Body of 17-year-old still not recovered

Eight days after his disappearance in the deadly waters of the Boeri River in Canefield, 17-year-old Micael Okwan Mitchel of Fond Cole has still not been recovered.

Police spokesman Claude Weekes said the search by the police, coast guard, fire department and SSU and ambulance personnel is ongoing.

“He is still missing,” Weekes said this morning.

Mitchel went missing on Sunday September 19. His friends reportedly told the young man’s mother, Bankley Cuffy, that they watched him get swept away by the strong current while he attempted to cross the river.

With the element of grief still very much present in her voice, the young man’s mother muttered, “they still not found his body” in a rather brief conversation with DNO this afternoon.

Some time ago Cuffy told DNO that she last saw her son at about 11 am on that dreadful rainy day and had a chilling feeling that that would be the last time she would she him again.

She was informed of his disappearance sometime between 5 and 6 pm by one of her son’s friends who accompanied him to the river.

According to the reports, the 17-year-old lost his balance while fooling around as he attempted to cross the Boeri River.

@hmmph: Most likely the news would be 3 or 4 missing instead of one.Not like they were able to stop the river. What would you have done?

To the young men who were present and the family my prayers are with you, However I do hope that there was no malice involved and the truth was told to the rescue team by the young boys and that they are not looking in vain. Let’s keep hope alive. Are we looking for a grave on land or a body drowned in water or a young man who wandered into the forest. …….Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. With God all things are possible!!!!!!!!

i do not understand what happened to the young child’s body. That’s weird. Lord i pray that he is found soon to give his family some consolation. Once the river was rough which means the current ends up way out into the sea. By the time the coast guard n others went out to look. He must have been very far already. Look at the young teen the other day, up till now they cannot find her body in the sea. Lord we are loosing too many young lives.

I pray our country wasnt sold to the devil. Some people can be very wicked. All these useless death can b sacrifices u know.

I sincerely hope that the police look at this from all angles. Not everything should just be taken at face value. Ask the same questions from every angle to ascertain exactly what happened.

This looks like there will be more questions than answers. I just hope and pray to God that foul play was not a factor and his body will be found soon.
