POEM: Time to speak, time to stand

Father I come before your throne seeking your blessing
As a nation we have fallen, as a people we are stressing
Crime and violence is on the increase
Week after week we say R.I.P to the decease
Families are mourning
Hurting!
Lusting for the days of yesterday
Praying for the pain to fade away

Mr. Commissioner what’s your plan to conquer the increase in crime and violence
Christian council why are you so caught up in silence
Why are you not speaking out?
I repeat why are you not speaking out?
Mr. Speaker will you be so unruly to demand that I take my seat
Or will you listen keenly to the words I speak?
Mr. Government, Mr. Politician what do you think is the reason for the increase in crime and violence
Please speak up! I don’t wish to be deafened by your silence
Attorney General, Governor General, opposition
What’s your position?
What do you think needs to be done to have a reduction in crime and violence
We need answers, we need them now! This is no longer the era of silence
National youth council and all youth related organizations where is your voice
I repeat where is your voice
As our country grow further apart by political indifferences we need one heart, one voice
Youths! Will you be that voice?

Youths! Your time is now to take a stand
Together as one we can
We must march as one through the streets of our beloved country
Singing songs of freedom, showing how much we love S.V.G
With a smile on our faces we must embrace each other hand in hand
Together as one we can!

We must send a message to our leaders
We must show them that we have stepped up, we are our brothers keeper
Our leaders must listen to our plea, they must listen to our cries
A brighter future they cannot deny
The right to live happily we deserve
Life must be preserved
Crime and violence must be tackled now
I repeat! Crime and violence must be tackled now
The issues that stresses our people must be analyze
Criminals must be legally penalize
The system must be what it was intended to be
An enforcer of law but also a preserver of equality

S.V.G means St.Vincent & The Grenadines. An error occurred with the name, it’s suppose to be ‘Time To Stand, Time To Speak’

I appreciate the comments everyone. Anyone wanting to read more of my poems can join my official poetry page on facebook @ facebook.com/dillonollivierrepoetry

Very well written and very deep. DNO you should keep posting this peom up until the youths take a stand and demand the government, the religious leaders, our parents listen to us. We should also take a stand against violence by reporting crimes and helping the system bring the criminals to justice. Too many criminals are walking the streets…someone somewhere knows something and are not speaking up. This has to stop. Again, job well done writer.

seems to me the writer is from St Vincent however the words ring true in Dominica as well …. is it coincidence that Gonzalves is one of Skerrit’s role models and both are students of the Chavista M.O ?

They should open there mouth and say what you want them to say. A man just killed his brother, yes its the Gov. in power’s fault.

I hear your cry and I do feel your pain. We all labor, and are heavily laden…Our burdens are becoming too much to bear….Our concerns have surpassed our curiosities.

Oh but alas,do those in authority hear our cries?,are they listening?….Do they feel our pain?…Do they even care?.You think they know our plight?…Will they even answer your humble cries…Chances are….will they?.

Sadly,we remain too divided…Can we build a Nation on a foundation of disunity?…

Why do we appear to be defiant and steadfast in our position of cheap partisan politics?.
Why is it,that we always seems to put political Leaders and political Parties before our Country, and before our fellow Citizens and their plight…..When they themselves put political interests above the Peoples interests….

We need answers. We need substance and We need solutions….

Where are the youths of today, and where do they stand on critical issues affecting them and their Country…Are they even aware?.Do they even care?.
Will they stand up for Country, principles, and for fellowmen?…..

That was very nice Dillon, very nice and inspiring indeed. Keep it up…
Even if we don’t have a Governor General; I do hope our President,Prime Minister,Attorney General, Police Commissioner, the Opposition and other political Leaders as well as community Leaders, hear your pleas and take heed…Will they take a stand and do something?….That is left to be seen.

We need answers. We need substance and We need solutions…..Not propaganda and political rhetoric…..

    Peace and goodwill towards all….

    REBEL!!!.
