UPDATE: Police identify man who died in Antrim traffic accident

The accident took place on Monday morning

The police have identified the man who died in a traffic accident in Antrim on Monday morning as Johnny Stoute, 37, of Petite Soufriere.

Three other people were injured but they have all been treated and discharged from hospital.

Police PRO Acting Inspector Simon Edwards said the accident took place around 7:30 am.

He said Stoute was driving a Toyota Hiace bus, registration number HF033, on the Antrim main road when he lost control. The bus collided with a parapet on the road and it overturned, he said.

“At the time of the accident, there were three passengers on the bus who suffered minor injuries,” he stated. “They were transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital where they were treated and discharged.”

He stated that Stoute was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. The body was later transported to the Lyndhurst Funeral Home.

Edwards said investigations into the accident are ongoing.

no it was not. in fact the road was wet if i may say and further more he was categorized as one of dominicas best drivers. so when it comes to driving this man was very careful and always made sure that his passengers were safe thinking of himself last. and even if they say speeding was the factor then that would be positively negative. for this man was not only the best driver but the best father, the best god father, the best uncle, the best son and the best nephew don’t get me wrong but he was everything in one and it was not easy on anyone knowing that they lost a great friend, a fiancee, a dad, a son or an uncle the man you see in that picture driving that bus will always be remembered and loved. rest in peace father

RIP dear man. I have no idea who you are or how you lived your life but I will be your voice.
It’s very unfortunate how STUPID people are so quick to forward your body laying in the street. What’s wrong with people today? There is no respect for the living and even in death there is still no respect. Individuals are more concerned about being the first ones to get the news out rather than thinking about what they are sending. Here I was at work, opening up a message to see a bloody man in the street.
THINK PEOPLE BEFORE YOU JUST FORWARD THE LATEST NEWS. Think of the family and offer some respect. After all you would not want that done to you.

i totally agree with your comment. people these days don’t have any respect. they are not taking into consideration how the family of the deceased may feel. some of the deceased family members got the news by opening up a whatsapp message and seeing the picture of the dead man’s body. shame on us Dominicans. we need to grow up… we are too quick to forwards bad news, why aren’t we not quick like this to forward when something good happens?

The deepest sympathy to the relatives and friends of the departed. Life is so uncertain in these times, we know not the hour we may exit the land of the living. So we must love and help each other much more. If we are not in a position to help others, at least don’t hurt them. Maximum Respect and much Love to everyone.

It is interesting, how many lives have to be lost before the police make something simple like “Driving with your seat belt” a must. I remember a few years ago there was a string of accidents, then police were stopping vehicles and checking seat belt for like…two weeks… then everybody moved on from that.
And the same decisions makers travel to other countries I.E Barbados and before the taxi driver enters the ride first thing he tells you is “make sure you have your seat belt”.
Another note, in newer model vehicles you cant drive 5 minutes before the car alarm starts going crazy, when can we see a reduce cost of vehicles on the port so people can stop driving those ancient tin cans and get better vehicles that have been proven to protect you better in accidents and not just crumble. It’s not just about making money, it’s about putting things in place that will protect the people and make Dominica (I think I got the quote wrong ) “The Best and Safest Place to Live and Work.

A very good point ”seat belts” but seat belts don’t drive vehicles . The Dominican public needs to be further educated that driving in Dominica ,is no sport .The topography of the island alone commands respect from vehicle users , changing weather conditions need to be taken into consideration and most importantly the maintenance of the vehicles is a must .Then the Drivers themselves ( many of them) need a whole month of classes about driving, all over again, emphasizing the consequences they will face when responsible for an accident .They need to be made aware they are not the only user of the road at any one time, and the road does not belong to them .
I know an idiot who calls himself ”DONKEY” and Donkey is printed on his bus as an emblem .I spoke to one of his girlfriends thinking he was called by that name for another reason , but she confirmed that’s not so , far from that , its only because of the way he drives. The worst thing is the young people…

The young people always fill his bus because they want to get there ”now ”
you know just like they want everything ”Now”.
I always say there are crowds of Angels protecting people using the roads in Dominica .
Another day, traveling on one of the buses , a shower of rain just started pelting down . hey presto out comes the wiper , the bus driver ,while driving was sticking his hand out of the window with his wiper clearing out the rain drops from his windscreen ,but you know what was funny ? the few passengers on board were laughing ,and he laughed with them .
I indicated i was stopping off , paid him and ran off from the rain. I got wet outside instead tan.
Something needs to be done about our drivers in Dominica or we will continue to shed many tears .

  13. What?
    April 9, 2018

Dear Admin. please elaborate for me the status of your news gathering. Do you merely report what has been given by the various P.R.O.s, or do you actually have reporters who investigate, and look into these stories to be able to provide your readers with a more concise, complete, and informative relation of the subject at hand. Do you have on staff an “investigative reporter”? I ask this so that I can better comprehend the perspective of the “news” that you disseminate.

    Thanks

This is the same stretch of road where a tourist was killed a couple of years ago.

The cause of the accident is as yet unknown, but what I do know is that vehicles continue to overtake on this blind corner.

    • Iamanidiot
      April 10, 2018

Yes that is very true, that is the blindest corner of all corners, the definition of blind corners and people pass me on that corner and im just like…SMH. That’s how you going to hurt a person with your stupidity and the person on their side of the rode driving properly.
