The family members of a man who was reportedly killed in an vehicular accident in the Sylvania on Wednesday night say they are seeking answers from the authorities as to exactly what happened.

Family members of Clifton Abraham from Grand Fond, told DNO on Friday morning that since the the incident occurred, they have not heard from the police or anyone in authority on the matter.

They say they are in the dark as to what actually cut short the life of their love one since there are so many rumors going around.

According to a family member, Abraham, who suffers some “mental challenges,” began “acting up” on Tuesday morning and attempts were made to contact the police or the nurse in the area to have some medication administered.

By Wednesday morning the police, who normally pick him up in the mornings to take him for medication, had not not arrive.

“So I heard him saying on Wednesday morning that he is going, he is going,” the relative stated.

On Wednesday at about 8:30 pm, the relative said, a niece came at her home with news that Abraham was in an accident in Sylvania.

Shocked, the relative began seeking information as to how Abraham found his way to that area, which is a bit far away from Grand Fond.

They got to know that Abraham had actually died on Thursday morning when one of his sisters was called to identify the body at the morgue in Roseau.

Since then, the relative said, there has been no word from anyone in authority about the matter.

“Nobody can tell us what happened,” the relative lamented. “All we know is that a transport hit him and the police are saying nothing, not a word, nothing.”

The relative is now appealing to the police to investigate the matter.

“I want them to come and investigate,” she said. “I want to know how comes the guy get blows like that and nobody, not one police, telling us anything.”

The relatives say they will be visiting the Police Headquarters on Friday morning in their quest for answers.

Dominica News Online is seeking information from the police in this matter and will publish an update as soon as it is available.

It is a sad thing to lost a family member much less for that way. But am trying to understand the relatives. The police cannot give exact details of the accident as they were not on the scene and has to rely on eye witnesses and that will be after everyone that was present gives a statement. It is only after that they will be told wat happens. Stop bashing public officers Dominicans esp policemen and nurses

The police did not show up to bring him to get his medication. He did not as much as telephoned. The nurse also did not show-up or telephone. Not a word to the family.
This sounds fishy. You authorities are not serious-minded people who perform your job satisfactorily.
It appears to me that the police are in dire need of re-training on how to handle such a situation. The family should not have to go to the police station to seek information. Under the circumstances, it increases their anxiety and sorrow of losing their loved one.
The police are usually the first to inform the family of an accident and accidental death. As I know it, once the person is identified, they will visit the home to inform them of the sad news.

Sorry to hear of your loved one passing. God be with you during your grief.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!

In general you don’t have professional police in DA. There are a very few exceptions. You just have people with a job. Crime is rampant.

Heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased. Proving mental health services for individuals with mental health issues has always been challenging in Dominica.

Unfortunately, judging from the most recent record of the authorities regarding these matters, their response and level of professionalism is “Wanting.”

Family members should not have to travel to “Police Headquarters” to seek answers. Police officers should be providing the family with updates about their ongoing investigation, assuming that there is one.

      Good luck on that.

This is rather unfortunate. Then, the police get offended when they are criticized. This is the death of a young man who had family and friends who loved him. It goes without saying that they will want answers. If answers are not yet available and an investigation is underway, the least they can do is be civil to the family and give assurances that the are doing all they can. I didn’t know this man or his family but I know what it is to lose a loved one. I wish them God’s favour and grace in this difficult time.
