Coaster drives over river edge

The driver of this coaster bus seemingly forgot to ensure his vehicle was not in gear before starting the engine.

This oversight caused the vehicle, which was in drive, to go over the edge and head face down into the Roseau river,  before he could hit the brake and grip the clutch to shift gears.

The bus stopped only as its back raised off the ground, causing the belly to rub hard against the border of the wall and the arched portion to press against another coaster parked next to it.

The (HB509) bus runs the east side and its driver, who refused to give his name because he didn’t “want to ruin his reputation “said it was simply a “freak accident”.

Attempts were being made to have a crane parked near by to assist in restoring the coaster back safely on the ground.

    Even in larger countries such as the UK and the USA the news people block number plates when delivering news of this nature so I agree that DNO should have made some effort to hide the registration number. I have never been critical of them before because generally I think that they do a great job.

    On another note,he dosen’t want to give his name cause he dosen’t want to tarnish his reputation? Give me a break!!!!!! So you think Dominicans not inquisitve enough to go find out who the drive of HB509 is? and besides why is DNO displaying the number plate if the man don’t want to give his name? the name is his mark too,i don’t see their point

    @Jen Dominique:

    I cannot figure you out. It is an incident. Thank God it did not result in an accident and that no one was hurt.
    DON took the picture and since the license number was visible they had every right to take it as well.
    As for the man who is embarrassed and said that he does not want his name published, he must really be residing in Dominica. Only in Dominica you say? :)
    This could not happen in Canada of all. His first and last name, age, registration plate number, type and color of vehicle and any information relating to this incident would have been broadcasted n TV and written in all the newspapers. This is news! :)
    The police would also want to know if he was intoxicated. A breathalyzer test would be conducted on the spot; for illegal drugs as well. His vehicle would be search for such.
    If he had an abnormal alcohol level or illegal drug in his blood, he would be arrested and charged.
    The driver should have nothing to fear. Accidents/incidents happen and will always happen and when we least expect. I would hope that people do not turn this into a joke and make him a laughing stock and ridicule him. These things do happen and even to the best of drivers as all of us, are fully aware of. There are many such stories and strange ones too which are called freak accidents.

    D.N.O. i am disappointed, that after the driver said he did not want to disclose his name, for the purpose of preserving his rep. you went along and really magnified his reg. number. But I won’t place you all in bad books for that, because generally you all do a great job.

    @Oh plzzz:

    Your thought is very funny! I could not help but laugh. But I understand the point you are stressing. People with the attitude of pride do not believe that they too, can make hurrible mistakes, so they are ashamed when their wrongs are exposed.
