Were you aware of that? If you read the local Toronto Newspapers and
the Caribbean Newspapers, three of them, including listening to the TV and Radio News and others who discussed this sad and scandalous situation that also some (these) West Indians cannot get along, you would have been aware of that. Some of those who were on the Committee left or were fired. Some of them would not turn up for meetings. It was a shame. Today, some of them may be still enemies.
The Municipal government got involved and almost did not provide some funding. When the government did, they complained that it was not enough. Caribana was almost shut down for good. They were bankrupt.
Scotiabank came to their rescue. Scotiabank now owns Caribana. Otherwise there would be no Caribana. In fact, it is no longer called Caribana except by West Indians. It is officially called “Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto.” They complained that the word ‘Caribana’ is dead, done away with for good. This is sad after a great beginning and continuation through the years. This should tell you more about it.
Therefore, keep your critic to yourself. People like you cause trouble for others.

It’s always nice to see the flag being raised outside of the country…I also think we need to see more flags within flying within the Island itself. When I visit I don’t see any flags…I actually see more flags abroad…Rep it people

It’s not Caribana – it’s at Kiddie’s Carnival…a prelude to Caribana…all part of the build up to Caribana.
But irregardless, that’s how we Dominicans like us kids to represent and know their roots.
