20 for NCCU cadence-lypso competition

NCCU finalists 32012 winner Webster ‘Webb’ Marie is again among the 20 participants in this year’s National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) 2nd Annual Cadence Lypso Competition scheduled for October 19 at the Newtown Savannah.

The line up also includes Carlene Xavier-Phillip, John Fontaine, Rhamadine Phillip, Steve Owen Williams, Lloyd Wayland, Eramus Morancie, Jude Delauney, Vincent Gregoire, Richard Christmas, Ellis Serrant and Libby Thomas. The other competitors are Chris Sylvester, Cletus Joseph Abraham, Daniella Bruno, George Jervier, Henry Etienne, Algernon Ducreay, Shirley Charles, Louis Anselm and the Majestic Tribe.

President of the NCCU Michael Augustine and Colin Piper of Discover Dominica was among those who addressed the “official media launch at the Old Mill Cultural Center.

They both urged competitors “to take control of the art form” and use the opportunity given by the NCCU who has invested in excess of $70 thousand dollars in the event, to “revive it and ensure that Cadance Lypso does not die.”

It is good to attempt to try and keep the cadence alive. But with all these wannabe kind of compac being played by these bands in DA, we sound like reject hatians.Instead for these bands to push the cadence all year, they treating it like a seasonal thing, bands like kkk;CK;cross vibes and all these up and comming bands should have cadence tracks with their bouyan;Yet we wonder why our music not leaving DOMINICA.BIG UP FITROY WILLIAMS and DICE for agreat cadence Album.

While I applaud NCCU for helping to ensure that cadence remains a music genre that is unique to Dominica. Congrats to all those who made it.
I however have a problem about a comment that Michael Augustine made on the news which is in relations to expanding the competition to Guada and Martinique.

Michael Awi Debbs ripped off us (Dominican musicians) enough in the eraly days as far as cadence goes. Our boys were robbed of their legacy. Now we have to fight to keep cadence alive.
Now you have a good thing going after two years you already want to extend to French men again. Garcon behave cou-ou…
Work with the local artist and try to help them to attain whatever support that would required. Can you imagine a French man coming to Dominica and get $15000 of NCCU money.. Michael rethink your strategy because i will make serious noise for more interest. A joke dat man..
On a second note while competition remains tight for Web this year, Halibout might be the man to beat. Competitors do your homework.
