Condolences to the family on the loss of their loved one. Once again, I see no guard rails in sight. It’s clear that this vehicle ran off the road again. Guard rails help to keep vehicle upright during accidents and the survivability rate is much greater when a vehicle remains upright versus a roll-over.
All stake holders need to start and reemphasize public service campaigns about road safety on the island. We cannot ignore vehicle maintenance either and the exorbitant cost of tires and other spare parts. I have also lamented that we need to change the process that determines whether or not a vehicle is safe to be on the road. The tires that were on the vehicle I rented in Dominica the last time I was home, would not pass muster anywhere, except in Dominica. Instead of using tear gas on innocent protestors, this is where the government should focus their efforts.

Are you suggesting that the police should go on and put guardrails along the roads in DA, or are you also suggesting that the drivers on island should protest by refusing to drive their vehicles on the roads until the guardrails are put in place? One will not take more than an hour from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ so why the rush? Drivers should exercise more caution on our roads. We are having too many accidents on our roads

There was a passenger right she survived if she doesn’t have some sort of memory loss she could shed the light on how the car ended up in that state

lair the highest speed limit in USA is 85 MPH…
    Texas State Highway 130 (Derp).

You see no name; I regret I took back my insult now that I read back what I found after I research it. Not: that toll part of Highway 130 might be owned and operated by private people, toll means you pay a fee to drive that 41 miles.

It said on Highway 130 the speed highest is 80 MPH until you enter that strip of 41 miles, where you pay the private owners to drive on it, but on regular Highway’s and Freeway’s highest posted speed limit is 80 MPH!

“The 41-mile (66 km) section of the toll road between SH 45 and I-10 has a posted speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h), the highest posted speed limit in the United States . ”

And “derp” whoever you are Dominica  have highway in name only; but in reality there are few places where people can drive comfortable at 60 MPH.

It is only going to get worse! As we get more vehicles on the road, younger less experienced drivers, and the ones who think they are invincible, the frequency of accidents will increase, and the severity of accidents will also increase. Law enforcement needs to take a big step forward, and start enforcing all traffic laws, and they have to start with themselves. Ever seen a police vehicle with the occupants wearing seat belts? Yet that law is on the books in this country.

We need to take a serious step in road safety and speeding regulations. This types of situations are becoming a norm. Praying for the family and friends of the victim. These types of situation isn’t okay for anybody.

I think it`s time that our Police Department and Judicial System send a strong message to the public by arresting this tree. It has been involved in numerous roadside fatalities and it is still FREE. How can this be? A TREE should not be above the law!

How many people must die in vehicular accidents before we realize that there isn’t a one-dimensional solution to this problem? It is time to think seriously about the various risks that (i) exist to drivers, or (ii) are posed by drivers and seek to resolve them. A serious evaluation of the controls in place to determine what is required before someone is permitted to drive, what is permitted while someone is driving, and what penalties are applied for violation of the rules is timely.

Someone refereed to accident death near to the holidays!

Death can come to anyone of us at anytime: Nevertheless, I believe that all these death by accident in Dominica can be avoided  if people driving would learn to take time and drive in a civilize manner. You know there is nothing special about driving; it is not a science that few people master.

Anybody can; it’s simply something learn, and used for transporting one’s self  if they can afford a motor vehicle. We do not have the type of roads in Dominica to accommodate speeding, the average car sold in Dominica top speed is approximately 140 miles per hour, maximum could be 150; if it is an eight cylinder car.

Some of us who can afford an expensive car, a sport can only buy something which goes as fast as 220 miles per hour, I have one of those, the fastest I ever drove is 130; and ( I boy saw)  death!

The highest speed limit in America is 80 MPH!

Let me show you who is the liar, there are two place in America they allow 80 Miles per hour, one place  is on Interstate (I-40) Forty in an area, in Oklahoma; and another place on I-10 between San Antonio, and El Passo Texas.

Anybody who want to find out which of us is the liar, they can do a national research on highest speed limit within the continental United States.

……..I  have driven all across America, into Mexico, and all over Canada, and the only place in North America, which comprise of Mexico, America, and Canada, I’ve never seen a speed limit which allow 85 miles per hour!

And if you say Texas I can tell you with confidence you are a damn liar. You may have seen a marker on the highway saying 85, that is not a a speed limit posting. You see them all over the place some markers with higher numbers okay, they are not posted speed limits!

        …………..

Okay I take back my insult, you are correct, but what is the difference in five miles, does that make me a liar?

You are still an idiot for calling me a liar, for no one person knows everything, you could have informed me in a civilize way! Hence I would have checked it out as I have done, it is not a one man know, and nobody else knows it is public information!

Texas State Highway 130 – Wikipedia
        en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_State_Highway_130
The highway is noted for having a speed limit of at least 80 mph (130 km/h) along its tolled section. The 41-mile (66 km) section of the toll road between SH 45 and I-10 has a posted speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h), the highest posted speed limit in the United States .

@ Francisco Man you talking crap 130 mph is nothing in todays high power car. Having said that a man of your age any speed up to 50mph is fast for you ; Just having a laugh its Christmas time.

Guy,  ever driven a car that exhilarate  from zero “0” to sixty (60) MPH in less than five seconds? Well I have, okay!  And dumb as I am, driving a supper sports car which I can drive as an ordinary everyday, however, when I want to utilize it as a car for racing, I can do it.

So, run your mouth off that’s okay; I have seen someone in Texas drove one of the same as I have; running from the police, when it disintegrated from under him. Only God knows why that man is still alive. It is okay for people to talk. There are very few cars on the road in Europe And America going 220 MPH, not unless you are driving a Bugatti!

Top speed, Bugatti has limited the Chiron to 261 mph as a safety measure for road-travel. That’s three mph more than the Veyron SS, but the Chiron will do more for its record-setting attempt.

        Higher speed: tires dissolves!

        Bugatti price over US$1,000,000.00.

Let me finish this; if you wish to be a fool and drive over a 130 miles per hour, I advise you to do it in  any place in Dominica, because the only place in the world I lived, and did not see a speed limit is in Germany where there are no speed limit on the auto-ban which is their Freeway.

You claim to live in England, but I once lived there also, and people do not drive at hundred miles per hour either; I drove on the M1 and most Highway’s in England, and never saw people driving at break neck speed.

For your information the sports cars in Europe such as the Lamborghini, and Farri, they all highest speed are below two hundred per hour, Mercedes Benz the same thing!

Lie as much as you wish I am not impressed the fastest car sold today outside cars built for track racing as far as I know is a Bugatti!  You can’t buy: they over a million dollars.

Accidents will happen hence we have emergency services, however these services goes to sleep without a contingency plan in place especially at the peak time of the week and year by extension. We have to do better than 2 hours to arrive on the scene of an accident that is less than half hour away if are to be compliant for the next level of development. The young man could have stood a fighting chance if the response time was swift. The public service needs an overhaul in this country.

Wow! Not infront of the holidays. I know accidents happens and most times it just can not be avoided . I live in a country that have very large roads and millions of vehicles. I’m also a driver and last night i was telling my friend after i went to pick her up what i saw a driver did ,most times people look for it . I can unerstand if you colided with some can of animals ,but if you still driving at a low rate of speed ,yes you will get bumps and bruises but to to the extence of the tpye of injuries where your life had been taken. Even it your speedometer has a 120 that hundred is for the race track not the streets . Sit belts and low rate of speed save lives.

although these accident may be as a result of fat driving , intoxication or poorly constructed roads we cant per say that these are the main causes , due to convergent plate movement the have been recorded several earth tremors for this month , there are smaller sized tremors which are not being recorded nor felt.
this un-felt tremors play a major role in these accident . our geologist must do some investigating .

We have been having so many accidents these days. It’s time for us to address this. As a driver myself, I fear for my life when I am on the road because our country does not seem to be governed by laws. No street lights, no one to enforce our laws. People drive recklessly and the police doesn’t not seem to care about many things. Police give tickets to people when they want and to who they want. Look at the newly renovated road leading to the hospital. People drive like they are in NASCAR and nothing is being done about it.

    • As if
      December 17, 2018

YES!!! I agree with everything you said.

Drivers turn without giving any indication. You’re driving about to pass a vehicle on the side of the road which has a left signal flashing when they suddenly move off, then they want to curse you on all your generation asking you if YOU cannot drive. Vehicles park taking the whole side walk so the pedestrian has to walk on the street.

Speaking about hospital road, I have seen vehicles full Nascar mode in the middle of the street, there is a pedestrian crossing which usually gets ignored.

When it comes to traffic laws and speeding, let’s be honest, the police are slack

NO it’s not drivers. It’s the POLICE. The POLICE need to enforce laws. They don’t so reckless drivers can do what they want without fear of the law. Reckless driving is becoming the norm in Dominica and the police will see someone speeding and not even blink and eye. If the police did their jobs and people actually got charged, we wouldn’t have all these accidents.

All that speeding, unnecessary speeding and reckless driving must stop. Drivers must be more careful on the road, especially our young drivers. There are far too much accidents in a small country like Dominica. This is not only the authorities to do something but for all drivers to drive carefully. Speed kills, our roads have so many curves, they are not for speeding.
