DPC POETRY: The cry of a tormented soul

The Cry Of A Tormented Soul!
(I couldn’t pray, so I confessed, then I begged!)

‘Hail Mary, mother of God’
Seemed so fabricated
‘Our father, who art in heaven’
Seemed so orchestrated.

So I poured out my soul
In an honest conversation
To the God of our ancestors
Trying my best to keep it – real:

Almighty Father
Creator of all
Which is seen and unseen
You, who protected my people
Through the middle passage
Watched over us
As we paid restitution for
A forgotten sin
For which we must have been cursed,

We as a people, now bow before you
Humbled
Stripped of our backbone
A joke amongst humanity
Begging for everything, including
Our own human rights.

Lord God
We surrender
For, we have paid with
Blood
Servitude
Humiliation
Subhuman degradation . . .
We have crawled on all fours
Even swing from branches
Like strange fruits;

And through all of that
We have yet to fight back.
Are we genetically castrated?
Is this the reason
Some of our women disrespect us
Seeking love from the oppressors;
Do they find us weak
Meek
Or cowardly?
Oh powerful God

Oh powerful God
Why are our children, glorifying
Our slave taunt as a badge of honor –
Love being niggers
Useless
Worthless
Trash?

And one more thing
Almighty Father,
Why do our sons
Show off their behinds
Like sexual teasers
Or like females seeking anal penetration
Glorifying prison yard sexuality
More degradation
Self- imposed negativity
In a vicious cycle with no end.

While, on the other hand,
Why do so many of our daughters
Live like penis-less men
Exhibiting more strength than our sons
Pulling females and raising families?

Lord God – if these things offend you
Let the pagans amongst us pay
But please accept the blood
Sweat, and tears of our ancestors
As payment in full; and
Please liberate us as a people
From this mental slavery
Amen!

Noxi, you got me with that one!
Masterfully articulated and historically correct narrative of our struggles…

Good thoughts, provocative reasoning, loved the portrayal, but power to rise above obstacles, and choice and freedom to coexist and to love, must be glorified not subdued.

This a good poem; I can easily see the writer’s theme. Except that the writer is not exactly speaking the words as it should be spoken. But I most definitely, agree with the second verse.

However, for example, why does the Blood, Sweat, and Tear belong to our ancestors–for they were even in deeper bondage of both–the physical torments of slavery in their days on earth, and also the “spiritual slavery” of sin, and the functions through a carnal mind, which is rampant in this world today

But are we supposed to be like that today, to be the soul which cries through torment? The answer is no.

For in the Man whom we know as Jesus Christ, Almighty Father has given us freedom to live like His children, whether we are Jews, Greek, the Americas, the Africans, the Australians and the Eurasians–we have the privilege of freedom by faith is what the Son–who is the Person of Love in the Father, has done for us.

The unfortunate thing is that we have turned away like sheep gone astray–no wonder we continue in the bondage of sin and sufferings of the flesh–as we have rejected the ransom that was paid for our freedom. This ransom was the blood of no human being–it was the Blood of Jesus Christ who tells us: “I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Any one who has seen me has seen the Father”.

“In Him there is Life and the Life is the Light of men”–there cannot be any darkness in the Life we have, which is of Jesus Christ.

If we continue praying calling on false names for the creator then our troubles has just began my brothers and sisters.

Noxi, Amen! You always have me laughing when reading your poems, but ths one has me thinking, thinking of always being honest in prayer, praying for what really and truly matters even when the words may not be what others might think to be appropriate… I love this poem!
