That plant is basalic. It is known in the US as basil-there are several kinds.
It is a good tea, hot or cold. Because of its strong aroma, it is highly recommended along with thyme, in the marinating of lamb. It is also the main ingredient in the process of making pesto-a combination of basil, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. Great in pasta dishes especially if you suffer from acid reflux and cannot digest the tomato sauces very well.

That used to be my favorite herbal tea in Dominica. I now know its name as Basil, but I am sure we called it (Bazailic) in Dominica. I cannot spell words that are spoken in patois.

It has anti-inflamatory and anti-bacterial properties as well as containing minerals and vitamins (depending on the soil that they were grown in).

It is referred to as Basil, and also Basilic. Scientific name is Ocimum Basilicum.

Locally, we call it “bazaylic.” Makes a nice ‘bush tea’
