Father of dead young man in state of ‘shock’

Amassa died tragically yesterday

Flemming Bachelor, the father of deceased Amassa Bachelor of Salibury who perished yesterday afternoon in the sea near the community, describes his current state as one of “shock”.

“I was in my garden doing a little work, when I got the news and I was shocked, I just ran to the scene as soon as possible. When I got there, the ambulance was already leaving,” Bachelor said.

Fourteen-year-old Amassa Bachelor was diving into the sea from a cliff with friends at a popular spot for young boys in Salisbury when he died.

The father added, “I heard they were jumping into the water from off of a high ridge, it’s a place where all the children go to. They said that he knocked another kid and he must have fallen unconscious and gone down below the water and by the time they dove to get him, he had already drowned. That’s what they told me.”

He affirmed that, after this tragedy, he finds it hard to compose himself and even the outpouring of support from the villagers is a steady reminder of what has befallen him.

“It was pretty shocking and it really hurts right now, to be honest, I couldn’t even really keep myself.  But I know that I have to cope and try to bear it but I still couldn’t hold up all the while. And now that people have start coming to the house, it’s the same thing for me again. As for my family, they’re taking it pretty hard; maybe as it’s still fresh, but we know that our wounds will heal,” he said.

The deceased is the twin brother of Asaph Bachelor. He was a student of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School.

      Mahaut person

Avoid duplication of names. Find another name. I already have this one. Maybe you could use Mahaut boy, girl, woman or man or other.
It is ridiculous using a name which is already used on this Website.

Ghetto boy, I do not wish to humiliate you or insult you but if you call yourself a ghetto boy how can you understand what I stated?
It is imperative that we speak the truth and not water it down or deny it.
There are many people who need to learn a lot, the word and ways of the Lord.
There are matters you may not comprehend. Read what others state specifically godly matters, contemplate on them and ask God for His guidance.
You have misunderstood the comments. I am not going to waste my God-given precious time to explain to you or convince you because you may still not comprehend them if you do not have such a mind. I will only suggest that you pray to God for enlightenment.
As it is said, “To those who believe no explanation is necessary. To those who do not believe no explanation is possible.”
Practice the faith, study Holy Scriptures and do your utmost to live a godly life and God will bless you, grant you graces and spiritual enlightenment to comprehend what some people state on this Website.
Life is a growing and learning process. Embrace it. We must never deny ourselves the grace of God.
    May God bless you accordingly.

My heart goes out to you and your family. God is with all of you.
To you and your family, please accept my sincere sympathy. May God sustain all of you at this time.
It is not an easy matter to cope with especially the sudden death of a loved one and of a young child at that.
Take heart. You have a lot of supporters who will assist you and console you. Only time heals while memories remain.
We adults were once children. Children are adventurous and take chances. They are obviously not able to foresee dangers ahead just as adults.
After all is said and done, in the memory of your beloved son, please inform the children that they should not jump from a rock into the sea or river. It is dangerous and injuries and loss of life could ensue. They can swim in them but within safe boundaries. I do hope they listen and pay heed.
I reside in Toronto. It is summer. So far, throught the Province of Ontario, Canada in general, there have been quite a number of adults and childrens deaths caused by drowning. It is so sad.
You are not alone. As St. Paul said, “Know that others in the world are experiencing what you are undergoing.” I will add be it in a similar manner. Many are mourning the loss of their loved ones specifically through this means.
We are here for others, to support them in whatever manner, be it verbally, near or far, specifically our fellow Dominicans.
God bless you and your family. Keep up the faith, godly spirit and hope in God. Your son is at peace and rest in the arms of Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ.

Thats pretty sad! I don’t know the young man or his family, but this just hurts to read of the pain this has caused. (tears can’t keep falling) it feels like this is a close friend or family member of mine. I pray to God that you find the strength in him. He’s power is touching and everlasting. Sympathy brings memories, but its the best that humans can do in times like these. You’re in pain, you can’t tell how it feels, but we know because we’ve been through it. Hold on and pray. God is with you and your family.

      @ ACN

I am deeply saddened at the loss of a young life in such a manner. It could have been avoided if young people “do not dive”. There are dangers in diving which I need not elaborate on.
When I was a teenager, I recall that a teenager dived into a river, hit his head and eventually died.
We must keep reminding parents and children of the dangers of diving. There may be rocks and stones underneath the water which will injure and kill them.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the young child’s family.
You have made a good point. Some years ago I contemplated that Christians gave their children some strange names, be they Africans or other. I did inform a few people about it. They hear those names, they love them and give them to their children without knowing the meaning of those names or where they originated from.
Are you aware that they could place a curse on their children, if not their entire household? Some people never give this a thought.
I am a Christian Catholic. I do not know what your religious affiliation is. In those days our parents gave us Christian names. Those names are that of those who lived pious lives, saintly people whom we call as our Patron Saints in Heaven. Would it be that those Saints protect us? I do think so and more so if we pray to them for their intercession before the Throne of Grace, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Some people may not believe this and others will denounce it.
I will simply inform them, do not underestimate our God and those who have served Him in this life to death, some through persecution of every sort, keeping in mind, the Passion, Death, Crucifixion and The Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christians should always give their children Christian names, at least one name, be it the middle name should be a Christian name. Parents must also teach their children accordingly. I have considered this is why some children are not protected. If they do not practice the faith and are advised by their family, also to pray to God for protection, they are denied God’s protection.
It is stated that God does not talk to His enemies. :). I love that one.
This includes those who do not worship Him, pray to Him, for themselves and for others and not performing acts of love and mercy in Jesus’ Name. How much do we deny ourselves God’s blessing, graces and protection.
We cannot depend on the government and police to protect us. We must look to ourselves, our lifestyle and manner of thinking and ask ourselves who really and truly protects us.
Keep in mind God inspires and enlightens.
      God bless you!

This is indeed a tragic occurrence, but what is the point of such overzealous patriotism as claiming that Dominica is the best nation on Earth, particularly right after a boy dies? It is one thing to love your country. It is quite another to take it further than necessary. Let us remember the lost person and not let other things get in the way of that.

        @ Humanist

What are you comments all about? What sense does do they make? A young child dies in an accident. This is what we should contemplate on and not patriotism. Where does patriotism come in, in this article? Offer your sympathy to the family. Are you without sympathy, for a so-called humanist? Keep in mind that God created “Human beings.” If you call yourself a humanist, you should very well know this.
Rocks and stones did not create you. You did not evolve from nothing to end up with nothing and to nothing. Give this a good thought.

      • Humanist
        August 4, 2011

@ Truth etc. – Had you read the comment I replied to, you would not have made such a ridiculous comment. The person I replied to–I was not commenting on the article–said “Dominica–The Best Nation on Earth.” I therefore replied that such a label was overzealous and unnecessary. If this is cause for people telling me to stfu, to say nothing of your own comment, then I am truly lost.

As for the rest of your comment–what on Earth does it have to do with my comment or the article? Leave your vendetta with my views for articles where they are relevant. I said nothing about religion or humanism or anything remotely related to those here.
