53 year-old fined for cannabis

A 53 year old man from Grand Bay was slapped with a 1,100 fine by magistrate Ossie Lewis on January 4, 2013 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of Cannabis and possession with intent to supply 160 grams of the illegal drugs.

According to reports, the drugs were discovered during a traffic check on January 2 by members of the Task Force in the Fond Baron area. A black plastic bag was found during a routine check on a passenger bus and Johnathan Blanc who was sitting next to the bag said “officer is mine and its a small weed that there.”

In mitigation lawyer joshua Francis asked the court not to impose a custodial sentence on his client since he had “not wasted the courts time was remorseful for his actions and had accepted full responsibility for the drags and his actions.”

“He is sorry and is begging for mercy,” Francis told the court.

He was fined 1,100 to be paid by April 30,2013 failing which he will be sent to jail for 10 weeks.

Just have the balls to decriminalize Marijuana. Plain and simple, you all know you have bigger and serious things to WORRY about. Judges your hands are not tied, please stop wasting the cour’s time, take the lead and impose lighter fines on Marijuana, the others will follow. The island is sick with Columbians and V’zuelans cocaine for us to worry about at this time. before it’s too late.
