2018 a ‘much better year’ for DSS says JeanJacques

JeanJacques

Director of the Dominica Social Security (DSS), Janice Jean-Jacques Thomas, said 2018 was a much better year for the institution than originally expected.

She was speaking on ‘Talking Point’ aired on state-owned DBS Radio, this week.

“For the DSS, 2018 was like a year of recovery, we saw the results of our work on the field bearing fruits,” she said. “We saw an increase in our contribution collection.”

She said there was also an increase in the number of employers who got registered, “and so we can say that 2018 had been a much better year than we originally expected.”

Jean-Jacques Thomas said the DSS is hoping that it can build on the gains of 2018 this year, so that 2019 can be an even better year for the company.

Meantime, Deputy Director Augustus Etienne, stated that following the passage of Hurricane Maria the DSS was concerned that there would be a serious dent in the company’s contribution income, “but obviously all the destruction that was brought by Maria and the necessary works to rebuild, restore and repair we have seen an increase in the number of [registered] persons.”

He explained that a lot of employers made employees redundant after the hurricane, “but we see them taking up employment in other areas, so you would appreciate that there is a lot reconstruction taking place in the country.”

Etienne went on to say that although construction is one of the sectors that present the greatest challenge in terms of compliance, those increased activities in reconstruction, repair and renovation have brought about an increase in the number of persons who are engaged and, “we hope that this can continue.”

“[That] it would not be a temporary thing but it’s something that can be sustained for the well-being of the system and for the good of the economy,” he said.

This report is completely bereft of crucial statistics. What was given for public consumption could have been delivered by a bright grade six primary school student. No wonder productivity is so appalling in the public sector. Is this the best that can be offered by appointees of the government in prominent places of the public sector? There has been a constant erosion of our democracy by government and its rogue public servants.

Ibo France i find you rude and out of place, what make you think you have more qualification and experience than the Director?

You are extremely NARROW-MINDED to tie everything to your foolish stupid narrow politics, Janice is my personal friend and i can tell you she is BRILLIANT which is more than i can say about you!!!!!!!!

But how in the world does she and Skerrit expect me to believe what they say? Words are free and no one can be changed for talking except they break the law and these days we don’t have laws in Dominica, as Skerrit taught us. If this year was a much better year for social security, why not give figures? These days everything in Dominica is shady, dark and corrupt to the point that they say one thing to us but the truth is so we’ll hidden from us. Even our chuches these days giving us a very good financial report but when you get a copy of our bank statement you see something completely different. It’s a time when we hear village counsels missing money but no one is held accountable. We are full blown corrupt from head to toe, which was the reason why God destroyed the earth in Genesis. Everything in Dominica is corrupt!

This is such misconception by the management of this institution. Obviously Directors you will see an increase in registration and contributions because of the recovery projects, therefore this cannot be surprising. This year you are going to see the decline as the recovery gets closer to normalcy. Such incompetent people, your analysis reflects your competency.

My people; the battle for souls has began, did I not say that a shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to seek one? The enemy’s efforts against my kingdom is here, now plans to attack your family, finances and your lives as well. Cancel his plans daily because you have been given the tools to do so. The more you cast a blind eye is the more it’s roots will grow. Forsake the fence sitting, be diligent and unrelenting. The tide is turning against the enemy, release the tenancy to be complacent. Be the lighthouse and beacon, if I am for you there is nothing that you cannot defeat. I put my faith in you and no lack is found in you.
I am proud of you, my beloved, through your voice and hand will I use you. The fault is not in you so let go of the shame, and we are moving on to the land I have for you. You will be under my protection so nothing will harm you. If I took you this far, will I leave you where you are? What you have learned today will help you in the future,…

As per usual speeches and talk but no figures. Everything is opaque and no accountability in Dominica. The citizens will only find the true state of affairs once this regime is finally gone.

That was exactly my sentiments in reading the article. We should see better reporting from our top administrators such as the Bosses of the DSS, not a single figure to show how indeed the compliance, contributions or even registration have increased.
Now think about it, if we’re comparing 2018 to 2017 we should already expect better results based on the demise suffered in 2017..Lord Dominicans must wake up.
Just because we the critics press for more meaningful information does not mean hate or wishing Dominica bad, in fact it’s the opposite, as we want to see our country do better genuinely, not by simply making vague statements that seemingly are to appease the incumbent..Mediocrity seem to reign in DA..that’s sad and we can do much much better.

RandyX, as usual, you are spot on. This government and their political appointees confine themselves to generalities rather that the raw and irrefutable data. If you happen to finger this out, they accuse you of being anti-Skerrit, anti-patriotic and besmirching the country’s image abroad. The public affairs of the country are shrouded in dark, thick, cumulonimbus clouds of secrecy. There is no sunlight to this regime’s operations. They operate in a black hole where no information escapes. People like you, Mr. X, who try to bring enlightenment to the citizens, are considered unpatriotic and enemies of the State. Don’t ever become weary of doing good. Pointing out and criticizing the Skerrit-led DLP authoritarian concoction for their innumerable wrongdoings is the patriotic thing to do.

This is very positive. Hope DSS continue to grow as this indicates a growth in employment as well.
